I had purchased another fan at a competitor store (their comparable brand to Hampton Bay) and spent three hours installing and struggling to cram the remote receiver into a tiny space. After all that, it didn't work! I decided to try Home Depot's Hampton Bay brand instead and I'm so happy I did! Though it cost slightly more, the quality of this fan is far better. It was still a little challenging to install (I am a not-so-handy woman and this was the third fan I installed), but it was much easier than the fan I had purchased at the other store. The other reviewers are right that the directions are incorrect and refer to some colored wires that aren't there. But it is still easy to match the colors and connect the corresponding wires from the outlet to the receiver and then from the receiver to the fan. The only other part that I had an issue with was the canopy cover scratching the downrod as I was assembling it. It would have been nice if they had put some rubber around that. I placed some masking tape over the downrod when I realized it was getting scratched, and that also helped protect it when I was maneuvering it into the bracket on the ceiling. I was happy that the remotes could be programmed with different codes as I purchased two fans. The remote is also a great size and has distinguishable buttons for fan and light. I used 3M Command adhesive to stick the remote holder to the wall. I was surprised how nice the light colored side of the blades look with the brushed nickel. Compared to other fans I saw with reversible blades, this one has a very neutral and fairly realistic color of light wood (other fans in this price range had a light wood that looked too yellow and cheap, so you are stuck with the darker side). I had originally planned to use the dark side, but the light side was a very pretty next to my cream walls. The blades are supposed to be easy to put on, but you do have to pull on them really hard to get the locking mechanism to engage. I was a little nervous pulling so hard on particle board, but it was fine. One of the fans had the switch flipped to reverse from the factory, so make sure that your fan is going counterclockwise for summer and clockwise for winter. When I first turned them on I heard a couple of clicking sounds in the first 5 minutes, but it said in the directions to run the fan for 24 hours and there should not be any noise after that, which seems to be the case. Overall, I'm very happy with the fans. They are quiet, look beautiful, and really move the air.

The instructions for this fan gives many options. You must select the correct options for your installation. One note, it does not come with screws for holding the hanging bracket to the ceiling box. Either reuse the ones from your old fan ( I did ) or get the correct ones for your box. The instructions believe this is a completely new installation and assumes you have screws in the ceiling box. In most cases you will not. The wiring was simple and the remote works great. I changed the code in the remote and fan controller before I installed it to ensure no interference from any neighbors fans. It also does not come with a balancing kit. You may need one if it moves too much. Mine is right on the edge of needing balancing.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kyishia Love this fan!!!
The contractors helping with my home renovation installed this ceiling fan so I can't speak to how hard or easy the installation was but it looks amazing. I have been hesitating with putting a ceiling fan in my living room. I love the way it keeps my main floor of my townhouse cooler- I feel like I'm already saving on energy costs! Just bought another one for my bedroom!

I was having such a hard time finding a ceiling fan that I actually like, but I finally did! I like really bright light in my bedroom, so I replaced the bulbs it came with with daylight bulbs and it looks great! I have never had a fan without a pull chain, and I have to say I really like the remote. It looks sleek and makes my room feel bigger.
The fan also works well and moves a lot of air.
I had no problems installing it.

The instructions were very detailed and easy for me to follow. The fan pushes alot of air and is very quiet. There are 2 mounting options, flush mount, or mount it hanging down with the extension arm. I mounted it flush, it looks really good. They seemed to think of everything with this fan, they even have a hook on the mount so you don't have to hold the motor when you wire it up. I think I will put this fan in all the bedrooms of our house.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by R2D2 Beware of page 10 of the manual
I rated ease of installation as low as I could (they don't allow negative numbers). This is not because this fan is difficult to install, but because the Use and Care Guide stinks. Ok, not the whole thing, but page 10 cost me 2 hours of my life that I will never get back.
Avoid at all costs reading that page! It will unnecessarily confuse you. Instead, just look at the label pasted on the "Receiver" (part K on page 5) and follow it. It's simplicity itself.
Otherwise, this is a good looking, quiet fan at a very reasonable price.
Another hint: The fan will not turn until you have plugged in the light assembly. If you, like me, like to check your progress at every stage of the installation, this fact may save you some time.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JerryS Does Home Depot read their reviews?
It's a great looking fan, and made well enough. Not the highest quality, but still very good. However, they are the worst instructions I have ever read! And HD apparently doesn't read their reviews, or they just don't care if they waste their customer's time, as they haven't fixed the directions or added a supplement. So, if you are installing this yourself, ignore the electrical connections on Page 10. It's actually very simple = connect the black, white, and blue wires from the light kit(blue) and fan motor(black and white) to their corresponding colors on the receiver. Then connect the red coming from the receiver to your household "hot" wire(normally black), and the white coming from the receiver to your household white. All greens get wired to the neutral on your household.
Oh, they also don't tell you that you need to remove the rubber mounts from the motor, and that you need to connect the light kit for the fan to work(I had it hooked up correctly 3 times, but assumed something was wrong since the fan wouldn't start. SO, make sure you plug in light kit before testing. Good luck - and thanks HD for reading the reviews!
