Is the exhaust duct 3" or 4"dia. for Hampton Bay 50CFM #TY-50-A; SKU 986755?

Asked by: Anonymous
4" but I believe that they also make a different model of the same basic fan that has a 3", I necked down the 4 inch to a 3" to fit my existing roof vent and the fan seems to work just fine.

My current fan is just vented into the attic. The attic does have vents and an exhaust fan. Can this fan be set up the same way?

Asked by: DIYer
yes it can but i would suggest to do it right way to avoid further damages to your roofing plywood or posible even getting mushrooms growing in the attic. find someone to install the roof went, it is cheaper that then have mold in attic

50 CFM Ceiling Bath Fan is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 74.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet power I've installed several of these fans in the past year and I've always been impressed by their ease of install and functionality. These fans are extremely quiet, and work in bathrooms up to about 10'x10, so they're also efficient. I couldn't be happier, and since they only cost $25 more than a basic, noisy fan, they're totally worth the price difference. This fan combined with a timer switch makes it easy to turn on and leave on for whatever amount of time desired with an automated shutdown. Don't waste your time and end up frustrated with a cheap fan, do it right and install this one for your sanity and bank account's health.

Excellent fan and a great value, especially at the price I paid while on sale recently. And it is VERY QUIET!! I had to shut down our air conditioning before I could tell that it was actually working. Beyond that, it was a huge pain to install, even with attic access, and the instructions are worthless. As someone else mentioned, you have to remove the duct outlet/electrical box to get it through existing drywall. Trouble is, it was not easy getting it reconnected once the fan was positioned through the drywall. I had to cut the drywall opening bigger to do it. Now that it's in place, I'm extremely happy with it. But it is a terrible design from an installation standpoint.

That was an important thing for me since it replaced a "noisy" one my wife particularly disliked (a less expensive Nucor) I put in a year and a half ago. It eliminated a lot of "b.tc*in*. A Good Thing! Another good thing---no modification of the ceiling outlet size whole was necessary. It was more expensive but considering what I just told you and it met all my expectations, I am Happy!!
