Customer Questions & Answers

Fan works, but once the light cover is in place, you can not pull the fan chain to turn it off/on.

If you loosen the nut that hold on the cover, you can pull it a little but it still does not function as it should. Has anyone else found a solution to this problem?
Asked by: kaytay
just went thru the same thing. loosen the nut holding the glass all the way out to the end without taking it all the way off. then get on a ladder and look above the glass bowl and you will see a guide hole were the chain should be put thru.

How do you access the light bulbs to change them?

So far the only way I can reach the bulbs is to reach over the top of the globe which is extremely awkward. I don't seem to be able to remove the globe. Any help would be appreciated!
Asked by: Frustrated
If you have small hands you just reach over the glass. Otherwise you unscrew the cap screw at the bottom and remove the glass to replace them. It's not hard.

Can this fan be installed without using the light kit?

Asked by: Chazy
Yes. As long as you can follow the directions you can do it yourself.

The chain is easy to get caught in the fan innards before it goes through the hole in the frosted glass shade. I thought it was broken until I untangled the chain. Has worked fine since. It moves air well enough in the small room where we use it, and it is relatively quiet, no complaints there. It also looks nice -- suits the room. The biggest problem has been the lights. The three 40W candelabra bulbs are quite small for their wattage and burned out quickly. The only bulbs that size sold at the local store are nightlight replacements, about 7w (or the LED equivalent), which is not nearly enough light, or conventional candelabra bulbs, which are too large to fit in the housing. Replacement LED bulbs are available online, but it would be better to be able to get them locally from the place that sold us the fan...

Since I had to find someone to hang them for me and had to pay to have them hung, it put me past the 30 day return. Since they are in the same room. I now have to buy another one and pay someone to take down the old one and replace it with the new one. Poor workmanship has cost me a lot!!!!

It is extremely hard to install! The instructions are vague and actually had some parts that could have been done an easier way! It took forever to get it put up but once we did it's wonderful. Super quiet and the light is very mellow and restful!

Weak motor moves very little air even on high. The light kit is even worse, producing very dim light. It must be noted though that due to the federal requirement that fan lights use candelabra base bulbs, most fans are pretty dim, though brighter than this one.

Within six months, two of the chain pull light switches failed inside the light kit. I will say though that the Hampton Bay customer support team was EXTREMELY helpful with this. They are sending me three new light kits for this model free of charge, one as a spare in case I have another one fail. They will do this for you if you have your Home Depot receipt and they will ask you for your receipt number. Very professional and very courteous and sensitive to my frustrations. Despite the engineering flaws, they backed up their product!!

I installed this fan in my house about 7 years ago and I was very happy with the look of the fan and the quietness of the fan. This week, the fan just stopped working. The light still works, but the fan does nothing. I can pull the chain for the fan and the fan motor starts to make a slight humming noise, but it will no longer spin. So, after 7 years, the fan is now dead. My mother has Hunter brand fans in her house that are now approaching 40 years old and they still work. I guess I need to buy a Hunter.

Two years ago, I bought it and the pull string broke within 6 months. Today, my husband bought another one for our new house, not realizing it was the same one. There were no screws in the box and there was only one pull string instead of two. Since we live so far away from a Home Depot, my husband had to go purchase screws to complete the installations which was very difficult. And, now we'll have to go to Walmart to get a pull string.
