We bought this fan for our small bathroom. We thought the Hampton Bay name would mean it was a decent fan even though it was not expensive. It is not. It's not that it's a little loud when on but that it sounds like it's not powerful enough to do anything. And when you turn it off it takes a little bit of time and it sounds like a piece of junk. I guess you get what you pay for so we will be spending more money and hopefully getting a better quality fan. We won't be buying another Hampton Bay fan.

Fan/motor is louder than expected (louder than the old one that it replaced). Professional electricians installed and it shorted. They discovered the issue and corrected...which could be considered a design flaw. It's working fine now, but I will not buy this same model when my other bath fan needs replacing.

I normally dont write reviews, but figured i could offer some assistance if you made the mistake of purchasing and installing this fan. I put it in and at first it was not all that bad. Just a bath fan.. And a little loud. This lasted a day. The next day it sounded like someone was jack hammering in my house. And i noticed a burning smell. Like burning pastic. Something must have been out of balance. So. Took it out. Since most other fans require a bigger opening i was a little nervous as i just finished bath renovation. I found utiltech 2 sone 70 cfm fits in the same hole i had cut for this fan. The utiltech is also very quiet am happy with it. Home depot did give me a refund since it was defective.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Zhanna Very painful purchase
It`s so unbelievably loud - I had to unplug it so its just a ceiling decoration in my bathroom. Can`t do anything about it, got it per Home Depot associate advise, it was installed by contractors and now in order to take it back to store - we`ll have to cut brand new ceiling! And we paid a lot of money for remodeling .. I can only wish Hampton Bay or Home Depot addressed this somehow.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Matt It works good and seems well built, but is loud
I installed this in our front bathroom and it works very well compared to the old one that was in it when we bought the house. Yes, it is loud, but comparing the price of this one to one that is comparable that is more quiet (around $80 or so) I went with this one. The noise level from it doesn't really bother me and I'm going to be installing a separate timer switch for it anyway. I really don't care that it is loud, it is in a bathroom, and it isn't so loud that it disturbs the rest of the house.
