Derry 32 in. Electric Fireplace in White-DISCONTINUED is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Flame effects look real Fire place came fully assembled in a well packaged box. Box is heavy and requires 2 people to lift. Only thing you have to do is install 4 wheels at the bottom to make it portable or attach it with mounting bracket (included) for permanent placement and to avoid tipping over (safety feature). Two wheels have locking mechanism (safety feature) and will be installed on the front side. Its size is great for bedrooms and home offices. I am taking full advantage of its mobility but where ever you use it, make sure that the fireplace front has a 36” clearance. Use of extension cord is strongly discouraged. Heat and flame light are controlled independently. I love this feature since I can just have the flame effects going while keeping the heat off when not needed. There are 5 heat settings that are controlled by single button. Each time the button is pressed, the intensity of heat becomes stronger. When the heat is ON, it blows hot air from the grill located at the bottom front of the fireplace. If you set the heat at highest speed, it causes the grill to become hot enough that it can certainly burn the skin if touched. The front glass however stays cool since its only purpose is show and tell. This fireplace also offers a locking mechanism to lock the Heat which I think is a great safety feature for households with toddlers. You press the power button for 10 seconds to lock it. Once locked, Heat feature becomes disabled. A 3 inch long remote comes with the fire place that adds convenience of turning on or off fireplace or the flame light while seated. I am enjoying its warmth and look forward to cold winter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for small areas Fireplace ships full assembled. This fireplace will work well in small areas. In open/wide rooms, you would not notice anything except the nice looking flame lights. Construction is great but finish is average. Air blow speed is static with 5 heat levels. The hottest is at 5. Control panel has 3 self-explanatory buttons that control the power, heat and flame light. Same 3 functions can also be controlled by included remote control. Remote is simple yet very practical when you are old and it’s hard for you to bend all the way down at the bottom of fireplace to turn on or off. My parents love the remote feature. Portability is 2nd great feature this fireplace offers. Wheels are not visible and work great on my wooden floor or carpet and are lock capable. It does come with hardware in case you decide to permanently secure it. The size is decent and the price is great. I am happy to own it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Attractive as well as functional The perfect electric fireplace for a bedroom. Adds a decorative touch, as well as extra warmth during colder weather. Adjustable, quiet heat is regulated by easy access controls. I love that the realistic "flames' can be on even when the heat is not. Optional wheels are included for portability; however, I chose to use the included hardware to fasten it to the wall for a more permanent year round installation. I anticipate lots of use during the years ahead.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute Fireplace, but the wheels stained my vinyl flooring! This is a cute little fireplace heater - perfect for a small area. You only need a space about 32" wide by 12" deep and it is about 26.5" tall. I chose the white model, and although my monitor was showing that the color was a bit greenish, it is not - it is a lovely cream color white which fits in very well in our dining area. It was very simple to install the castor wheels and I had it running in a few minutes. I did, however, have to remove the wheels after about 2 weeks -- the material of the wheels had left numerous yellow stains on my white vinyl congoleum flooring that can not be removed. So I would NOT recommend using these wheels if the fireplace is placed on such a surface, especially if it is light colored - you may wind up with damaged flooring too! Unfortunately, the top back corner was damaged, but that did not affect the operation of the fireplace and I could still share my opinion of it - I simply put a lace runner on top and it looks great. There was a very slight odor at first, as is expected for a new heating unit, but it did not last long at all. We do enjoy the relaxing flames as we dine! The logs have a very realistic and soothing flame effect (more than the gas fireplace we have in our living room!). It uses 2 40-watt bulbs, so it gives off a little heat even without the heat elements running. This fireplace is great for that little bit of extra heat to take the chill from a room. It seems to shut off at around 75 degrees, but I have no problem with this, as it is not intended to be a main heat source. Although the specs state that there is no blower, there appears to be a very slow-speed fan built into the heating unit. The fan is quiet and does not create much of a draft. The air blows out about a foot, and then rises. I like that the fireplace itself does not get hot to the touch and the top of it stays cool so I can place things on top without worry. The thermostat has five heat settings, but it would have been nice to know what the set temperature and wattage is for each one. I also would have liked to know more about the type of heating element it uses. Although the fireplace itself is enjoyable, I am very disappointed that my floor now has permanent yellow stains in the places where the castors had been even for a short time. I realize it was my fault for not knowing about this chemical reaction, but it would have been very helpful to have a hint in the manual about not placing these wheels on vinyl - along with those other warnings they give such as not taking into it bed with you, or letting it fall into a bathtub, etc.!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is exactly what I was looking for. The Derry 32 in Elec. fireplace works great. The heat is consistent and there is no threat of getting burnet if touched by a child or pet. The walnut stain matched prefectly with my furniture and presents like a good quality piece of furniture. I'm very pleased in the purchase and with the overall experience of ordering on line.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 70 degree maximum setting I purchased this from our local Home Depot earlier this week. The first unit was defective, but Home Depot gladly exchange it for another unit. Being that I'm in Atlanta, it hasn't gotten very cold yet. At first, I thought the second unit might also be defective since the heat would not cut on at the highest setting even though the room was only 70 degrees, but once I opened the windows to lower the temperature, it continued to run albeit only on the highest setting. I'll explain... I purchased this unit because it is thermostatic despite it having 5 unlabeled preset temperature levels. Basically, you set the temperature level, and the unit will cut on and cut off as necessary in order to maintain a particular temperature. Being that comparable units with the LED temperature display ranged from 62 to 82 degrees, I assumed the thermostat had a similar range. This is not the case. Let me be clear, this unit is just as powerful at the other units and could heat a room to a higher temperature than 70 degrees in the South if the thermostat would not cut it off. There is not an "always on" setting. Also, over time, it seems as though the the bulbs for the flame heat up the inside of the unit contributing to the thermostat's early cut off. For example, after it's been off for a while in a 70 degree room, the heater will cut on at the third temperature setting leading you to believe the thermostat will go up to 78 or so on the highest (fifth) setting. After running for about 5 mins though, the unit will not longer cut on at even the highest setting unless the room is under 70 degrees and it will cut off the moment it hits 70. Of course, I'm assuming all of this is by design. The first unit would never turn on, and this one only turns on if I open the windows in the middle of the night. Maybe this unit is defective as well - time will tell as it gets colder. As of now, I believe that, after the flame lamps heat up, the thermostat cuts the unit off at 70 degrees on the highest temperature setting. This should suffice for my needs, but if you like it warmer than 70 (and expect to get it in a small room even with a space heater because it is only 65 degrees outside), you may need something else. As far as the furniture portion is concerned, it seems well built. One of the holes for the castors on the second unit was stripped, but not enough to cause the wheel to fall out. The stain was not smeared or wet when opened, but the second unit smelled so strongly of stain it had to be placed in a separate room for two days to "air out." The first (defective) unit had neither of these issues. Flame is realistic, it looks great, appears to be very durable, and heats well (under 70 degrees). I'm excited about it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of junk heating system After five minutes of plugging it in, the heater relay would not stop clicking on and off. After 7 clicks or so, it would stop and the heater would turn off. After about an hour, I couldn't get the heater to turn back on. Amazing quality on the woodwork. If you're looking for something that produces heat, buy a cat. I've noticed cats generate more heat than a heater that doesn't work. I wonder how that happens... maybe there was a cat stuck inside the fireplace. Maybe I mistook the heater for a medium size cat's body heat and the thing never worked to begin with. Seriously though... know what generates more heat? Anything that isn't this heater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I see plenty of cozy fires this winter! I have been really missing a fireplace -- I haven't had one for a few years -- and this unit is perfect for the only space I had, under a window in my office/den. I don't expect the fireplace to take the place of a whole room heater, but it sure will make it feel warmer. I can't wait for cool weather; who can resist a fireplace's cozy atmosphere?
