Customer Questions & Answers

Water resistant?

Has anyone had any issues with water damage in the grooves? Similar flooring from the same company has reviewers claiming the grooves aren't laminated at all and any spill almost instantly damages their floor.
Asked by: Terah
Resistant, yes. Better than most I've installed. Apply silicon around the perimeter in wet areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and exterior entries. Make sure the edge is sealed all the way down to the subfloor. This includes at the toe kicks to the cabinets. I also apply a very thin amount of silicone to the bottom edge of baseboards and base shoe to help prevent spills from getting to the edge of the flooring. Another precaution I use is to use a very small amount in the seams between the boards directly in font of sinks and exterior doorway to resist spills. The last important instruction is to instruct my clients to not put potted plants on the floor, clean up any spills and pet urine immediately, and do not use liquid directly to clean the floor, instead lightly on a cloth. Dust regularly using a hardware floor duster (Swiffers are too wet) and Endust (never spray anything directly on the floor, just on cloth). Following these instructions will get one easily through the 45 or 50-year warranties that these laminates have. They wear incredibly well.

How dark is Clayton laminate?

Need to c more pictures. Thanks!
Asked by: Anonymous
Clayton Oak Laminate is a medium color, beautiful real wood look. However do not purchase this product, the snap connection is the worst. I thought the Mannington name brand would be good, I was wrong. Total frustration and returned my entire order after laying 7 rows about 18 feet long and could not get it to stay together. I installed Pergo previously and never had a problem, I will only use Pergo.

Had it installed two years ago in a 20' long living/dining area and a hallway. Wears like iron. Dog nails don't scratch it, neither does anything else. It looks absolutely beautiful, like hardwood - gives a studio quality to the apartment. I'm now pulling up the old, worn carpet in the bedrooms and installing this flooring. I had the installation done by a contractor, as this is not my skill.

Only time will tell, but it appears to resist moisture better than others I've installed. I still wouldn't want to test it. In all a very good value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Flooring Purchased this flooring for my entire house, 1600 sq ft rancher and had it installed by Home Depot sub-contractor. Exceptional quality for the price which was unbelievable and one of the most attractive laminate floors that I've seen. The color is a great choice especially if you have pets as it hides any dust or dirt. I just use a swiffer once a week to keep clean. Flooring was installed over concrete as well as a wood sub-floor with an underlayment and my house is exceptionally warmer this time of year than it was with carpet. The only issue that the installers encountered were the crooked walls in my house since it is an older home. This flooring is also textured which adds to the rustic charm and goes well with any decor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful laminate We saw the product online and it looked very nice. We went to our local Home Depot and got a sample of the laminate and it looked even better in person. The online price was about half compared to the store price (also was free shipping!) so we ordered it online. Received it in 4 business days on a pallet, wrapped securely. Carried into the house, let it sit of a week and had it installed by Home Depot. Really nice flooring, it has a very 'substantial' feel to it. Eight boards in a box so its not thin and cheap looking like some I've seen before. The installer told us, the product was some of the nicest he had installed and had very few damaged pieces. The finished product looks really nice and felt great while walking on it. We went with the 2-1 underlayment which the installer was glad we bought as it was what he preferred to use. You can hardly tell it's laminate and not real hardwood. I would highly recommend this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great. I agree that the locking tabs are difficult to master, but I found the secret. Tapping directly on the edge to lock with a mallet will damage the edge and make the next row not lock properly. To avoid this I screwed a scrap piece on to a plastic installation tool that came in a kit. I then locked that piece into the edge of the piece I was installing and tapped into place. No more damaged edges and it stayed together much better. I also used wood glue on a few stubborn pieces that had been damaged before I found the "trick". After over a year I have had no separated joints and the finish is still like new.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your time or money. Buy Pergo instead Purchased this for a new room addition. The planks would not stay locked together. The locking lips are undersized. When you get the second row done and start on the third, the second row keeps unlocking and separating. Had to return the entire shipment, Home Depot issued full credit. Replaced with Pergo and it worked beautifully.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great floors! After reading reviews about installation being difficult we were hesitant to buy but since we we loved the color and design so we purchased anyway. We acclimated the floors at least 3 to 7 days to the room and my husband had no problems putting them in. They look great and are very sturdy.
