No, I do not think it could be done. Stem needed to attach base to fan assembly.

Judging by my recent installation, no. There is nothing that will allow this fan to be a ceiling hugger. Hi Jeff,
The down rod or stem as you call it is required. Flush mount is not possible with this fan.

Answer:
Fan control is a Remote Handheld unit - about a 5in x 2in unit. Comes with a wall mount bracket.

Answer:
No pull string.
A wall switch control should be part of the house; not the fan. The switch should be supplying power to the fan. Is a wall switch necessary? Not really, but it sure makes it easier to turn off the unit as a whole instead of finding the remote, stopping the fan and turning off the light.

Answer:
No, this fan is only UL rated for indoor use. If this is used outdoor, the plywood blades would warp and depending on your location the finish would not last.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great fan Looks great. I like the fact that you can control everything with the remote. August 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good fan but there are equally good choices for less. Took 2 1/2 hours to install, as another person mentioned, the motor body and fan assembly were not 100% aligned and in fact it rubbed when I first turned it on so had to use a lever to allow for more separation between the motor assembly and the fan assembly; still not quite straight. The top shroud that hides all the wires and the electrical box in the ceiling could have been bigger to allow for easier/neater fit what with all the wires and remote in there. I'm buying a similar fan for our house, (this one was for my daughter's house), that is half the price and has a dimmable LED vs. this fan's dimmable halogen. Very quiet fan, light works well, a 52inch fan like this is not too big for a 140 sq/ft room despite what the "guides" tell you. July 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love our new fan! We absolutely love our new fan. It is very heavy and has very good construction. We were very impressed with the quality September 20, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Did not work I must have gotten a defective fan, I assembled the fan and hooked up the transmitter as indicated by the instructions, fan nor lights worked so I called the 800 number and spoke to someone from customer support and was told to bypass the transmitter, I did what was suggested and fan still didn't work, so I removed it and took it back to local Home Depot for a refund which was an very easy transaction. I really did want the fan because it was a pretty good online sale price July 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT CEILING FAN! This ceiling fan is very attractive and we are very happy with it. Love the modern look in our family room with a vaulted ceiling. Purchased the product on sale so that was helpful. Also the light fixture gives off nice amount of light. June 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Up-to-date, contemporary, attractive, remote-controlled fan Bought 2 for my 2 bedrooms...love the remote by my bedside, strong light when it is needed, attractive and functions well. Did need an electrician to install the fan only because I can no longer get on a ladder or else with someone's help I probably could have installed it myself, but alas, there was no other adult around when I needed the fans installed. Gives a clean fresh look to any room...love the platinum blades and brushed nickel casing..excellent buy. January 21, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great fan until remote begins to fail I love this fan. I have it in my bedroom. But for the last 6 to 8 months I've had problems with the remote control. It seems to be burning out. Only the reverse button works. And I cannot find someplace that sells a replacement remote. September 1, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great looks, slight clicking This fan was incredibly easy to install. The medium setting moves a comfortable amount of air, and the high setting really creates a breeze in our master bedroom. The dimmer function on the remote was a nice bonus as I don't believe it indicates that on the specs. The light will remember your last dimmer setting and turn back on to that setting. I've got two minor gripes: 1. The metal sheet that the fans screw into was slightly bent, so when the fan spins you can see that its slightly lopsided. This doesn't cause the fan to wobble at all, it's just an eyesore if you look for it. 2. On the high setting sometimes there is a slight clicking noise. Its not rhythmic so I don't believe its the motor, but rather some metal parts that are rubbing or clicking against each other. Overall, I'd purchase another one. July 9, 2013
