Customer Questions & Answers

need to replace the globe

Asked by: Anonymous
Good Luck. I have 2 of these fans and the globe is hard to find. A weird screw in built in the glass with about a 4 3/4 opening. Not standard at all. I am so frustrated. They sell a replacement at HD for $18 but its the white frost and not the matching amber frost. My 2 are in the same room. I want them to match.

are the light and fan on separate switches?

can the light and fan be wired separately or do I need to control them with the pull chains?
Asked by: wondering
Thank you for your question. This fan has separate wires for the fan and light control, so you can wire it to separate switches. It is also compatible with Hampton Bay Universal ceiling fan remotes. You will need to use the pull chains for initial use, but once the fan is on, it can be controlled by switches or remote.

Courtney 42 in. Oil Rubbed Bronze Indoor Ceiling Fan is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 84.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good value but Globe Problems Easy set up, works good. Very dissapointed to find that Hapton Bay uses a proprietary globe fitting. Globes aren't available at home depot, or anywhere online that I can find. Only by calling specialized places where I'm told they may run $50 (almost what I paid for the fan). The worse part is the fitting design is terrible. By pulling the cord, you progressively put pressure on the globe, and twice it fell out of the fitting even though it was screwed in tight. Now I'm kinda hosed unless I pay a fortune for the globe. The special fitting also limits your design choices should you want to update looks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased! My husband and I purchased this fan with an open mind. We liked the looks of it, but it was the price that sold us on the fan. I was a little skeptical because it was so cheap but we are VERY pleased with the outcome of this fan. The airflow is perfect and there is only the noise of the airflow, not the sound of the motor. Also, with the light being more "yellow" I thought this would darken the room, but it gives off a nice soft, clean light. I would definately recommend this fan. I knew Hampton Bay was a nice brand, but I will not buy anything else in the future. Good luck!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great fan. Not so great if you break the globe though. I love this fan. When I bought my house, there were three small ceiling fans in the living room and they were all mismatched. I replaced all three with the Courtney fan. They look great, run well, and are very easy to install. My husband replaced all three in about an hour. The ONLY complaint I have about this fan is that it is near IMPOSSIBLE to replace the globe. We broke the globe on one of the fans about six months ago. We gave up trying to get a replacement and just installed a whole new fan. Now another one got broken accidentally last night. I am cringing at the thought of going through that process again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Design The globe fitting is terrible. The chains are not designed well either as when you pull on them the whole fan moves. This caused my globe to fall out and shatter within the first hour of having it. I contacted home depot who put me through to Hampton bay's parts department, it would cost 28 dollars to have it replaced and there is nobody else that manufactures a globe that would fit this design. I opted to not purchase another as it was half the price of the whole fan, and I can't be sure if it will fall out again or not.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy this fan The fan works great. It is pretty. The globe is the problem. The fittings on this globe are NOT universal. Home Depot does not sell a replacement globe. You must call warranty service to get the replacement. The globe has been on back-order for months. They keep telling me, "We expect them by the end of next month." When next month rolls around, the story is the same. I realize you are reading both good and bad reviews. The globe fitting is horrible. Do not buy this fan. If you ever break the globe, you'll regret buying the fan.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ugly Lightshade, but love the rest of it. I'm returning this, because the lightshade does not look like it is pictured on the box or online. The glass shade looks like someone took white paint and splattered it. I love the rest of the fan, but can't get past the lightshade. When the shade is over a light, it looks like there are dead flies laying in it because of the specks. :(

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Reminds me of my ex-wife... I love it but it frustrates the you-know-what out of me. The size is perfect for the 12 x 12 spare bedrooms that we installed them in. They installed in less than 20 minutes each. The airflow is perfect for the size of the room. Medium speed is perfect for the two north facing rooms that are constantly in the shade and the west facing rooms occasionally need a high speed to be comfortable. But again these are all now spare bedrooms so we don't have them on all of the time. Now the downside. The light covers have a fairly odd coating on them. My wife put it best. It looks like it's a frosted globe that was in the room while the drywaller was spraying texture. They look a bit odd. We've had the issues with the pull chains as well but we really don't change speeds often so that's more an inconvenience than an issue. Here however is the issue that makes me want to yank them down and replace them. The light covers work their way loose. The first time it happened the cover fell on a bed and was fine. The second time the cover fell and broke on the floor and despite the fact that we have tried to be diligent about checking the covers monthly yet another one worked its way loose again today. So the Courtney is all in all an OK fan but if you have the same experience we have you will some maintenance work to do. I'd probably recommend that you check the tightness on the light covers once a month. That's what we've tried to do and we virtually always find at least one is loose. All in all it's OK. Not doing cartwheells over the glass cover and plan on replacing at least one if you don't check them once a month. Personally I'd rather have screws holding them in place rather than the friction hold that this fan is designed with.
