If the light fixture you are replacing had a pull chain type switch and you are attempting to replace it, you would still need an electrician to install a switch on the wall to turn the fixture lights on and off. You would run into clearance issues with the mounting plate if you tried to install a rocker type power switch, plus possibly damaging the chrome finish trying to cut a square hole or a round one for a push button switch. Answer:
Hi Mikeyb,
This fixture does not have a switch. It must be hard wired to an electrical circuit with a switch.

No, danielle, not of the type that uses individual bulbs. Some of the fluorescent bulb fixtures have on/off switches on the housings and have to be either hard wired or have cords added, but may put out enough light to satisfy your lighting needs. Not knowing how and where you plan to use the light, it is difficult to recommend anything that will fit your needs. Even the fluorescent fixtures with on/off switches will require an electrician adding external wire with a plug on the end to plug into the outlet. There are some other fluorescent light strips designed for under cabinet lighting in kitchens that will surface mount and do come with cords, but they may not provide enough light to fill your needs. You should be able to go into a local Home Depot and have a store associate show you the options. Read Less

Answer:
Not very easily. An electrician might could by drilling a hole in one end and putting a grommet in the housing for the cord. The only problem will be that once you drill that chrome housing, it is yours, you cannot return it.

Answer:
yes. You could find an electrician to put on a cord and plug or just hire to put up the light if there is an existing connection

Answer:
If you use incandescent size bulbs, like some of the new LED bulbs, yes, if you can find a shade that will fit in the spaces between the bulbs. I used the globe style bulbs, without shades, and the wife was happy.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice product Bought two to make a vanity mirror for my daughter. Easy to install. Works fine. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Updating our bathroom We had an older, glass fixture which did not shed enough light. I had all the measurements with me and I'm glad I did. Got the correct length for over the mirror, and to cover the box in the wall. As long as you have a flat surface, the "Raceway Bath Light" is basically a picture that has a couple of wires sticking out the back. Drill two wall anchor holes and start the screws in. Match the wires, use either twist splice caps or what I used was the newer push in wire connectors. push the extra wire back in the wall. Hang it like a picture. New modern look, matches the chrome on the door pulls, faucets and toilet flusher. Throws an excellent amount of light. Extremely happy with the purchase. Hope this helped you out! February 23, 2015
