I put this ceiling fan in with a 3 foot downrod. My ceiling is a slanted ceiling and we put it where the ceiling height was about 14 feet. I had never installed a ceiling fan before but this one was relatively easy, although the instructions weren't always clear. I'd recommend having someone help you if you know a "handyman" type. I had a buddy come help and it sped up the process tremendously. It still took us between 2:30 - 3 hours to take out the old fan and install the new one, but we were working on tall ladders and had to keep getting tools and hardware down on the ground. Plus we goofed around and didn't stay completely on task the whole time. If we were to install another one we could probably get it done in about an hour and a half.
Overall the fan is a good fan. The fan blades have a different pattern on each side so you can choose which one you want showing down below. The remote transmitter was easy to install and work. The fan moves a ton of air on the high setting and is very quiet and doesn't wobble on the high and low settings. Mine had a little wobble on the medium setting. The light is fairly bright - and I think bright enough, but if you have a big room then it may not be bright enough if this is your only light source (this is according to my wife who apparently likes things much brighter than I do). We have additional lighting in our living room so this worked great.
Observation: this fan does not have chains to adjust the fan speed. My previous fan had chains to adjust the fan speed and was also set on two switches (one for the light and one for the fan). When we installed this one we switched it to one switch - which sent power to the fan unit. We control the light and fan speed through the remote (don't lose the remote :) ). If you don't use the remote transmitter I think you could have the fan on one or two switches, but I don't know how you would control the fan speed (and I don't know what the default speed would be).

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Janice Fan looks nice but the remote is not well designed
For the price we paid for this fan, I would recommend it. It looks nice but the remote is not well designed and rather large. However, within weeks of purchasing we had a problem where the controller in the fan stopped working. You could not turn the fan/light on or off with the remote. This fan does not have the option of manually doing this. Home Depot quickly sent us a replacement controller to fix the fan, but now we have to take the fan down, replace it and hope it works and does not stop working again.

It looks great. My husband has installed other ceiling fans but had to call a contractor to finish the job on this one because the wiring did not work the way as explained in the instructions. It wasn't the end of the world and the fan works great and looks great. We actually bought two (one for the masterbedroom in oil rubbed bronze and one for the family room in brushed nickel) because we liked the look of the fan and the price was right.

I bought two of these for a very large room and they are beautiful, but have no pull cords, only remotes. This only becomes a problem if you don't want both to run at the same time since the remote works both and you can't start one without the other. Yes, the fans are on a single switch and we may change this if we decide it's too much air. The fans look great and put out a lot of air even on medium speed. Not sure that we will ever need them on high. These were a good purchase. I would recommend them.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by scb4x4 Very nice fan
This fan is great. I used it in a large living room. It moves a lot of air, while being very quiet. No balancing needed. The only thing I will say negative, is that it is black, not oil rubbed bronze. I purchased a black and a bronze down rod. The bronze was nowhere close to the color while the black matched perfect, Certainly nothing to mark off for. You will be very happy with this fan.

Was a Christmas gift so just got it put up. It looks really nice. I agree it was hard getting all the wires in the top but it was done. Won't use it much until the summer but right now it's working great. Make sure you have a 9 volt battery for the remote.
