Can this remote turn a none-remote fan into a remote fan.

I found a 44" in Hampton Bay ceiling fan that I like but it doesn't come with a remote. Can this remote convert the fan for remote use
Asked by: katie
That is exactly what this is for,to turn a manual controlled ceiling fan into a remotely controlled one.Installation could get complicated if you don't have room inside your ceiling cover plate for the receiver unit which is roughly 1 inch thick by 5 inches long and 2 1/8 inches wide.

I'm looking to get this remote for my Hampton Bay Lyndhurst fan (item: 202435778) which uses these dimmable LED lights (item: 207175219). I'd assume that I can set the dip switch to dim/incandescent and then it should work fine, correct? Thanks!

I did double check .. it dims incandescent bulbs

No. This remote control transmits via radio frequencies, not WiFi or Bluetooth.

I was really skeptical about this remote because it didn't look like the old one. I tried to program it myself and as usual I over thought the instructions. I called the Help line and they were wonderful and helped me. It was really very easy and am going to order another one just for backup.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect basic Remote for Hampton Bay Fan/Lights Ceiling fan/light remotes can get lost, break, or simply wear out. This unit is an excellent, economical, OEM replacement. Unfortunately, Home Depot chooses not to stock it in their stores, only carrying it on-line. Furthermore, they don't sell the remote as a stand-alone replacement unit. You can only buy the remote in a package with the controller that goes inside the ceiling mount, making it cost more than necessary and resulting in your accumulating a number of useless controllers. That's why I rate the Value as Poor. One other thing, I think the plastic wall mounting bracket should have a sturdier, more positive grip on the unit to prevent it from accidentally falling out and possibly breaking.

After being assured that this remote control would work with my ceiling fan I ordered it and after looking at the installation instructions I realized something was wrong. Ken at your service center verified that this remote control would not work with my fan. The control receiver for my fan fits near the light kit at the bottom of my fan. The receiver for this remote fits in the installation at the ceiling. My model fan has been discontinued and apparently so has this remote control. Thankfully the local Home Depot store replaced my ceiling fan with a new one.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ceiling fan remote needs downsizing Appeared to be be just what I was looking for in a remote. HD associate said this would work with the fan being purchased at the same time. Got home and mounted the fan, connected the remote (noticed the packaging had been previously opened) only to find out the wired unit doesn't fit inside the ceiling housing. must have been the same reason previous purchaser returned the opened product. Wired control box could and should be a smaller size to fit in ANY housing. Save your self a lot of time (and money) and make sure the unit will fit in your fan's ceiling housing before you leave the store.

Unfortunately I needed one with an uplight circuit also which I thought this was. Couldn't find that on the website so I am using this as I needed a new receiver(which this came with though it doesn't show it). Price for remote was the same for the remote with receiver which was a plus. Got fan working now just looking for what I really need. If you don't have an uplight circuit this is fine

I looked specifically for a Hampton Bay remote that was compatible with the Hampton Bay fans that are installed in my house. Was very disappointed to find that this remote will only control my fans if I first disassemble and install a new receiver in the one fan that this will then control. If I had known that I would have bought a less expensive generic "universal remote" where it's clear that you have to install their receiver. I'm 70 and can't climb to the top of a ladder and work for a long time disassembling the fan, removing the existing receiver, installing the new receiver, and then reassembling the fan so I'm going to have to hire someone to do it for me. I'll bet that will cost me more than the remote. Why won't Hampton Bay sell remotes that are working replacements for their own remotes? Bottom line, buy a cheaper generic remote and don't bother with Hampton Bay.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from remote without a screw The remote to a new ceiling fan works great, feels a little cheap, difficult to install and screws missing to mount on a wall. The price is a little high for what you get, but it works great and very irritating that screws were missing.... part of it was already installed( in the fan and ceiling) when we noticed screws were missing so not an option to return unless we wanted to start all over again!

Lost my remote to an existing fan and bought this remote, which came with the receiver.I could make an existing fan that wasn't remote controled remote controllable. Worked fine for me with my existing remote controlled fan. The hardest part was finding the settings for the remote on the existing receiver on my fan, which was located about 12ft, up. Otherwise works like a charm.
