CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 3 out of 5 Should be re-engineered for CA Title 20 I buy a lamp because I like light, lots of it. It is very difficult to find a lamp that takes more than a single 150 Watt bulb; most take only 60 or 100 Watt bulbs. This lamp takes two 150 Watt (or 26 Watt CFLs) bulbs in the top part and a 60 Watt (13 Watt CFL) bulb in the reading lamp part. The box says that it takes two 100 Watt bulbs and a 60 Watt bulb, but the lamp itself says 150 Watt bulbs can be used. This being California, it comes with 3 CFL bulbs, two 26 Watt and one 13 Watt. I noticed that there really wasn't room for the two CFL bulbs in the top fixture. The ballasts were in contact with each other. Sure enough, after about 2 hours the bulbs died. (So much for the promised 8000 hour life.) I replaced them with regular incandescent bulbs and all seems well. (I left the CFL in the reading lamp.) Apparently they didn't bother to re-engineer the lamp for CFL bulbs; they should have done so. When I had the CFL bulbs in the top portion, one could see the top of the bulbs when looking at the lamp. They stuck up higher than the shade. This is not a problem with regular incandescent bulbs. The lamp went together trivially. The base is sufficiently heavy for stability. The shades are cheap plastic, but what does one expect for the inexpensive price? The style is adequate. (I hate almost all lamp styles. As near as I can tell, a total lack of taste is a requirement for lamp designers.) I have only been using this lamp for a few hours, so I can't say anything about its long term use. My search continues for an attractive floor lamp (that puts out a lot of light) for my living room, but this one will suffice in the meantime. January 27, 2011
