My husband purchased this amazing little light speaker and hung it in our Lani. The installation was simple I didn't even have to help. The sound quality is great and unlike my JABOX outdoor portable blue tooth speaker unit I never have to worry about the battery going dead so the music is never interrupted while entertaining friends. It is also great to have the added light if wanted out by our pool. I was a bit concerned about some of the other reviews about the light having to be on to make the speaker work but that is not the case. If you don't want the light simply pull the chain and the light will go out. If you want the light on without the fan simply pull the other chain and the fan stops. Great idea, great product, good job Hampton Bay!

Easy to convert current lighting fixture from my ceiling fan to this bluetooth audio and light fixture. They were both the same brand so all the wiring connections matched up with no issues. Once installed on my ceiling fan connecting with the bluetooth speaker was simple using the included instructions. The sound is decent considering its size and gives me more of a surround sound feel while streaming my tunes in the bedroom. Great value to add sound to a room without having to run speaker wiring all over the place.

I replaced my nonworking fan light with this kit, and was surprised at how easy it was to install. The only problem that I encountered was due to the old kit. To install the kit, you need the fan switch cover to attach the new kit to, and mine had a non-removable bracket attached to it from the old kit with some type of steel rivet. I ended up getting a hack saw and cutting the bracket off right at the base of the switch cover. This enabled me to very easily attach the new fan kit. Once that was off, it took maybe five minutes to install.
The Bluetooth capability is nice, but be aware that it is on if the light is on. I also have Bluetooth audio through my shower, and if I'm listening to music in the bathroom and then walk in and turn this light on, it will override the other Bluetooth and start playing it through this light whether I want it to or not. It would be nice if there was an on-off switch.

This is a great, innovative idea...adding Bluetooth audio capability to a light fixture. I needed some extra light in the living room and was thinking of adding a light kit to the ceiling fan that was already there. This fixture not only provides a lot of light with two standard sockets (two fluorescent bulbs were included!) but the audio feature is awesome. First though, the installation was super easy. The light fixture is designed to fit on any fan that can use a universal light fixture, which is most of them. I had a Hampton Bay Altura fan and the light kit threaded right into the bottom of the fan. I did have to remove the cup on the bottom of the fan to connect the two power wires, but they just plugged right into the wires that were already there. All that was left to do was to reconnect the cup to the bottom of the fan, install the light bulbs and attach the glass shade. This took less than ten minutes total. One thing to note is that the fixture comes with pull chains so you can turn the light off if you want to use the audio feature by itself. You'll just need to make sure you have continuous power for the audio feature. I ended up connecting the fixture power to a switch on the wall so I could control it separately from the fan. After powering everything up, I was able to scan and connect to the light fixture quickly. It shows up as "Audio Light" and connected easily from both my iPad and Samsung android phone. I fired up Pandora to test the sound quality and am very impressed with it. There are two speakers built into the unit and the sounds is loud and clear. Since it's hanging in the center of the room on the fan, it really fills the space. We've been able to stream everything from music to SportsCenter from my devices. Since this fixture is outdoor rated, I'm planning to hang one on my fan outside. I'm sure it will be hit when we're out on the patio.

I came across this light kit when I was looking for a replacement fan for my office. It was on a mounting stand right in front of the ceiling fan isle. My agenda was just to get a new fan but I thought that this would be a nice touch to my office by just playing some tunes to help get through the hard days. The installation had a minor delay due to the original light kit I had prior to picking this Bluetooth version up. The light kit I had was a 4 light down light and it would require taking off the individual lights, luckily, I had another fan in another office that did not have a light kit so I just took that switch cap cover and put the 4 light kit on that the other fan and used the cover for the speaker light kit. You probably will not have the same luck, so if you have a down light kit, and do not have the extra cap for a non light kit option you may want to get a hold of a switch cap cover before your install.
Once that was worked out, I just aligned the thread of the new light kit with the Bluetooth speakers to the switch cap cover threads and twisted the cover on. About 20 twists later, it was ready to wire.
Wiring - there should be a blue or black wire coming from the fan's switch cup for a light kit. In my case, it had a blue wire so I just connected the black wire from the Bluetooth light kit to the blue wire and the white to the white. 3 screws later I was ready to test. I hit the wall switch to turn the power on without installing the bulbs yet just to test and I was able to find the Bluetooth audio light within 10 seconds. I cranked up the tunes and was happy.
Next I installed the CFL bulbs and the glass cover and tested the lights. Finished it off with the pull chain guides that come with the kit.
A few notes - a couple of the reviews mentioned the light has to be on for the speakers to work. I found this to be not be true or the choice of words to be incorrect. The speakers work without the light as long as there is power to the fan. If the fan or lights are wired to a wall switch and that switch is off, then the power to the fan or light is off therefore, "no power" to the fan which would mean, the speakers will not have power to them. I think this is what they experienced. If the wall switch is in the on position, the light at the audio light can be turned on and off at the pull chain and the speakers work regardless if he light is on or off at the light kit.
Over all, this is a great product and I will probably buy a couple for gifts for birthdays coming up.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ToolTimeTony Easy to install indoor/outdoor light kit with good outdoor sound!
This is an add-on light kit for a standard ceiling fan, suitable for indoor or outdoor locations. Light has two sockets for use with any type bulb, and comes with two compact florescent bulbs. Great feature is the bluetooth enabled speaker. Installation is easy, unscrew old light cover plate on the fan, pop out the center plug, and the new light kit screws into the mount. Simply connect the white and blue wires into the existing fan bottom piece, and re-screw the entire unit back on to the fan. If you were smart enough to have wired the light to hot when you installed the fan, that’s all there is to it. If you didn’t connect the light wire when you installed the fan, you will have to remove the fan from the ceiling junction box and connect the blue light wire to hot (black) as well as the existing fan lead (black) . I believe replacing an existing non blue tooth light kit would be just as easy, remove the old light and screw in the new light unit.
When installed, the light turns on and off by the center pull chain. When power is on to the light, the blue tooth is activated in discover mode. Simply pair it with your phone, iPod, or ipad and you now have a pretty good sounding wireless system. I used an ipad it paired without any problems. Note that you can only pair one device at a time, so if you have another Bluetooth speaker you have to choose either the light speaker or that unit. When paired, all control of volume is done through the remote device, your phone or iPod. Fairly loud, and as it is mounted high, sound disperses well in an area. Decent tone, which you can adjust through the equalizer setting of your device. Very convenient as all you need to do is pair the device and you have instant outdoor sound. Looks good, black speaker grill covers the entire unit, as seen in the photo. A nice speaker that also provides light, and will also impress the neighbors with your technology savvy.

Thought it was kinda a gimmic, but why not. It is pretty awesome. Use it everyday as back round music during get togethers and dinner time, lullaby for nap time... ect. Great price and product.

Received this product and installed in in place of the light kit on my Hampton Bay outdoor fan on my patio. As soon as I fired it up I was able to pair my android phone and play Pandora through the speaker. It sounds pretty good for what it is. Volume is controlled by your device.
One thing I think would be a little better is if there was the ability to just turn on/off the speaker part of this. The light must be on for the Bluetooth to activate. Most times, I would rather sit on my patio and listen to music with the light off, as sometimes we have a fire in the pit, or just want to enjoy the night. Other than that, its a great unit, and it is very up to date with technology.
