Answer:
The metal accent connectors need a downrod. May be the fan can be installed close to the ceiling with a shorter downrod, but in that case the airflow will be reduced significantly and the fan will look awkward with holes on the top disk. I think it's better to buy a ceiling hugger fan for close-to-the-ceiling installations.

Answer:
Hi Donnie,
Yes, you would have to keep the downrod included, since the decorative piece above the housing must remain, that and there is no capability for the fan to be flush mounted.

Answer:
It should (if you meant 9' ceilings lol). According to the specifications, distance from ceiling to bottom of fan tip is 23.23" (less than 2'). It has a 10" down rod. Add a 3-4 inches more for the distance between the down rod end and the blade housing, and 3-4 inches for the blade housing itself, so you have 5-6 inches left from the end of blades to the tip. So for a 9' ceiling, the bottom tip would be around 7' (and the blades should be at least 7'-6" from the floor). According to many websites, the minimum clearance between the ceiling and the blades should be 8" (for maximum airflow - which this fan clearly satisfies), and the minimum clearance between the blades and the floor should be 7' (for safety). Hope it helps. Read Less

Answer:
The maximum wattage for each of the three bulbs is 40 watts candelabra. Having said that, you can find LED bulbs with only 8-13 watts each with brightness (lumens) equivalent to 40 watts (or more) incandescent bulbs.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 21 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Worth the Sale Price Pros: -Fan looks pretty nice installed(rubbed bronze model), especially compared to other fans of the same price point (when on sale @ $119 that is) -Runs very quiet; as for the other review that reported excessive noise, I would suppose there might be an issue with the fan itself, and suggest an exchange -Came well packaged from Home Depot, thanks -No wobble, very smooth Cons: -I expected more air flow; 54in blades and nearly 5200 cfm are not giving me the results I expected. I have it mounted in a large 20x20+ room, but the results have been lackluster -Some of the directions in the manual were not specifically clear, especially concerning the wiring. While google resolved my questions, it seems the existence of my newer home wiring setup is very much not uncommon, and left me bewildered how Hampton Bay could exclude such relevant and seemingly common information for installation purposes -Installation, this being my first ceiling fan install, wasn't a snap, but I did not follow the manual installation steps after my first two attempts. Installation was ridiculous, having you completely assemble the fan, then trying to lift it up and mount it, all while managing extra wires and an aesthetic canopy cover that left no room for the actual installation. If you do purchase this fan, I would assemble the fan as described, but before attaching to the ceiling, leave the scroll bracket and canopy cover loose, to hang down, so hanging from the ceiling is actually possible, and then tighten them up afterwards. Also, unless you are using an extra downrod, zip tie all the extra wire. -Overall I am reasonably satisfied, but not ecstatic. Basically, I am not unsatisfied enough to warrant the time and energy to pull it down, send it back, and purchase something else. I would not have paid the full price of $160, especially after finishing installation and testing it. At $119 however, its a good purchase. I hope this fan lasts a long time, I've had no issues with the other Hampton Bay fans I've used. September 22, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Metal on Metal Agreed. Installation is harder than most because the instructions aren't very detailed. So it leaves it up to you to figure out (based on pictures) where everything goes. After spending the time getting the blades installed, hanging on ceiling and wiring, I turn it on to find out that there is metal on metal contact with the fan on - its excruciating. The kind of excruciating when you hear nails on a chalkboard. I finally found that it was the blade housing that wasn't circular; after 30 minutes of tapping this housing to make it not touch, I was not successful. Now I have to return, and start my search for a fan all over again. August 16, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good but not best I installed 7 in total. 2 of them were defected when came in. One had a bad motor, the other had a bad switch. It took me a while to figure out which part was not working. I was able to get a good unit out of the two bad units. I think, I saved a fan for homedepot. I don't use the manual switches on the fan, so, the chains were redundant and look bad to me. I have to cut them. I had other fans, this was not the most quite one. The look is average, the price is not bad. Only good thing that motivated me to buy this fan was the lights. It had enough room for me to put in 3 CFL light bulb with 23W each. So, my room can be bright. October 5, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice-Looking, Heavy-Duty Fan-- Easy to Assemble Fairly easy to assemble.. ~ 1.5 hours, but I've had a fair amount of experience installing ceiling fans. As others have noted, the blades are VERY easily scratched, so you need to be very careful during that part of the installation. Fan looks very nice, and works very well. It is very heavy once installed, and mine rocks quite a bit on the highest speed. I'll need to use the enclosed balancing kit to see if I can't stabilize it a bit. Overall pleased with the purchase. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great Bought 3 of these fans, one for each of my boys' rooms for our new construction home. Two of them work perfectly, however one of them will not stop making clicking noises even after several adjustments. Would exchange it, but upon install, the electrician cracked the glass on the light and so we are just living with it right now. Overall, it is a nice looking fan and works great. September 10, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Blades pose a problem I purchased two of these fans. I agree with others that they look great. The problem I'm having with them is that some of the blades are flat while others are bowed. Due to the differences in the blades its impossible to get the fans to run without swaying. I tried using the balance kit however the kit starts off telling you the blades all must be the same distance from the ceiling. Due to the blade bowing to different degrees, it's impossible to get the blades even. June 23, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Happy with my purchase I am very pleased with my ceiling fan it looks so elegant in my living room compared to the old out dated one it replaced. I love the color and it is a beautiful fan for the price I paid. It is definitely worth the money. September 2, 2014
