As advertised, the receiver was designed to fit inside the bracket of the Hampton Bay fans we own and the fans did not need to come down to make the installation. (installed into 52" Gazebo II) It was very easy and the instructions were very clear. The cradle for the remote is not very strong and does not hold the remote securely if you push the buttons while it is sitting in it. It does hold it secure as a storage place when not in use. However, the purpose of the remote is not having to get to a wall to turn on and of the fan in the first place so I see no problem there. To solve the common problems of turning off the wall switch to the fan and not adding extra holes in the wall for the cradle (yet still having the cradle to give a place to store the remote when you leave the room) I made a minor modification to the cradle. The picture shows this small modification. It was done using a utility knife to accommodate the switch. The plastic was soft enough to simply push the blade through. The mounting hole lines up with the wall plate screw. This took away the eyesore of another thing on the wall and secured the wall switch in the on position to prevent accidentally turning it off.

The package came with an additional item to be installed inside the celling fan in order for the remote to work. My landlord had to pay an electrician to do the job. I wish they added a video on how to install the item that came with the remote.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Juka Exactly what I needed
I only needed a remote for a fan -- I moved into a house which was in foreclosure. The house had fans installed, but the previous owner apparently took the remotes with them (or tossed them). I just had to be sure the fan and remote were programmed the same and voila!

Ordered this with the outdoor fan, it works very well. I dropped it a couple times, it still works.

When the remote for the ceiling fan would no longer work, I bought this as a replacement remote on the suggestion of the manufacturer. I had my electrician to replace the board in the fan. If you know how to install a ceiling fan, then this would be an easy task for you. The look of the remote is different from the one that came with the fan but it works just fine.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Slinger Ceiling fan remote needs downsizing
Appeared to be be just what I was looking for in a remote. HD associate said this would work with the fan being purchased at the same time. Got home and mounted the fan, connected the remote (noticed the packaging had been previously opened) only to find out the wired unit doesn't fit inside the ceiling housing. must have been the same reason previous purchaser returned the opened product. Wired control box could and should be a smaller size to fit in ANY housing. Save your self a lot of time (and money) and make sure the unit will fit in your fan's ceiling housing before you leave the store.

Recently purchased the remote because my Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan remote that came with it several years ago stop working. The remote was staying on all the time, turning on and off the light randomly and wasting the battery. This remote works perfectly with the fan without changing out the receiver, universal. So now I have a new remote and a brand new receiver that I was not expecting to come with it, a bonus! Thanks Hampton Bay.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bradford Solved my problem perfectly!
No installation here - I only used the hand-held control as I did not need to install the receiver, so this review is just of the hand-held remote itself.
I had to move two of the DIP switches under the battery cover in order to match the settings of the old remote and it worked the first time I tried it. The buttons on this unit seem to be of a better quality as there is a bit of a "click" to the buttons, rather than the soft mushy feel of the old remote. It does use the tiny A23 sized battery, so not a simple AAA replacement or 9v like the old remote. This remote is flatter and much, much lighter than the older remotes with the 9v batteries. So light in fact that it feels rather cheap at first. You get past that feeling though and realize that this may just be a good quality remote control. I contribute the high price of this unit to the receiver, which IS INCLUDED in the package with the remote. I wish I could have just bought the sending unit only.
