Answer:
That is exactly what this is for,to turn a manual controlled ceiling fan into a remotely controlled one.Installation could get complicated if you don't have room inside your ceiling cover plate for the receiver unit which is roughly 1 inch thick by 5 inches long and 2 1/8 inches wide.

Answer:
As an addendum to my last answer. Some fans do not have the physical space inside the shroud to hold a remote receiver/controller. You may want to check the space available inside your fan's shell to make sure the is sufficient space for the receiver. The receiver is 2.1" wide x 4.8" long x 1.0" thick (approximately).

Answer:
This remote [kit] does contain a receiver to add remote functionality to your fan. If the fan was remote controllable but you do not have the actual remote, this will work. If the fan never had remote capability the included receiver will then add that functionality.

Answer:
The remote control will not do this, the fan has to be designed to have the reverse switch in the remote control. Most fans do not have the reverse switch in the remote due to cost. The reverse switch will normally be located on top of the motor housing.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 207 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect basic Remote for Hampton Bay Fan/Lights Ceiling fan/light remotes can get lost, break, or simply wear out. This unit is an excellent, economical, OEM replacement. Unfortunately, Home Depot chooses not to stock it in their stores, only carrying it on-line. Furthermore, they don't sell the remote as a stand-alone replacement unit. You can only buy the remote in a package with the controller that goes inside the ceiling mount, making it cost more than necessary and resulting in your accumulating a number of useless controllers. That's why I rate the Value as Poor. One other thing, I think the plastic wall mounting bracket should have a sturdier, more positive grip on the unit to prevent it from accidentally falling out and possibly breaking. October 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice simple remote If you are a DYI'er then this is straight forward simple to install. If you can follow directions, you can install this as well. I had CFL lights on my fan and can't dim the lights, but the remote has a dip switch that gives you the option of using it for non-dimmable bulbs or for dimmable bulbs. I can't give it a reliability grade just yet because I just installed it last week (5-5-16), but so far so good. See the pictures for final installation - FYI: I painted the blades to match my 6 yr. old son's room decor/color (original fan blades are white). May 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by If this was what I really wanted it would be just fine. Unfortunately I needed one with an uplight circuit also which I thought this was. Couldn't find that on the website so I am using this as I needed a new receiver(which this came with though it doesn't show it). Price for remote was the same for the remote with receiver which was a plus. Got fan working now just looking for what I really need. If you don't have an uplight circuit this is fine October 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Did not work with my ceiling fan. I had to return it to the store. October 25, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by The only thing I don't like about this hand control is the fact that you have to power the lights all the way to the brightest setting in order to lower the brightness. Also no on/off control for the lights, just the fan. October 26, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by remote without a screw The remote to a new ceiling fan works great, feels a little cheap, difficult to install and screws missing to mount on a wall. The price is a little high for what you get, but it works great and very irritating that screws were missing.... part of it was already installed( in the fan and ceiling) when we noticed screws were missing so not an option to return unless we wanted to start all over again! October 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works better than expected Instead of drilling through brick wall and running a switched circuit, my wife suggested getting the remote that suited our new porch's ceiling fan. Naturally, it was an excellent suggestion. You can put it into operation with one eye closed, the other squinted and an arm tied behind your back. And, of course, saving all that drilling and electrical work is a no brainer. October 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by CEILING FAN REMOTE CONTROL Great brand name product for a reasonable price. Looks cool and functions as expected. October 19, 2016
