While I have not verified for myself, page 10 of the instruction manual indicates that you can set manual override (disable motion) by flipping the wall switch from Off to On and then Off to On again all within 3 seconds. Do the same to re-enable motion sensing. Good luck.

Answer:
My light doesn't have this problem. I think that the light itself is illuminating the daylight sensor. The light sensor has a long time delay (maybe 5 to 10 minutes. When the light is illuminated, the unit thinks it is daytime and after the time delay, shuts the light off. Make sure that the bulb light is not reflected into the light sensor. Is it by any chance mounted on a white wall?

Then again the manufacture may call for a different light bulb than what I put in there, so it's my fault (nnah). I'll try a different bulbs before returning it. In the mean time I placed a strip of electrical tape that doesn't cover the sensor, but shads it from the direct reflection. Read Less

You might want to try using a flood light (if you haven't already) that focuses the direction of the light better and may prevent the sensor from receiving too much ambient light from a regular bulb. I did, and seems to work so far, but I have only owned this light for 24 hours so far.

Another alternative would be to simply cover the sensor with some electrical tape, but this would eliminate the dusk to dawn feature entirely and you would only be relying on motion (which would trigger the light even during the middle of the day). A trade off I guess if you have exhausted all other options and can't return the light. Read Less

I'd like to install exterior lighting in my backyard. Ideally, a motion sensor light that also offers an outlet. I only see one exterior light with outlet being offered on this site, but unfortunately it is not a motion sensor light. Can you use a socket with outlet on this light, or have a suggestion? I appreciate any help, thank you.

Answer:
I think I know what you are asking, but I would not recommend installing a light socket receptacle outdoors, even indoors is questionable. I know it is pricey, but I would suggest that you have an electrician install a weatherproof receptacle box for you in a convenient location on the outside wall of your house.

Customer Reviews

Rated 2.8 out of 5 by 96 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Stay away from this light Bought and installed on July 2nd. Came home August 17th and no light. Tried two new bulbs before determining the fixture was dead. I bought this on a whim while at the store and hadn't seen the reviews; wouldn't have bought it. Absolute garbage. August 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Better in person than on screen, works as expected. Not high end but wasn't expecting as such. Still looks much better than in adverts on screen and operation has been perfect. I have one set up as "dawn to dusk", and another as motion sensor. I put in 60 watt led soft white bulbs - no problems. The lights downward focus is perfect and keeps direct light shine out of my neighbors windows. I would purchase these again. August 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Gone through three lights now I am so disappointed with this light! We like the design but disappointed because they do not last. We are on our 4th light now and it hasn't even been a year. And unsure how to contact Hampton Bay to get replacements August 13, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Garbage I bought three of these. Of the two I've already mounted one lasted about a month and the other less than a year. They are just fried. Won't turn on at all. The last one I mounted about a month ago never did work right. About half the time it wouldn't turn on (it's set for motion detection) even when I walked right up to it. I hate to say it, but these things look nice and are complete garbage. I'm going to try to return the two that won't work and see how much grief HD gives me. Ugh. July 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Classic Lights We loved the look of these lights and mounted them on my new garage when I built it. We also installed five of them on the street side of the commercial building we own after residing it. My son liked them so much, he bought them for his new house to put on his garage. They have a really nice classic look for a garage or similar style building. We have had no problems with the dusk to dawn function and they look really good at night with a lower wattage LED bulb. They give off a cool triangular downcast light pattern and the exterior finish on the light is nice looking. They also have a motion sensor, but I have not used that function on them. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outdoor Wall Lantern Lights Up I live on the lake and I love this outdoor wall lantern. I love it so much that we've swapped out all of the outside lights on the deck (4 of them). The lantern is cheap (under $50) but it over delivers - it looks great and I love the motion detector feature! This lantern is the newest on our deck addition so pardon the deck - it's not finished - always another project! January 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Defective after 2 months These lights are very nice looking. However, 2 out of the 3 that we installed have already stopped working after only 2 months. July 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install I am a female, that does not electricity and have never put up an outside light. I am more of a dyi I found the installation fairly easy, most time was done second guessing myself and being overly cautious with electricity. I love the look of it. I put a energy efficient bulb that has the yellow cover over it and really love that look. It comes on when it should and turns of when it should. I set it like I wanted and it is doing what I wanted it to do. We have had some good winds and rain with it and still is doing great. I read the other reviews and was hesitant about buying this. I am so glad that I went ahead and bought this. September 15, 2015
