It sounds like your problem is too much hose. This product does not handle the weight of the hose that it does in length. This cause the cylinder to become separated. You can pull the hose back off and slide the cylinder back into place but odds are you will have the same problem when you get back to that amount of hose reeled up. You can pull the hose back off and slide the cylinder back into place but odds are you will have the same problem when you get back to that amount of hose reeled up. From other reviews it sounds like the teeth that turn the gears break off easy so overtime this may become impossible to fix. Ultimately if you use less hose(maybe half of the rated length capacity) it might hold up under that strain. Read Less

Sorry, but I have never had this problem. If it continues I am sure Home Depot will replace it with another one.

Answer:
Call SunCast for a new assembly. They ship it free of charge. It's design will be slightly different. It fits seamlessly into the frame of the product.
This is not sturdy enough to hold a 200ft hose.

Answer:
Yes. The need to call the Maker. SunCast right? They will ship you a new internal assembly free of charge.
The new assembly design is not much better than the existing one.
Also, I don't recommend using a 200ft hose. The weight of it will bend the 'rotisserie'.
Hope this helps.

Answer:
Thank you for your question, Noodles. Because the gears that operate the hose guide track are inside the right panel, the crank handle for the Suncast hose reel model SMW205 cannot be switched from the right side to the left. None of the SmartTrak hose reels can be converted right cranking to left for this reason. We appreciate your interest in Suncast products.

Answer:
Hi Albert, you do not need waer to rewind the hose. You use the manual winding handle on the side of the unit. Just remember to drain hose and store inside in bad weather.

Customer Reviews

Rated 2.7 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Huge Disappointment I purchased two of these for my mother two years ago and there work perfectly with no issues so when I moved into my new house this year I purchased two for my house as well and have had nothing but headaches since. I live in the same town as my mother, so the temperature and sun exposure is identical, however, this new set had to be swapped twice and finally outright returned due to the same failure. Over time, the sidewalls spread which causes the winder to disengage. I only had 100 feet of hose on each so it was not that they were overloaded as they advertise over twice that. I am very disappointed as they look outstanding, however, performance is lacking terribly. August 20, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not up to previous quality design standards Brand new and the first time we turned on the water, the hose connector located on the outside of the box (water inlet) blew off (the part with the O-rings on it). Reinstalled twice (ensuring the plastic clip was engaged properly) with the same outcome. It's retained with a flexible plastic clip that just isn't up to the task of holding water pressure. Earlier suncast designs used screws but this plastic clip design is just plain cheap/ineffective. I did like the dual O-ring but it's worthless unless the inlet stays in place. Returning the unit today and buying a different unit as the inlet design is poor. July 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice looking and large enough to hold quite a length of hose. Just a very modest assembly was necessary. i.e. hooking up your garden hose to the reel inlet. It is very convenient to have a handle that you can fold in after you have reeled in the hose---saves lots of bruises. July 21, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor reel bearing captivation I put 200 feet of industrial hose on my 225 Foot real. After only one year the splined end of the shaft fell out of its bearing because the housing spread apart. There is no captivating clip on the splined and it is free sliding as it should be the housing is way too flimsy in the summer heat. July 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth the price! My husband and I have tried many hose control products in the past but are most pleased with this one. The reel keeps the hose from getting tangled or kinked. The crank itself is easy to maneuver (our 2 year old can do it!) Very pleased with the look of this product as well. July 14, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by nice item that breaks I bought two of these. Both stopped working after several months. THE DRIVE FAILED TO TYURN THE SPOOL; HENCE, NO TAKE UP!! the level wind did continue to work July 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to set up and use. This was the perfect way to hide the hose and keep it conveniently located. Easy to set up and use. Retracting the hose is simple and quicker than manually winding it up. June 30, 2015
