Answer:
I have had laminate flooring (smooth) style in my kitchen for 7 yrs now and I have not had a problem with it getting wet. If something does spill I just wipe it up. I have 4 dogs and 3 grandkids. I love my laminate flooring. I think that if you take good care of your floor then it shouldn't be a problem. I have a sub-floor, meaning plywood under my laminate flooring with padding.

This is not waterproof and will expand if exposed to water for very long. We were advised to use a different product in laundry/kitchen.

Answer:
This product is not waterproof but can be installed in a basement (moisture barrier underlayment is required).
When installing product in a wet area such as a bathroom, it is best to seal the joints during installation by applying a small bead of water repellant sealant to the top of the tongue. Once the flooring has been installed, seal the expansion space with the water repellant sealant also.

To prevent damage, take precautions to prevent unnecessary moisture flooring from staying in contact with the flooring. Wipe up spills/splashes, do not allow damp/wet things (towels/mats/clothes) to sit on the flooring, and use an exhaust fan to allow excessive humidity to escape. For a basement it may be prudent to carefully monitor and control humidity levels. Read Less

Answer:
Truthfully no, but I do recommend you buy the tools separately. My husband looked at the installation kit and the tools in them were just not as sturdy as the ones you can buy separately. Due to the large number of square feet we put down we are very happy we bought separately.

I spoke with a HD employee that was encouraging me to go ahead and refinish our hardwoods if possible before laying laminate, which I totally agree if we could would be ideal. BUT, it's not looking like refinishing is an option with the damage our floors have.

I need something durable and have been told that regardless of what reviews may say, laminate scratches very easily. But these reviews are very convincing... so... can anyone answer definitively for me? Will it hold up to my dog & kiddos?

I have 4 dogs, two dobermans and two rat terriers and 3 grandkids, I build houses for a living and I would put laminate flooring before hardwood any day. In my personal/professional opinion go ahead and put the laminate. I have seen what dogs can do to real hardwood floors. good luck.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 46 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Completely Happy We had about 1500 square feet of flooring to replace and knew we wanted to do away with carpet. I found this product and after reading all the good reviews I thought we would give it a try. So we ordered a box and seen how it would look in the "lights" of our home. We ended up loving it and installing it everywhere but the bathrooms, kitchen and laundry area. We have loved it. We have had it down for a few months now and it looks fantastic. It looks as though we paid four times more that what we actually did. My only complaint is that when ordering any single boxes they came in with quite a few damaged, but none were from the pallets we ordered. We had very little waste and after you find your "rhythm" the floor goes down very quickly. I am attaching some of our photos, excuse the mess where we were moving things from 1 room to the next to do all the rooms. May 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good purchase. This laminate flooring is beautiful! Installation was a little hard due to crushed corners and we had a few unusable pieces due to damage on the snap together parts. But for the price we paid at .99 cents a square foot we were pretty happy. And the finished product looks SO nice! I would recommend this product to people with patience...it takes some time to get the pieces together! :) Purchased twice: First we updated our bathroom and laundry room. Second time we purchased for our spare bedroom. They all look fabulous! April 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than expected! Floor was easy to install. Durability of laminate has been amazing. No scratches from the dog running and sliding on it. No spot stains from water drops on the flooring. Product is worth every penny. Looks great. May 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Laminate flooring The flooring is a good value and blends excellently in my home. The only down side was in the shipping. When they said the product had already arrived, it didn't mean to my house. Thus there was doubt about what had happened to my flooring. I did receive it several days later. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I LOVE THIS FLOOR!!! My husband and I installed this floor ourselves in Feb. We love it , its changed the look of our kitchen. It cleans up so nice. I just use my hard wood attachment on my shark vacuum and a damp microfiber mop. I have a large dog and two children, no scratches yet. We're planning on putting this thru the whole house. Such a great product for the price. April 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great look, easy installation easy to install. looks fantastic. did about 1700 sq ft total. loved it so much used it to create my kitchen backsplash. see photos November 11, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product. Installed 650 square feet. The product requires some tapping into final placement but stays locked. There was minimal waist. I also used the doorway trim sold for this flooring. My installation required the following tools: Flooring installation kit, long nose metal shears, hammer, chalk line, rafter square, sheet rock square, laminate hand saw / miter box, jig saw, all available at Home Depot.. After establishing a 1/4" expansion chalk line I used screws driven into the subfloor to maintain the 1/4" while the floor was being installed. Removed the screws from the subfloor after installation. May 31, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Love ! We recently put this flooring down in 3 rooms (570 sq ft) of our home. It is beautiful ! It was not as easy to install as some reviews states. It definitely takes 2 people. Overall we are very pleasedpleased with the look. We also had no damaged pieces in our boxes which is a huge plus. February 25, 2016
