I bought Hampton Bay cabinets some years ago from Home Depot to rennovate a kitchen in a house that I eventually sold. The cabinets were beautiful and held up perfectly. When I sold the house, the cabinets, with the sage laminate countertops, along with the emerald green (marble like) vinyl flooring, and white appliances, were the biggest selling points. The kitchen was striking in appearance. I lived in the house three years before selling it with teenage kids using the kitchen. I am currently rennovating the kitchen in my new house and am using the latest version of the Hampton Bay cabinets. I've already purchased five of the base cabinets and they've been in my house for over three months... All of them were in perfect condition when I got them (I picked them up from the store) the finish is much prettier than the photos online, and there were no defects of any kind. As for the doors hanging crooked at times, there are instructions included for adjusting them. A turn of a screw or two does it. I hauled the cabinets (using leverage) into the house and slid them into place myself (I'm a slender woman too). Locked them into place with the Home Depot Laminate Countertops (also very nice) and my Kitchen is already beautiful, even though I haven't bought or installed the top cabinets yet. I'm extremely pleased, again.
I don't know about long time use, but if someone wants lifetime cabinets (that tend to go out of style in time and will eventually need refinishing), they can pay a much higher price for them. I don't happen to have an extra $5000 to $8000 on hand to buy solid wood cabinetry that I might get tired of anyway in 10 years! You get what you pay for people! You don't have to buy particle board cabinetry... But if you can't afford more expensive cabinets, I recommend these. They're definately worth the money. In addition, you might want to drive to wherever you need to, to pick them up. Things can get tossed around a bit and even damaged in shipping... Not the store's fault. At the store you can check them out before buying. That's what I've done every time.
Finally, remember the rule of thumb... People generally will write a review for purchases when they're unhappy and have had a bad experience (and it does happen) while people who are happy prefer to tell a sales person in the store, if they take the time to say anything at all. Considering the volume of Hampton Bay cabinets that are sold each year, the few negative comments here online, really mean very little. See photo below.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tim Great Value For A Basic Laundry Room Sinkbase
This sink base is easy to install, costs much less than some of its competitors and is built sturdy enough to last for years. I am very happy that I ran across this before buying a custom cabinet - much cheaper and quality is perfect for my laundry room while not sacrificing the design element. No soft close doors - but you get a great box!

Top of the cabinet was damaged but too much of a pain to try to return. Doors are difficult to align properly - called the store for assistance - been waiting two weeks for a call back. Still nothing

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by TomPan Mostly Disassembled
There is clearly no quality control at this factory, because once out of the box this cabinet was discovered to be partly unassembled. two sides were neither glued nor stapled together. It took me basically an hour to assemble a complete cabinet out of the parts in the box. Also, these cabinets are made from the flimsiest melamine, so dont use them where they'll be subject to any kind of frequent use. We used them in a basement location and they're okay to look at if you dont need to touch them. I would not buy a Hampton cabinet again.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by CJ350 Don't buy
Bought 15 Hampton bay cabinets for my house. I would not recommend these if you want things to look nice and last. Mad from particle board they crumble apart as you screw them up to the walls or move them around on the floor. Doors all loose or crooked and some of the screw holes already stripped so the hinges cannot be tightened.

I was able to use this cabinet for its intended purpose in my project, but it was barely put together and had none of the features expected in a standard cabinet.
