Customer Questions & Answers

I do not want the stake type mount. I would want to mount the solar lights on top of a concrete wall using 1/2 or 3/4 ton threaded pipe. Can this be.

Asked by: Jerry
The pipe (stem) that comes with the product is threaded on the top end, where it attaches to the body, but not threaded on the bottom end where it attaches to the stake. So depending on how much effort you want to put into it, you can do different things.

Is the post metal or plastic?

I understand the stake pushes into the ground and is plastic. Does the post go into the ground stake? Is it metal or plastic?
Asked by: Greg
Post is metal. I slide it over a piece of 1/4 in rebar instead of the plastic stake.

How many batteries per light

I have some old Solar LED path lights that each use two Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries that light up every night and stay lit for at least 6 hrs. I bought some newer ones that only have one Lithium ion type battery that often don't charge enough to last more than an hour at best and they are in the same location as the older Ni-MeH solar lights. If only one battery per light, will the higher power 400mWh battery in these units make a big improvement?

The issue with these lights is the durability of the collector (the covering becomes obscured with prolonged sun exposure), and the metal material that 'pits', thus requiring sanding and painting for a longer life. I have had to buy additional collector covers, and now additional lights due to pitting (cannot be sanded out) and corrosion of the light housing. I would have selected another product, but I started with 25 of these around my home, so now must get replacement tops and housings on line because the store no longer carries this particular type (color/style).

Provide enough light (usually) to light up the ground/path. But after a cloudy day, they provide almost no light at night. So they're useless on rainy days, or in generally cloudy regions. Charge from the prior day is not enough to sustain it through even 1 cloudy day.

Now that winter has set in there are very few sunny days. As expected the lights are not as bright and begin to dim after an hour or two. Should be fine as the days get longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable and weather resistant I have been making "solar powered" lighthouses for many years and this garden light has worked best for me as the top section of the lighthouse. Please check my photo attached. Use your imagination, garden lights don't always have to go in the garden.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ~8 years and going strong! I brought a dozen of these lights circa 2006. Now, 8 years later, they are all still working and working well. I replace the batteries every few years (I recommend Paradise solar batteries) and did so again just now (it is now March 2014) and to my delight these lights are still shining bright after sunny days. I did have to clean up the corrosion in the contacts for the batteries and in some cases I have had to jiggle the batteries to get the bulb to come on, but years of experience have made that chore easier each time. And it is a delight to see my solar lights outshine my neighbor's new dainty ones. These 3-tier lights are large, and to my eyes there is a pleasing Japanese feel to them. They are especially attractive on moonlit nights. Cons: With time, the black housing does gather calcium deposit. The stakes need to be adjusted from time to time so the lights stand straight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality lights!! These solar lights are probably the best built lights I have tried so far. They are made of stamped aluminum instead of plastic. The only part that is plastic is the stake and the frosted lens (which by the way creates a nice diffused look when the lights are on. I like the light pattern, and at full charge, the lights are pretty bright for being solar. We'll see how long they hold up in Massachusetts during the winter though. Less sun around here in the winter and the battery is a relatively small 300mAH lithium 4/5th AA, it is 3.2v though. That's the only con. The odd sized AA battery. I wish I could put a regular rechargeable AA 1.5v I have but no, they take special batteries and a regular sized AA is too big...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST LIGHTS EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! I purchased two (6-pack) of these lights in May 2008. And the lights are still bright and beautiful around my house. "I'm still using the original batteries from May 2008". The lights are facing the south and south west so they receive a full daily charge. During the peak of the summer the lights have remain on throughout the night. Hampton Bay did a great job with this lights. Zero maintenance. I LOVE THEM...
