Bay Island 52 in. Belcaro Walnut Ceiling Fan-DISCONTINUED is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Peasy Purchased two of these fans used recently. Came with no instructions and I had them both installed in 30 minutes...which includes time involved in removing the old fans. They're quiet and move a lot of air when you require them to do so. Like another reviewer mentioned, the finish does scratch, but if someone's inspecting your house that close, you shouldn't have invited them in or married into their family anyway. Fan speed chains are a little sticky/clinky with the light fixture installed since they have to route through the glass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful, quiet, effective We bought three of these fans for our bedrooms and couldn't be more pleased. The style is lovely, looking like a much more expensive fan. The walnut finish with antique gold trim is elegant and complements other brown finishes in the rooms such as oil-rubbed bronze and antique rust. The light bowl is especially pretty - we like it much better than the multiple trumpet-style glass found on other fans that shine directly in your eyes. The light is soft (we had to replace the CFL bulbs because we're using a dimmer switch) but that isn't a problem for us. Best of all, the fan is very effective at moving air at all speeds, and not just right under the blades. The blade pitch is such that you can feel the air movement anywhere in the room. There's no wobble and it's very quiet. On a side note, we needed a flush-mount fan in an adjacent room, and chose the Hampton Bay Hawkins fan, which has the same style and goes well with the Bay Island.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Attractive and quiet fan. Great value. Very quiet fan, runs smoothly and looks great. Heck of a value, has the quality and appearance of a fan costing at least $50 more. The lights provided are bright and nicely softened by the glass shade. Blades were perfectly balanced with simple installation, had no need to use the balancing weights provided. This was my first ceiling fan installation (replacing an overhead light). Just followed the detailed instructions and had no serious issues. Tiny flaw - the fan pull chain threads thru a small hole in the light kit collar. Because of the drop angle the beads on the chain might catch on the edges of the hole and stick. I put a small piece of electrical tape around the pull chain where it went through the hole - it now pulls smoothly and the tape is not visible outside the fan.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Noisy and scuffs too easily Spent a fair amount of time installing this fan due to it being a solo mission. Once I turned on the fan for the first time I hear a low hum from the motor. Extremely disappointed to have take it all apart and return it. The faux finish on the fan also scuffs EXTREMELY easily so if you buy this fan be very very careful putting in and taking out screws because the slightest touch of the screw driver or power drill will scuff the finish. It's a great looking fan, but I wish the quality of the fan was better. I wish I could also get a refund for all of the wasted time putting this fan together and taking it apart.....

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good fan motor, cheap blades Five stars for being quiet and moving a lot of air. There is no sound from motor or vibration, and it is very efficient in moving a lot of air. I also like that it accepts regular size CFL light bulbs. Installation was relatively easy, except that a very short screwdriver was required to screw in the screws that hold up the cover at the ceiling - - most people will not have a screwdriver that short. The bad: The blades are really cheaply made. My guess is that they are pressed paper, not even MDF. There are stickers on the blades, and when you try to pull them off, the finish peals off the blades. It is the thinest finish I have ever seen, and it will come off if you scratch it with anything, even your finger. The fan also has a small amount of wobble. I tried to balance the blades, but it was not possible to stop the wobble. I decided to accept the wobble because the fan was so quiet, but this wobble was not acceptable to my wife, and she is not happy about it. I like the light kit, but there is a lot of paint on the glass that restricts the amount of light coming out. If this is the only source of light in your room, you will not be happy with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a big "fan" of this fan I installed this fan in my family room a few months ago. The style look great with it's walnut housing and blades but that is pretty much the only good thing about this fan. Negatives? Many. First of all, I installed the fan without the light so I'm not sure if your problems will vary. First of all, this fan is very loud. Even on low it makes a very unpleasant buzzing noise. The other thing is is that it seems very unstable. When you pull the chain, it almost feels like the fan is going to fall on top of you. So if you LOVE the style of this fan, I'm not advising you not to buy it but Home Depot definitely has some better selections than this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fan! I picked this ceiling fan because my mom has it installed in her living room and it works extremely well for her. We installed this fan last weekend and it took less than an hour. Very easy to install, looks great, doesn't wobble and is whisper quiet. I can really feel the air being moved around...don't know if that's because this fan has a strong motor or if my old ceiling fan was just really weak! We had a couple of hiccups while installing when the instructions referred to such and such part, but it wasn't listed in the parts list or shown in a diagram, but turned out that both times it wasn't too difficult to figure out what they meant. I definitely would recommend this fan.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Noisy - Defective? I actually bought 3 of these. I like the look and appearance, but we had a problem with all three of them being noisy. I'm wondering if they were put on clearance because there's a problem with them. At first we thought it might be the wiring or switch, which we replaced. We had the same problem on all 3 installations. We then took another fan we had installed elsewhere and installed it in one of the new locations. Worked without any noise. So we took the fan purchased here and installed it in that location, and it made noise again. Conclusion: Seems to be the fans themselves. Returned.
