Customer Reviews

30x34.5x24 in. Hampton Sink Base Cabinet in Natural Hickory is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hit or Miss quality, I might consider another brand if I were to do this project again. Short Version- expect some surprises, and be prepared. I know what I'm doing with cabinets, and there were a I few moments when I almost gave up and took these back to Home Depot. Longer- I've been building and remodeling most of my life. I worked in a cabinet shop not long ago, building (mostly) kitchen cabinets. I've got some pretty fancy tools, and a pretty big bag of tricks. I've installed a cabinet or two, and never once have I started out in a room that was square, or plumb, or level. I'm prepared to trim, scribe, and otherwise improvise to make cabinets look good in a given room, and this was the first time I've had to fight the cabinets harder than the room. Some of the things I encountered- Face-frame on one cabinet not installed fully- the cabinet depth (front to back, including the face-frame) was greater at one corner than the other three, by ~1/8". Face-frame is hot-glued to cabinet box, so no fix short of cutting the face-frame off and starting fresh. Result is that the cabinet cannot be installed with the front surface co-planar to the adjacent cabinet. Face-frame on another cabinet was built with wood that had been rough planed (or jointed) and instead of cutting off the planer snipe at the end of the board, the factory just included the sniped end of the board. Result is a ~1/16" gap where one cabinet joins another. This same cabinet had a significant bow in the long side of the face-frame, which caused a ~1/16" gap where it joined the adjacent cabinet. I spent an hour or two fighting with this cabinet to achieve a tolerable fit with the cabinets around it, and I'm still not pleased. Two other complaints- first, and this one is probably only an issue with the hickory cabinets- huge, dark knots all over the doors and drawer fronts, mostly right at eye-level, and some of them right at a glueline where two boards have been edge-joined, which is visually unpleasant. Many of these knots have been (partially) filled with copious quantities of dark-gray putty, which seems to have been applied with a hose, and then troweled off with an excavator bucket. Seriously, it's everywhere, smeared all over the cabinet. There are a lot more knots than the photos suggest. Very rustic. Second, the hinges are dreadful, which I expect given the price point, but the installation of the hinges is laughably bad. Fully 75% of the hinge screws were driven diagonally into the wood, many times I found broken screws under a hinge with a stripped out screw driven at an angle right next to the broken one. My take-away on this line of cabinets- Not entirely terrible, but certainly not good. Very difficult to do a nice job of installation, with the cabinets I received anyway. The quality of the cabinets was inconsistent within the nine that I bought, five of which were special order, with the remaining four in stock at my HD. I purposely used as many in-stock cabinets as I could, in case one or more needed to be returned and exchanged. One of the drawer base cabinets was so bad cosmetically that I did exchange it ,and my salesman at HD just shook his head and shrugged when he saw it. I would venture that the quality of my cabinets is representative of this brand/line based on reviews on this site and my experience. Would I buy them again? Possibly, but I'd inspect them much more carefully before starting to install them. My advice. If you're looking for a fast and dirty set of boxes, and the install doesn't matter, look no further. Pretty good looking from about 10 feet away, and from 5 if you squint or need new glasses. Not bad for a rental property. If you're at all fussy, and you intend to use these cabinets every day, you may want to spend a bit more money. I look at my grand-and-a-half worth of cabinets and have to remind myself not to grind my teeth. I'm a little picky, and I'm a little cheap, and that's a tough one to pull off.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Relatively inexpensive but poor quality I ordered and installed a full set of Hampton Bay hickory kitchen cabinets. These cabinets are made mostly of chip board with a wood veneer. The only hardwood is the doors, drawer fronts and front frame. Most cabinets were not square, so installation was very difficult. Lining up and installing two adjacent cabinets that are both out of square is not easy. I would not recommend these cabinets. You would probably be better off buying higher quality cabinets made of plywood rather than chip board.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Theses are definitely not high quality cabinets but they serve the purpose for a reasonable cost.... Theses are definitely not high quality cabinets but they serve the purpose for a reasonable cost. If you can afford the time and money I'd definitely do something else but that said these are better cabinets then you see in lots of track homes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware!! Bought a whole set through special order, ended up having to take a couple back due to damage and parts broken. Cheaply made but I got them anyways because of 20% off. Bought them February last year and installed them last fall. This winter bugs started coming out of the actual face of the wood. I looked up what kind of bug it is and it's a powder post boring beetle which is considered a infestation bug. There were like 30 holes and they were coming out of the front everyday. The bugs weren't from my house because they were coming out of just one board. Of course it had to be the sink base cabinet, but I got ahold of a manager at my store and said they would replace it and contact Hampton Bay. They told me to take the cabinet out myself which will be a freaking hassle because I have to take the countertop, sink off and cut the cabinet floorboard, and it will most likely scratch the paint on the walls. So what I did was rip the face board off where the bugs were coming out of and I'm going to bring it to them and make them replace it. Rediculous.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Cabinets Ever purchase To start off with, my ordering experience was less than impressive. I had to do two separate orders (one online and one in the store) to get all the cabinets for my kitchen. The cabinets carried in-stock at the store were extremely beat up and we had to take some of them back for new ones. At the store, we had to open 4 more cabinets up before finding one that wasn't broke out, scratched, or damaged. Then the cabinets are made extremely cheap. The corner cabinets are not square and they are just cobbled together. I am not sure if there is one straight/90 degree corner in the entire set of kitchen cabinets. There is glue all over the front of the cabinets and shelfs. And we can't get all of it off. And to top it off, when we brought the broken cabinet back, they just put it on the shelf in hopes some poor sap would buy it and be in the middle of the kitchen remodel before noticing it and not want to take it back. I have remodeled 7 different kitchens in the last few years and this was the only and last time I will ever buy from Home Depot. Menards cabinets are made a lot better, they don't charge me extra shipping to order them, and they don't take 4 weeks for the order to come in. If I could give negative stars on these cabinets, I would. These cabinets are hands down the worst cabinets I have every purchased. BUYER BE WARE!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality Bought 7 cabnets. 2 had what appeared to be shipping damage. 2 had warped front board keeping drawer from closing. Appears upper board cut too long causing warp. 1 had defect in door paint. Shipping damage is one thing but shipping clearly defective units is another.
