Questions & Answers

How will this product work with dogs?

I am forever trying to get my dog to stay out of my garden, but my current fence is too short and see through. Will this work as a good deterrent for my dog to stay out of the garden?
Asked by: Drummz
No, too thin, only for 'over-lay' situations, that are cosmetic in nature. Now, you 'may' be able to buy HD 72in stave fencing, in 8ft panels and cut them right in 1/2 , lengthwise.

Use as carpet?

Rather than paving, I was wondering if I could use this like a carpet in a zen garden.
Asked by: Joey
..yes, can be cut fairly easily, will work till it falls apart...but, for price, you can replace once a year. so, 6ft wide cut in 2ft lengths..=..16ft x 3 = 48ft of 'walk path'. To help keep in place, 'landscape pins', work fine, but running dogs/kids would do damage .

will it rust? I want to put around pool, but don't want wire to rust
Asked by: gio
It is not weatherproof. The wood weakens before it ever rusts. Only lasts 2 or 3 years depending upon where you live

We attached this to an ugly chainlink fence, and tied in black landscape fabric between the chainlink and the reeds. It's much cheaper than doubling up the reed fencing, looks quite good, and provides excellent privacy this way. We also rolled on thompsons water sealer, which we hope will prolong the life of it. So far, so good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice! This reed fencing is fragile by nature. Be careful with it, transporting and installing. The reeds are held together by black, thin wires. The reeds can be stretched out for the fencing to be a sparcer coverage or you can hardly stretch it out for more coverage. I choose the more coverage route. I gently unrolled it and placed it on the ground. I needed to cut it shorter, as it was too tall for my ugly 5' wood fence I needed to cover. I used my regular small stem, rose cutters to cut the reeds to size. I put a 2x4 down underneath where the fencing was going just to give a little height off the wet ground (for mold and decay prevention). I used my staple gun to attach the wires to my wood fence. Very simple and did it by myself. As you're stapling, stand back and make sure your reeds are fairly straight up and down. Easy peasy. It's amazing what a tropical transformation we've had! Beautiful coverage of not stretched out. No need to double it or anything. Good luck and pick each roll out at the store by hand. I choose rolls in the back of the stack so they weren't touched too much.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy Inexpesive and looks good. Def need to double-up... Even with a third layer (for an almost fully private result) it is still a bargain compared to the cost and hassel of a true fence... albiet seemingly not a permanent solution. Happy with the result.

I used an old dresser (about 5-1/2' wide x 18" deep) which I put on a base with wheels. While it was still in the package (in a roll) I cut it in half on my 12" miter saw then trimmed the half for the roof into a 30" wide piece. I brad stapled it to the sides and front of the bar and onto the roof structure. The product is pretty good especially for the price. If it is cut into shorter pieces with wire cutters then the wire ends need to be twisted so it holds together.
