This was the first fan that I have installed, and the product itself is excellent. The fan was a special value and included a remote control. After I installed the fan, I called customer service because the light was so dim, they informed me that the light control had a dimmer and walked me through the control. The dimmable light was an unexpected bonus.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Marv Great Fan, should have added a cover if Light Kit not installed
This is a great fan, quiet, and we love the remote. However, don't buy this if you don't want to use the light kit for some reason. We decided that the lights were too low for the Family Room, so opted not to install them, and use the globes as back ups for our bed room fan from the same company. I'm not sure what it would have cost for the company to add the cover plate, and they admit they have had several inquiries, but still no plate. Not to be stymied, I discovered that the plastic top to any 1lb Coffee Can spray painted with a dark brown to match the blades fit just perfectly and covered the wires until the company decides to make one available.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LastGoodGuy Works great for 2 Wire installs.
This was the first fan my wife picked out based on looks alone, before even looking at prices. When we saw the cost we looked at others a little more expensive. Then we went and read reviews. This is replacing a very expensive unit that has inherent circuit board problems. The repairs alone would have been double the cost of this fan light with remote kit. I almost did not buy this based on another review saying you could not install on a 2 wire install. They must have had a unique requirement. I was able to install on a 12 foot vaulted ceiling with a 54 inch down rod. It is a bit of work as the remote receiver has to be mounted above down rod in decorative mounting bracket. The unit works great first try. Time will tell how it holds up but based on installation it appears well made.

As any first timer, I was a little nervous about my ability to not only install a ceiling fan, but to find one that would meet my expectations on the first try. Living far away from any Home Depot, I was nervous ordering online and had almost given up when I found this unit. It had everything I was hoping to purchase in a fan (remote control, light fixture, two-sided blades) with the added bonus of being VERY affordable. The reviews left me with the impression that the remote receiver would be hard to situate properly, but I felt confident in my ability to overcome that one. Also, the installation video on the Home Depot website let me see how easy it would actually be to do the install.
Without sufficient time to do the install on the day it came, I opened the box and reviewed the contents and instructions. I made myself thoroughly familiar with the process from the instructions before even starting the project. I was even able to do some of the smaller sub-assembly operations and modify the fixture to flush-with-ceiling-type installation that evening. The install took about 1½ hours start-to-finish.
The fixture looks nice, provides plenty of light, and the only noise detectable is the sound of the air over the blades. The motor noise is non-detectable. The remote receiver was easily maneuvered into place and everything is well engineered for easy installation and what appears to be many happy years of enjoyment.
I don't think there's a thing I could have expected that would have made it easier or nicer.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dimmer Great fan. Not too bright, though.
Installation was troubling, at best. I consider myself adept at simple installations, and have installed fans before. The remote sensor is meant to be wired in and inserted in the mounting bracket under the ceiling housing. I tried, and tried, and tried, but I could not get the sensor to fit in there properly. I ended up tastefully securing the sensor to the downrod. Not the most optimal, but better than the unit being thrown through a window.
Aside from that, installation was a breeze and was common to any other fan.
The only complaint I have about the fan itself is the brightness of the bulbs...or I guess, the lack. There are three decorative bulbs supplied, but the fan has a max of 65w, and the brightness of the bulbs leaves a bit to be desired. Being that the bulbs used have the smaller form factor than standard, I'm hoping that I may be able to find a CFL that may increase the brightness.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Fred521 Hampton Bay Fan 1 1/2 year later
The remote control seemed like a cool feature, and had I been reviewing this 6 months ago I would have said it was a good deal. However, recently the receiving unit up inside the base went bad, lights no longer work. Called HD service desk and they want $40 to replace it. Plus of course it's a pain taking it all apart again. When I asked if this was common and if I'd have to buy another in a couple years she laughed and said "We'll be here!" I just bought a replacement fan/light from someone else, with pull chains to control lights and fan.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by barry Looks great but unimpressive performance
I bought this fan for my master bedroom. The remote control was one reason I chose this one. The assembly instructions were confusing as far as the rod verses flush mount. The light shades connect to the fixture by spring-like metal tabs. It's easy to install the shades but the tabs are visible when the light is on. The light fixture uses candelabra base bulbs (think christmas light sized base) and the bulbs included with the fan don't put out much light. The worse part is the fan wobbles and it's especially bad when the fan is on high. I wouldn't buy this one again. And I've purchased many Hampton Bay ceiling fans in the past. On the plus side, this fan looks great!

I have a cathedral ceiling so had to hire an electrician to run a wire and install the fan and the lights. I am happy with the resultant look and operation of the fan and the lights. The remote works well and the dimming ability is a plus.
