Wall Switch

Can this fan be adapted with a wall switch to control fan and light?? Does Hampton Bay sell the switch?
Asked by: Anonymous
There are a few possibilities/options that you have. First, if you have 12/3 wire (a black/ red/ white wire, not including the ground wire (14/3 permissable if a 15 amp circuit) going from your switch to the mounting box on the ceiling, then you can have a switch with a dedicated Light toggle and Fan toggle, so you can control each separately. They are sold at home depot and are generally in the $25 range.. If you only have a 12/2 wire (14/2 if 15 amp) going to the mounting box, then you can either control the light and fan separately from the pull switch and you would use the light switch as a general power switch to the fan.... or... you can purchase something like a lutron maestro dual control combination switch. that switch includes a module you wire up to the ceiling fan itself (tucked away out of sight) and it works for people that have 12 or 14/2 wire and want separate controls. it actually looks so good and is designed so nicely i will be doing that and i have the required 12/3 wire for dedicated controls regardless. hope this helps

Can this be installed without the downrod?

If so, how does this affect the airflow?
Asked by: Dave
This fan can be installed without the down rod. The instructions show both ways to install. Very easy to install, and instructions are easy to follow.

Took almost two months, with no notice of back order, then cancellations, lost product, etc. and a major delay with my contractor not to mention wasted time in my local store several days. Buy it if you find in store, don't bother to order. Major criticism installed is that the blades (teak/cherry) look cheap. I got three fans to use in a basement and they all seem to have a line down the middle of each blade, like the laminate was faulty. Neither side was any better than the other according to my contractor. It's no so noticable, but I notice it, so I guess you get what you pay for. And because I had them hooked up to dimmer switches in the wall, the bulbs that came with them had to be replaced with dimmable bulbs. (Also sure this is the color I ordered, think I got English Bronze?).

Loved them. Put the silver side down and it was just beautiful. Well that didn't last long. They have both been rusting since before last summer and keep getting worse. They still work and move air but they are very unsightly to look at. I would expect an outdoor fan to do better than this one.

I have installed fans before in other places we have lived. Also custom commercial cabinet builder. This fan is not very easy to install. The screws will not stick to a magnetic screw tip, making it more difficult than it should be. The light wiring very stiff and hard to work with. Guess it is the Chinese insulation.

This was just as pleasant/unpleasant an experience as any other. But it fits well, it's outdoors so I'm counting on it not to be droopy, and it doesn't have the dingly dangly lights that I really hate. Old, old, home screenporch--fits in well. Installed in a home for sale approx 1 month ago.

There are 8 fans in the gathering space that keep the air moving giving a comfortable breeze. The fans run quietly and without wobble. The light fixture is easy to clean and sealed well so bugs will not collect inside the the lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good I installed two on my porch. I live in Austin, TX, and my porch faces directly west, so we shall see how these fans withstand the heat, humidity, and sun. So far, they are great--a huge improvement. I hope the blades can survive without becoming droopy. Hopeful.
