Answer:
That is exactly what this is for,to turn a manual controlled ceiling fan into a remotely controlled one.Installation could get complicated if you don't have room inside your ceiling cover plate for the receiver unit which is roughly 1 inch thick by 5 inches long and 2 1/8 inches wide.

Answer:
As an addendum to my last answer. Some fans do not have the physical space inside the shroud to hold a remote receiver/controller. You may want to check the space available inside your fan's shell to make sure the is sufficient space for the receiver. The receiver is 2.1" wide x 4.8" long x 1.0" thick (approximately).

Answer:
This remote [kit] does contain a receiver to add remote functionality to your fan. If the fan was remote controllable but you do not have the actual remote, this will work. If the fan never had remote capability the included receiver will then add that functionality.

No, this remote does not have the reverse option. If your fan doesn't have a reverse button, you will need the original remote controller.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 168 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice simple remote If you are a DYI'er then this is straight forward simple to install. If you can follow directions, you can install this as well. I had CFL lights on my fan and can't dim the lights, but the remote has a dip switch that gives you the option of using it for non-dimmable bulbs or for dimmable bulbs. I can't give it a reliability grade just yet because I just installed it last week (5-5-16), but so far so good. See the pictures for final installation - FYI: I painted the blades to match my 6 yr. old son's room decor/color (original fan blades are white). May 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Serves the purpose All I wanted was to replace my 3 fan remotes but had to buy the entire electrical unit. Since my fans are high up and would require a very tall ladder to see the codes, I just kept trying different combinations until they worked. Got them all working. The product is fine except for the fact that I only wanted the remotes and not the entire electrical part. An expense I did not want to have. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Replaced perfectly This remote replaced original control for Hunter ceiling fan purchased over 10 years ago. Noticed this new remote in pictures had dip switches for security frequency change which was same on the original control so purchased. Well it worked changing switch position as original remote. A great purchase with now more modern buttons to push. June 7, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by this remote is junk One month after installation the fan started going on by its self. It turns out the battery was low. Either a very low quality battery or a device that depletes the battery in 1 month. Either way a device that turns on the fan when a battery gets weak is a very poor design. I suggest buying a better quality fan/remote. May 17, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Use it as a paper weight or phaser if role playing star trek.. Instructions seem backwards.. i.e. certain information should be placed up front rather than in back such as setting the pin codes this way you don't have to reinstall fan unit to get to remote receive to then reset pin number. Didn't work right out of box. Took me 5 hours to install fan plus remote, plus lots of aggravation and sore arms standing with arms raised on a 6' ladder. Light for remote worked, but fan/motor control dead on arrival. I would not recommend this junk to anyone. Save your money and just go with using the pull chain. There was no way after 5 hours of sweat and swearing that I was about to uninstall fan from ceiling to get to remote receiver so I can reinstall ceiling fan to send back remote for refund.. just not worth the energy and aggravation for another 5 hours of work. I've successfully installed at least five ceiling fans over time, and two remotes. The fan and remote from this company is got to be the worst as far as engineering design for installation, and for remote - workability. Plain and simple - the remote is JUNK. Although this was for a fan, I'm not a fan. May 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by exellent As this was a replacement for an existing unit of the same product, I have no. complaints. Had the transmitter unit not had an accident, I probably would not needed to purchase the product as the first unit had already lasted seven years without complaint. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fan Remote Easy to install even for a novice and a good value for the price. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Drop in Replacement for my failed Hampton Bay fan controller My fan controller had failed so I ordered this one. The only thing different about the new one was the color but who cares. It was a drop in replacement (same form, fit, and function of the old unit). April 5, 2016
