Answer:
Glass. Be aware that they are fairly dark. I did not like their appearance but like the fan. I am using shades from another fan.

Not plastic. Use a bulb that is low heat because these will tend to peel the film decoration inside after some time.

Yes, this fan works with wireless remotes, and possibly some wired wall switch controls.
I personally bought the Hampton Bay branded Premier remote kit and it works perfectly with this carriage house model. I stowed the wiring in between the mommy and electrical box as best I could, and then used double sided adhesive foam to mount the worked receiver on the Gerling, inside the larger metal housing. Answer:
Due to the hugger design of the motor housing, there is no dedicated area for the remote receiver to be placed and therefore, it is not recommended to install a remote with this fan.

Answer:
Hi dkr2. Hugger style fans typically do not have a place to hold the remote receiver, so we do not recommend using a remote control with this fan. However, some have claimed to be able to zip-tie the receiver in the housing - so it can be done. We just don't recommend it as doing so may cause vibration noise.

I'm having a very difficult time finding a ceiling fan that is flush mounted, gives off around 240 watts of light and is remote controlled and reverses direction. I am trying to replace a fan that has a fabulous remote control. This time I want flush mounted as well. Thank you.

With regards to your fan search, you may want to consider a tri-mount fan. That is fan that included a downrod, but has the option to mount it flush without the downrod. This will give you more options and most are remote compatible.
For lighting, most times, you can find LED bulbs that will give you greater light output without exceeding the suggested wattage. After-market remote controls do not have a reverse function as that requires an extra reverse module for the motor and there it's not enough room for that in the receiver.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Flimsy mount base and it wobbles. This was my 8th ceiling fan installation in 15 years. Since I will only use in on Low and in reverse, I will leave it in place otherwise I would return it. This unit replaced an expensive Hunter whose light kit died and it was more expensive than buying a new fan unit. Since this is a hugger, the manufacturer used an under engineered simple flat strap mount instead of a wider circle like Hunter, or a suspended ball cradle like a drop down unit. I had to use rubber hose washers to level the unit. The only contact is against the mount box which like adds to the wobbling. Unlike the Hunter it replaced which had 4 rubber feet and a wide base plate. The motor of this unit weighed about 1/3rd of the Hunter. Once you get the base installed with the least amount of wiggle you can, the rest of the installation is pretty easy. I have a wall switch so I wired the RED house wire to the unit BLUE wire so the wall switch controls the light. The light unit is very bright. Had I known about the undersized mounting plate I would have bought low down rod model, like a 4", as they usually have a sturdy ball cradle which mitigates wobble. But the room is small and it only needs to run on low. I would recommend a short rod unit over this flush mount. September 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by looks great took a handyman over 1 hour to install, so not exactly a quick install. Also, 2 of the lights in the light assembly were defective so had to get another sent from plant. But they were very nice and helpful on the phone. This will mean another visit from my handyman. But it looks great, and hopefully it will last a long time. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by overall nice fan/light hanger to hold fan up while installing was iffy but worked. I like that the light fixture uses standard bulbs so we have led bulbs in it and you can turn on 2 of the 4 lights at a time or all 4. overall very nice looking/working fan/light. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Fan !! This is my second Carriage House fan.. Our first one was bought 5 yrs. ago for a bedroom.. This one was for a living room... The newer model has some great features!!! That is not mentioned in the add.. Like as others have said the light kit now has a few settings !! First click 2 opposite come on ..Next click 2 other opposite come on . One more click all 4 come on.. What a great feature.. All fans should have this feature ..What a great idea ! No more having to leave dead bulbs in....Yee Haw ! We have always loved the natural colour of this Carriage House fan.. Really goes with our décor .... The fan nice and quiet , Easy to set up...No wobble... And we had it shipped right to the house! Lifetime motor warranty is a big plus.. We will buy another Carriage House fan for another room... We really love the style of this fan .. July 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than Hunter Bought a Hunter fan from 'someone else'. It was a nightmare to install and didn't work when I finally got it done! Did a Home Depot search on what I wanted after some more surfing. Found this fan, HD sent it in a very timely manner, was a breeze to install and actually WORKED! April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Looking and Stylish Fan The fan was not to hard to assemble and it is a show piece over my dining room table. It puts out a lot of air and the lighting is great.Im using led bulbs. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great fan at a great price! This is a great fan. It is very quiet and the colors fit in with my room colors perfectly. It arrived quickly and was very easy to install. The main reason I purchased this fan was because it uses regular light bulbs, not incandescent. Very high quality and beautiful. I would definitely recommend this fan. It has the lights where you can have all of them on at once or just two at a time. April 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great value and perfect accent for a large room. I needed a 52" fan for the master bedroom but wanted a flush mount as it would be over the bed. This fit the bill perfectly. The lighting is great, beautiful color that matches the furniture, it moves the air just enough at low speed and a it has a lifetime warranty. Mhy wife loves that you can have either two or 4 lights lit by a pull of the chain. I couldn't have picked better. November 20, 2012
