we want a bigger fan for our great room but it will need to hang down approx. 18" can we change the rod on the fan to make it lower, it looks like the fan frame connects to the rod but it may not be secured and the factory rod may be able to be removed a larger rod could be added?kc

Answer:
Probably not, but I was able to switch out the bottom fixture and replaced it with a hanging pendant.

Answer:
I put a 24" down rod on and it works great. I've done others with 4'-5' down rods. They will work if balanced.

Answer:
Hi kc,
Yes, this fan will accept a longer down rod. Just match the finish and the diameter of the rod.
At the ends of the down rod are pins that will fit into most down rods with holes drilled across the opening at the ends. The pin is what secures the fan, so most down rods are compatible.
Thanks for asking.

Read the dimensions on the box.
If they are not visible on the box, open the box and fine the manual inside.

Answer:
Well, considering there is no such thing as a 'standard' ceiling fan, it depends on the ceiling height for this fan to work.
This can work for 9 foot ceilings, but you must excise caution for lower ceilings.

Yes.
All the functions will work with a remote if the wall switch is on, and not if its off.

Answer:
Yes, it can be wired to a regular wall switch for on/off function only. So you would set it at the light and speed level with the remote and then it will remember the setting when turned off and on at the switch.

The reverse switch is on top of the motor housing. Hopefully it was installed at the proper ceiling fan height (blades 7' from the floor).

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 117 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for Great Room Separate light controls for upper and lower lights. Quiet. Moves a lot of air. Very happy. Recommend. May 17, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good looking piece. Rating would have been better if they would have included a reverse option on the remote. The reverse switch is located on the top of the motor. If you have a high ceiling, like me, this will be a disadvantage. Good looking fan. Lights are bright and the remote dimmer works nicely. Easy install for one person. April 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ceiling fan The ceiling fan is very nice looks great in my living room. We like the remote control. Was not to hard to put together. April 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 1 Hampton Bay Brookdale II ceiling fan Looks great, easy to install, runs great ! May have to purchase one more. January 19, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by NO reverse function on remote....How can you change direction on a 20" ceiling??? This product clearly states on the box it is "IDEAL for a Great Room".Most great rooms have tall ceilings. I personally have a 20" ceiling. The fan was installed with a 6 ft. downrod (the longest HD had) The electrician installed the fan, tested it etc and left. (needed a electrician as he had a 16ft. step ladder). It was not until later that I noticed that there was no "reverse" button on the remote. The reverse switch is on the unit/motor itself. How am I going to reverse the fan when it is 13 ft. high???? I have purchased other fans by Hampton Bay which were less money and they have always had a reverse button. Someone dropped the ball on this fan!!!!Not Happy! June 21, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ? I love this fan, it is absolutely beautiful and I have gotten so many compliments on it December 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks and works great! I got 2 of these fans to move the air in a 26 x 36 room with 15 ft ceiling. I have a pellet stove as the primary heat and needed to get the air moving well. They look and work great! Installation was a bit tricky but not too bad. They give you plenty of wire for longer down rods. After you run the wire through the downtrodden, be sure to cut the excess wire to about 5" or else you will never be able to stuff it all inside the electrical box. Other than that, take your time and follow the directions exactly and you should be fine. Definitely recommend this fan! October 30, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I searched for years for the perfect fan/light that would fit my size room and found it when I saw this one. I hired Handyman to install & the receiver didn't work. He went to Home Depot and they only had diff receiver which didn't work. I ordered new fan online which receiver didn't work on it either so paid him again. I called maker and they sent 2 receivers (free) one of each and handyman came again and installed (4th time) and worked perfectly! The other one I put in the one mailed to me and I returned to store for refund. I paid the handyman approx $375 when the fan was approx $228. Now that its fixed I LOVE IT & its Beautiful.
