I purchased this several months ago only to open it recently, finding it had been a return. whoever returned it took out the manual or instructions, so any help would be great.

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by powerful bathroom fan installation actually is pretty easy if you remove the vent side & the motor unit. but it is not mentioned in the manual. the fan is quite powerful & not very noisy. included light bulbs are bright enough for my 100ft bathroom. the night light is actually useful but I did not use it because I need to install an extra switch for that. I got this bath fan on sales so I am extremely satisfied with it. totally installation time is about 4 hrs for me (1st time DIY) including old unit removal, installation, and cleanup. April 28, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by It's only a bathroom fan! This is a bathroom fan after all! You shouldn't have to disassemble it to get it to fit into an existing ceiling! You shouldn't need to install 2x4's between the ceiling joists because the braces don't fit. You shouldn't need to install from inside the attic. You shouldn't need to replace the supplied metal screws because the punched holes are the wrong size. The instructions are VERY misleading and do not cover much of the installation nightmare you have to go through. I have installed ceiling fans with less trouble. What should have been a one hour job became a four hour one. No, it's not rocket science (as another reviewer observed), but it is only a bathroom fan. It shouldn't be this much of a pain! Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bath Fan Difficulties Hesitant after reading other reviews, but decided to try this install without attic access. The side of the enclosure with the venting and electrical connections (OUT) is removable. This design made installation from below possible. However, my bath ceiling is sheetrock over plaster and lathe with a thickness of about 1.25 inches. Clearance on the OUT between the electrical connection box and enclosure lip is only 0.75 inches. This required manual relocation (tear-off) of the electrical connection box. Note that the vent connection for this model is 4 inches NOT 6 inches making the unit a bit louder than advertised on the packaging. Conclusion: unless you are super handy or have an entire weekend to blow, choose another model. October 22, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Avoid...! 5 hours of misery: finding the "instructions" are completely wrong (dimensions listed are all wrong), having to take the unit apart to fit it into an existing ceiling, seeing that the braces are too short to fit between the joists (despite the "instructions" stating otherwise), and then when finally hanging and "working" the fan assembly shears apart (metal into plastic always works so well), I will be returning to HD this weekend and getting the NuTone Ultra Silent. This is now the second time Hampton Bay products have let me down (I have a garbage ceiling fan too). There will not be a third time. January 3, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very quiet! I had a pro install this, so I don't know if there were any difficulties there. This fan is super-quiet and works very well. This bath is at the intersection of two bedrooms, so there is a smoke detector there. With my old fan, if the bather opened the door too soon after the shower, the smoke detector would go off. I have not had this problem with this model and the times I have used the guest bath, it has kept the mirror steam-free. I had a timer installed with it so I would not have problems with it being left on. I now want this timer on the fan in my other bath! Very easy to do. January 20, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet, good light Terrible installation instructions. It doesn't tell you to separate the casing to install it in existing bathroom. January 6, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Installation nightmare!! They should state in instructions, how to take off side plate. Worst design on installation i have ever seen!! There is no need for flanges, not to mention that they say it should be under sheetrock. And why would they put the electric box so close to the bottom of the unit. Other fans , simple installation, cut a hole with two sliding brackets that are attached to fan, 8 screws and its done. Once tested by my dad, who i installed it for, he was happy withthe exhausting power of the unit. February 12, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Purchase Ever Installing this Exhaust fan was a complete nightmare. Do not use the brackets. The brackets are junk. Worst design I have ever seen. They are impossible to install. I ended up having to rip out a hole in the ceiling that was 24" square to install the brackets. Even then the brackets were impossible to install. I ended up throwing the brackets away. Your best bet would be to purchase an 8ft 2x8 and build a 10.5 x 22” inch rectangle like I did. Then you can easily mount the fan using the four holes at the bottom. If you don't want to choose this option then take it back to home depot and thank me later. I spent 12 hours installing this fan. Now I have to fix the huge hole with dry wall which will be another 1-3 hours work ahead of me. I could not recommend this exhaust fan to my worst enemy. October 6, 2013
