The pull chain switch needs to be replaced. You can order the replacement light kit, Hampton Bay item 206118304, for around fifteen dollars, or fix it yourself with a higher quality chain switch for about ten bucks. This is a fairly straightforward repair if you are comfortable with electrical. If you installed the fan yourself originally, you'll have no problems with this.

- Purchase this replacement switch: Gardner Bender Model # GSW-31
- Purchase some lamp thread extenders such as Westinghouse Model # 7015000
- Purchase one thread coupling such as Westinghouse Model # 7016200
- If you don't already have them, purchase a few small orange wire nuts.
- Turn off electric to the circuit that serves the fan and light
- Remove the glass shade covering the light bulbs
- Remove bulbs
- Remove the entire light kit. There are I believe three screws holding it to the fan body, and a couple of wires that plug into the main fan body.
- Now that you have the light kit by itself, unscrew the little cup shaped thing where the pull chain for the light comes out. I think it's held on by a little nut recessed way down in the cup.
- The switch itself should be free to pull out of the bottom of the light kit now. Snip the two wires going to the switch right where they exit the switch.
- Strip about 1/2" of insulation off the wires you cut from the old switch. Fasten those to the new switch using wire nuts.
- Put the threads from the new switch through the bottom of the light kit and through that cup-thingy, and fasten it together with the original nut.
- I believe the threads coming off of the new switch are not as long as the old ones were. At this point, use the coupling you bought to fasten a section of the new thread adapters onto the end of the threads coming out of the new switch so that it closely matches the length of the original switch threads (I hope that makes sense).
- From here on, assembly is the reverse of removal.

The pull chain for the fan broke off from inside the mechanism. I now have no way of turning on the lights without the fan coming on at full speed, or of changing the fan speed. Is there any way to fix this?

LED Bulbs?

This question is from Hawkins 44 in. Tarnished Bronze Ceiling Fan
Asked by

June 24, 2016
Has anyone been able to find an LED light bulb that fits in this fan?
So far, all the options I have tried are too large and are preventing the installation of the glass cover.
Any recommendations for a manufacturer and model would be much appreciated.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 530 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not the best fan This ceiling fan I had about a year and I have had a lot of trouble with this fan. The first problem was that the chain got stuck when I pulled the light chain and I had to fix that and the light is not bright at all but the air amount is really good but if your looking for a fan with a lot of light then I wouldn't recommend it to you June 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hampton bay fan Have this fan Hampton bay Hawkins ceiling fan blows a really good amount of air but the light kit isn't the best and my chain got stuck through the bowl light kit and had to get another pull chain . I would recommend it if u had some can lights or another light . But if u want more light this fan I would recommend to u to get. June 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great fan for the money This is a great fan for a small room and the price was great. June 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Outdated lighting technology The fan portion of this unit provides good performance. But the documentation with the fan indicates that the candelabra base on the lighting unit only supports incandescent bulbs. No product sold today should require incandescent bulbs, so the value rating and the overall rating cannot exceed one star. Bad judgement on the design, bad marketing for Home Depot. May 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do not buy it. Bought one year ago, recently decided to use pull chain ( the one located in the center and controls lighting ). Before was using wall switch for this task and maybe played couple times with chain at the beginning. Anyway, this time for some very "weird" reason, as I mentioned above, decided to use it again...well......that was not wise decision. Switch inside is broken - conclusion of electrician.$45 for replacement. More economical would be to buy a new one. If company does not want customer to use pull chain please instruct to do so. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Makes noise. Who designed this thing? I put so much work into installing this fan and it makes an annoying noise. This is an example of you get what you pay for. The installation design was not well thought out. It was a pain to install. May 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Absolute Garbage The biggest problem with a cheap product made in China is that the install costs more than the fan itself. We had this fan installed for maybe 2 months. The pull chain for the light stopped working. Which is the exact reason we had to replace the old one. Now I have to decide, do I spend hours trying to figure out how to open up the fan and install a new pull switch, or do we have it uninstalled and taken back to Home Depot and spend more money on a new install? We don't even use the light on the fan that often. Complete waste of time and money folks! Take the business elsewhere and save on multiple installs with cheap products made overseas. March 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cheaper at Home Depot than ebay or Amazon !! Great fan, lovely design and a super vale ! Three LED made plenty of light. Home depot was cheaper than Amazon and ebay and right down the street. Thanks again HomeDepot May 7, 2016
