Answer:
Thank you for your question. If you'd like to install LED bulbs, this fan would be compatible, but please select bulbs that are rated for "enclosed fixtures" to avoid heat released issue. LED bulbs tend to operate at higher temperatures.

If you want subdued lighting, 60 watts is exactly what you need, in fact they come with the unit. Try it, I think that you'll like it. If you need more light, I recommend the 60 watt that is balanced for daylight, (5500 K) it will appear to be a lot brighter without generating the heat, which is the problem with bulbs of higher wattage. Home depot and the rest of the industry seems to be restricting what they sell because of the liability issue. If the brighter light was made available, there would be a lot more customers for the candelabra based lighting units. Before you change the wall plug, experiment with the different bulbs that are available. This will also prevent a heat related problem that could cause other issues to be the subject of your questions, I have bought two of the said fans, and have rejected the 60 watt bulbs that come with the fan's lighting unit in favor of the daylight bulb. They still are not bright, but at least I don't feel like I am in a dark room when the lights are on. Read Less

Answer:
Thank you for your question. For the type of installation you are referencing, you would need an outdoor (damp rated) fan. Even though installing in a covered, screened in porch, over time the humidity and outdoor elements will damage the fan and void the warranty. We would not recommend installing this fan in any outdoor setting.

Answer:
While this isn't rated for outdoor use, I would say you could install this fan on your covered screened patio. I would suggest applying a clear wood sealant on the blades because they are natural wood.

Yes, a remote control can be installed with this unit. The recommended Hampton Bay models: #68130, or 68131 both work very nicely. Some people who have installed these in the fan have complained that there was very little room in the fans housing to facilitate the remote control mechanism, but I recommend that if you follow their instructions to the letter, you will find that it just fits. Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 216 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Antigua Ceiling Fan Easy to install. No special tools required. Special hook to hold motor up while wiring makes DIY possible for one person to do. Fan is very effective. Well made. Has the tropical look we wanted for our Hawaii home. Free home delivery was great since we installed four fans - no dragging boxes home from store. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice looking and works great! The fan is much nicer than we expected. Beautiful detail all around. June 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Returning to store VERY noisy fan. Returning it! We r on vacation and will return when we get home. Hoping Home Depot accepts it! June 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice looking A little pricey, but very nice looking. The quality looks good in our initial use. I thought it had a remote included like another Hampton Bay fan we purchased, but I was mistaken and had to purchase one. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Attractive fan We picked this fan and the builder installed. No negative feedback heard about install. We sure like this fan and everyone that has seen it also notes how attractive it is. We have used it for one week, runs quietly and no wobble. July 20, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Fan Purchased this fan because of it's cherry finish, to match other furniture in the room. However, the palm branch embellishments are more orange than the cherry finish I was expecting. I decided to keep it anyway because it does look great with the fireplace in same room. We are enjoying the benefits of the fan. Hubby said "it was the easiest fan installation I have ever done" May 31, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great, dim lighting though This is a great ceiling fan for a larger room. If you are looking to *light* a larger room, this is not the one you want. The bulbs it takes are not very bright, and don't really light a whole bedroom, and you can't use another kind. The blades do collect a lot of dust because they are textured. Swiffering the blades sometimes gets strings of fluff from the swiffer thingy stuck in the texturing. If I had to do the install again, I might try to sand/clear coat the blades a little to smooth them out. After about 3 years, the fan started making noise, but all I had to do was tighten up the hardware holding the blades on, and no problems, it's nice and quiet now. Installation wasn't much different than any other ceiling fan, though I do recommend using a ceiling kit as it is a large fan. On high speed, the fan seems almost too fast; it would be great to quickly cool a room. Low speed is a nice leisurely slow, and medium is where I usually keep it. Fast, but not hurricane fast. The photo shows the fan in a appx 20x13' room with about a month of dust stuck to it. odd looking blade shape is due to movement - it wasn't quite stopped when I took the photo. May 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love, love, love my new leaf fan I just love our new leaf fan. The leaves go great with my cherry dining set. When we installed it, I was dissapointed of how harsh blackish the base was. I toned down the blackish base with a little bit of s.o.s. pad and some acetone. I then sealed the oil rubbed finish with a little bit of shellac to really bring out the shine. Now it really looks like an antique brass fan......lol. The lights were too dim so we replaced with "60watt equivalent" candelabra base fluorescent spiral mini. I loved this fan so much that I was forced to tweak it to perfection for me. March 12, 2013
