Answer:
That is exactly what this is for,to turn a manual controlled ceiling fan into a remotely controlled one.Installation could get complicated if you don't have room inside your ceiling cover plate for the receiver unit which is roughly 1 inch thick by 5 inches long and 2 1/8 inches wide.

Answer:
As an addendum to my last answer. Some fans do not have the physical space inside the shroud to hold a remote receiver/controller. You may want to check the space available inside your fan's shell to make sure the is sufficient space for the receiver. The receiver is 2.1" wide x 4.8" long x 1.0" thick (approximately).

Answer:
This remote [kit] does contain a receiver to add remote functionality to your fan. If the fan was remote controllable but you do not have the actual remote, this will work. If the fan never had remote capability the included receiver will then add that functionality.

Answer:
The remote control will not do this, the fan has to be designed to have the reverse switch in the remote control. Most fans do not have the reverse switch in the remote due to cost. The reverse switch will normally be located on top of the motor housing.

Ceiling Fan Remote Control is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 228.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well for my setup I have a great room with two hunter fans. I wanted to have a wall mounted control as well as this wireless remote. It works pretty well although occasionally the light dimmers on the two fans will get out of sync so when you hold down the brightness button, one light will be getting brighter while the other is dimming. Other than that, I had no issues mixing fans, wall controls and remotes from different manufacturers as long as the dip switches are in the right place.

I was really skeptical about this remote because it didn't look like the old one. I tried to program it myself and as usual I over thought the instructions. I called the Help line and they were wonderful and helped me. It was really very easy and am going to order another one just for backup.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't fit in most fans! I cannot yet install this remote because the receiver is way too big to fit into the fan canopy. I bought this along with a Hampton Bay fan and it did not fit. Very frustrated with the product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect basic Remote for Hampton Bay Fan/Lights Ceiling fan/light remotes can get lost, break, or simply wear out. This unit is an excellent, economical, OEM replacement. Unfortunately, Home Depot chooses not to stock it in their stores, only carrying it on-line. Furthermore, they don't sell the remote as a stand-alone replacement unit. You can only buy the remote in a package with the controller that goes inside the ceiling mount, making it cost more than necessary and resulting in your accumulating a number of useless controllers. That's why I rate the Value as Poor. One other thing, I think the plastic wall mounting bracket should have a sturdier, more positive grip on the unit to prevent it from accidentally falling out and possibly breaking.

After being assured that this remote control would work with my ceiling fan I ordered it and after looking at the installation instructions I realized something was wrong. Ken at your service center verified that this remote control would not work with my fan. The control receiver for my fan fits near the light kit at the bottom of my fan. The receiver for this remote fits in the installation at the ceiling. My model fan has been discontinued and apparently so has this remote control. Thankfully the local Home Depot store replaced my ceiling fan with a new one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Remote This remote is very intuitive to use without a bunch of excess buttons to confuse you. The only big negative I had was installation as it was shipped separately from the fan which ended up requiring a bunch of rework. Also, on the instructions it assumed a certain type of installation of the fan which did not work for the fan I bought. As a result I had to improvise an installation that took a bit of time to figure out. I would buy the remote again but would be happier with it had the manufacturer determined a way to accommodate it with my fan installation.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Remote Fan Control - not used On your website, this product was recommended as a purchase when I selected the ceiling fan by Hampton Bay. However, the instructions on the packaging for this Remote Control stated that it was not for all fans or fan/lights. It would be necessary to measure the motor housing of the fan to determine if this control unit would work with the fan that I purchased. If the remote unit won't work with a specific fan or fan/light, then it should not be recommended for purchase. I returned the Remote Control to a local HD store.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ceiling fan remote needs downsizing Appeared to be be just what I was looking for in a remote. HD associate said this would work with the fan being purchased at the same time. Got home and mounted the fan, connected the remote (noticed the packaging had been previously opened) only to find out the wired unit doesn't fit inside the ceiling housing. must have been the same reason previous purchaser returned the opened product. Wired control box could and should be a smaller size to fit in ANY housing. Save your self a lot of time (and money) and make sure the unit will fit in your fan's ceiling housing before you leave the store.
