Customer Questions & Answers

Does this track lights accept LED light bulbs?

We have used this 3 light white pinhole cylinder track lighting for a while. but since it was getting a bit hot for the bulb, we have tried to switch the current bulbs to LED light bulbs. Then the lights started flickering and dimmer switch started not functioning. I guess they are not compatible? Do we need to specifically purchase LED tracklighting kits in order to use the LED bulb? Please advise.
Asked by: naomi1270
Dimming has nothing to do with this fixture. The problem is likely that the LED lamps you purchased are not dimmable or the dimmer you are using is not compatible with that type of LED, or you have too many LED's plugged into that style of dimmer. Try replacing the lamps with dimmable LED lamps that will work with the dimmer you installed.

can you attach to a regular light switch? not a dimmer switch

Asked by: jpoey
I have 3 of these lights. One is attached to a dimmer & the other 2 are attached to a regular switch. Works great either way!

can i piggy back 2 tracks to operate from 1 switch?

Asked by: redmonkey
yes, but if your a newbie, its probably best to have an electrician do this for you or have one check your work. Better safe than sorry. From the switch the line goes to the first track, then from the first electrical box, run another line to the new electrical box where the next track light will be.

I purchased this kit to extend an existing Hampton Bay track lighting fixture in my kitchen and add additional lights. It was incredibly simple to install this track as an extension. One note: I made the slight mistake of purchasing a separate extender piece. I didn't need to buy a separate straight extender because this track lighting kit came with one in a matching black color.

Getting the retainer ring to sit properly over the light bulbs was VERY difficult and frustrating. Poor design. And I found that the light fixtures only work at some places along the track - not everywhere. Still, once installed this track light looks are works fine. I bought it because it was inexpensive and had the look I wanted - so I guess I got what I paid for,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Low price, correctable flaws make this a very good value In general this kit is of good quality and an excellent value, but it has two correctable flaws. First, discard the free bulbs that come with it, which produce uneven and dim lighting, and replace them with equivalent brand-name bulbs with a glass cover. The glass cover is needed for UV protection. Second, the U-clip on the wire inside the fixture is in the wrong position and prevents bulbs from fitting properly. Use two pliers or pliers and a screwdriver to loosen the clip and slide it up to the base of the socket, or remove the clip altogether.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No problems. I own 3 sets of these lights. I've also installed 6 tracks total and changed bulbs a few times. There are no issues installing if you do it right. After connecting the bulb to the socket, pull the sheathed wire out of the housing from the back side of the housing. DO NOT simply shove the bulb and socket into the housing. It only takes about 5 minutes to get all three lamps into their sockets, and then into the housing. The only con is that the included bulbs are inferior (unsurprisingly, kind of like the cheap batteries you'll get with a TV remote). 1/3 bulbs were dim, 1/3 didn't light, 1/3 worked fine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice track light Good product and good price. This is a kit, not a plug-in lamp, so you have to decide how to wire it to a switch and power source somewhere. The bulbs were a bit tricky to install. The helpful sales associate assured me that this could be mounted on a flat board ceiling without a recessed junction box. He was right, but it's not easy to get the three wire nuts underneath the cover when there's no box behind it. I cleverly summoned an electrician to get this job done, including wiring the track to the wall switch and power source. It took two hours, but was worth it. It would have taken me two weeks, including time for mindless screaming and periods of sedation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, not perfect In addition to our other track heads, we needed two heads to light paintings on the wall. As our H-track is mounted on top (not beneath) a beam, we needed a head that could rotate beyond the horizontal 180 degree limit allowed by most all other track heads, and point downward. This unit, with its U-bracket, works perfectly. It is one of the very few track heads that will permit this function. Note that there is a crimped metal clip on the shielded wire inside the head that must be removed if you intend to install the retaining ring into the groove at the top of the bulb housing. Otherwise the bulb will protrude beyond the end of the fixture. An easy fix (and one that the manufacturer should have done). As noted by others, the three bulbs I received all varied as to their focus and intensity. Also, you do not need a re-lamping tool. After removing the retaining ring, the power wire can be easily pushed into the housing, and this shoves the socket (and bulb) forward, allowing simple bulb replacement.
