can I cut an 8'track by pushing the conductors out of the way before cutting the track and then pushing them back., Is the cap on the track removabl

I want to do a "L' design with a 7' tack on one leg , a 90 degree connector and a 4' track. I will be using a floating canopy. I know that Juno track can be cut. On another area, are Hampton Bay lo-vo fixture or halogen fixtures adaptable on a existing Juno track. Thank you
Asked by: Lightman
Yes you can cut the sections to the desired length, but you need to also cut the plastic slides and conductors to the proper length (which is shorter than the metal channel). If you look at the 8' section you will notice that there is a plastic runner on each side. These runners hold the copper conductors. You should also noticed that one plastic runner has two conductors and the other has one conduction. If you look carefully at the 8' section you will notice that the plastic runner is about a half inch shorter on each end than the metal channel. You will also notice that the plastic runners slide inside the metal channel. So if you attempt to plug in the 90 degree connector into one end of the 8' track, the plastic runners will slide down the metal channel and stick out the other end. In many cases the plascit runners will slide so that the 90 degree connector does not make electrical connection with the conductors inside the runners. To avoid this problem, I would do the following. 1) Push the plastic runner down the metal channel until it is flush with one end of the metal channel. Measure how much shorter the plastic runners is than the metal channel (for example 1"). Divide that measurement by half (for example 1/2"). That is the set back that you want to have at each end after you cut the metal channel and the plasctic runner. 2) Cut the metal channel to the desired length. Slide the plastic runners (with the electiral conductors ) out one end of the metal channel. Cut the plastic runner so that it is same amount shorter (e.g. 1") that it was before. Slide the plastic runner back into the metal channel and double check that you have the desired set back on the lenght of the plasctic runner with respect to the metal channel. 3) The next step is very important. To install the 90 degree connector, first pull the plactic runners several inches beyond the end of the metal channel. Position the plastic runners on each side fo the 90 degree connector and make sure that the metal tangs on the connector are positioned over the copper conductors. (Make sure that you have the 90 degree connector positioned so that the side of the connector that has two metal tangs is on the side of the track that has the plasctic runner with two conductors. If not flip over the 90 degree connector.) Once the plastic runners are properly positioned on each side of the 90 degree connector, slide the metal channel over the plastic runners to lock them in position. 4) Insert the plastic cap into the other end of the track.

Does this track work with Hampton Bay's LED track bulbs?

The light source for this says "halogen" but then in the directions it says it's compatible with any Hampton Bay EC and H series (which is also LED's)....very confusing.
Asked by: Dee
Yes, that's what I did. I replaced the halogen bulbs with LED and it works great!

DON'T order this if you expect it to be the color of other rubbed bronze items. It is more of a mahogany color --- has a very red cast to it --- rather than brown. We had to return it and order (more expensive) ones from (oops) Lowe's. I'm sure they work fine, and they came in a very strong protective tube, but the color was way off.

Gave 4 stars as this item was very difficult to cut Although the instructions say you can cut the product was not geared for this. It says to move the 3 internal copper strips that go the length of the track in order to cut. It was quite a struggle to move the copper strips in the slots. I would not recommend this if you need to shorten it.

I got this and a bunch of legit curtain rods. What I needed was an 8' curtain rod that looked just like that... so I ordered it. Find out after I ordered a track for track lighting. I sent it back for credit. Would be nice if it didn't show up when you do a search for curtain rods.
