I can't get a plug into the outlet. I read the answer to this same question and just tried to push the plug in for about 5 minutes with force. Nothing. At this point the outlets seem useless which is upsetting. Any suggestions are welcome.
Asked by: Smith
Hello, We apologize for the frustration. To use the outlet, push the plug prongs to the left of the outlet holes. As you are pushing the plug in, slide to the right. This plug does have child safety piece inside.

What is a Photoeye?

Asked by: Vance
The photo eye ( or photocell) detects light or dark. It tells the light work at night or not work during the day.

For the price, this post does everything it should do (with one slight modification). Other reviewers were complaining about the white tabs in the way of the outlet. Upon testing the outlet before installing it on the pole, I found these made it almost impossible to plug a 3 prong (grounded) plug in. The outlet can be taken apart fairly easily, and the two springs and this white plastic tab can be removed. The outlet is down facing and contained within the in-use outdoor outlet cover, so I do not see this being an issue as far as safety or weatherproofing. My photo sensor worked fine, but replacements are available at home depot for $13.xx at the time of writing this review. Even for the additional $13, the value this post provides is far beyond the $75 price tag and $13 photo sensor (if replacement is needed).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from JUNK Bought 2 of these. You slide 2 pieces together and glue them. Both glues were completely dried up. One post had bottom end beveled and slid together. Second pole we banged it on the concrete to try to get it to slide together. Still 1.5" apart from being totally on, and base is flared out now (ground end) from all the attempts. NO QUALITY CONTROL. Now after reading further, I wonder how the outlet and photocell will work. I bet I'm digging these back out before long. CHEAP HD JUNK.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Product I bought this post partially because it had an outdoor receptacle that turned out to be virtually unusable. For starters the "bear trap" spring on the outlet cover and the odd upside down orientation of the receptacle make access very difficult. But the real problem are the covers over the plug slots in the outlet. These sliding covers make it almost impossible to insert a plug and I was never able to insert a three prong plug.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Customer Service/Okay Product I was looking for a reasonably priced replacement for our outdoor lamp post. This one has both a motion sensor and an electrical outlet. Both very useful. My one caution is the height of the product. It replaced a 30 yr old lamppost with house number hanger and the Hampton Bay product has the same hanger but well below the height of the original. And, lower than others on our street. Its a small point but it does cause one to adjust in looking for our house number.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Outlet is terrible The post and sensor work as advertised. The outlet is practically worthless. It is about 18" off the ground and you have to plug in pushing towards the sky. Ergonomic use was totally forgotten on this. I wish I would have discovered this issue before the cement set. Flee from this choice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 80 inch outdoor black lamp post, photoeye, outlet The only issue I have with this product is the difficulty accessing the electrical outlet. It may be that the need to protect it from the elements trumps the ease of access.
