Answer:
Thank you for your question. We do not recommend installing 3 of these fans in series as the first in series would draw the most power and the other 2 would receive less power.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. This fan features a wall control that controls the fans speed including off. The fans direction is controlled by the reverse switch located under the coupler at the top of the motor housing. The fan will need to be wired to the house/building electric wires, it is not able to be plugged in to a ceiling mounted outlet.

The switch does not control fan direction (i.e. forward/reverse). To change direction there is a switch mounted inside the ceiling mount housing just above the fan itself. Requires a screwdriver to loosen the cover. Typical use has one changing the direction only twice per year - summer vs. winter operation.

I don't know why you would mount the switch on the ceiling, but you certainly could. I would think you would want easy access to it to turn the fan on and off and change the speed at any time. The switch is meant to mount in a normal electrical switch box the same as a light switch on the wall.
Note that the term "remote" is a slight misnomer in this case. There is no handheld remote for this fan - only the switch that gets wired in and mounted permanently.
Typical ceiling fan mounting is done with an electrical box designed specifically for ceiling fans. That special box is designed to carry the weight of the fan/motor and to withstand the forces due to fan rotation. They are readily available at Home Depot and other stores. The fan does not have a plug that you might plug into a ceiling mounted outlet. Instead, it gets hardwired into the wiring that you run into the special electrical box. Read Less

Answer:
Thank you for your question. Since the Industrial has 4 speeds, we would suggest ordering an exact replacement switch by calling customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678).

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 173 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job This 3 blade industrial looking ceiling fan lived up to my expectations. I live in the California desert and my garage temperatures reach 120 degrees in the summer. Not having a pre-wired fan outlet and no access to the attic, I chose to install a cord and power it from the AC outlet used by my garage door opener. I plugged the cord into a third party remote receiver and everything works fine. Only potential issue is that I have to ladder up to the fan to change the speed. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great amount of Air Circulation We put it in our Loft/entertainment room. Looks good and have amazing Air circulation. Really Fast, love it. One thing that if you want to change it from Forward to reverse circulation, you have to unscrew the cap and then get to the reversing button. Other fans have the button exposed which is easier, just get up the ladder n flip the switch but this one you need a screw driver. Noise level is ok. Not very quite but at that speed and air circulation, i expected it to have some sound. July 19, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by not happy with customer service and the switch my switch burnt out a speed shortly after purchasing this fan... I called customer service. after being put on hold and talking to a few different people they tell me its not the switch and tell me they are going to send out the part I need. I call back 2 weeks later after receiving nothing and call back again. they were apologetic and tell me something's coming out in the mail today. they send me out a part which isn't the correct one, the switch went bad, along with no paperwork for where this part is supposed to go. I am dreading calling back to try and get the switch I need that lost the low speed. fan looks awesome and would be great if functioned properly... December 12, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great fan. Moves a lot of air. Runs quietly Great deal. Arrived with a great speed control switch. I purchased the 18" down rod. Assembly was super quick and easy. Highly recommended. Delivery was 2 days. July 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by junk work well first 90 days then became very noisy motor July 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good looking fan Bought 2 of these to put in my 600 sq ft garage with 10' ceilings. Move a good amount of air and look good in a garage. Fan motor does seem to get really hot and one fan already had surface rust on the exterior. Speed controllers work good. Overall very satisfied with purchase. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hampton Bay Industrial Fan The contemporary stying looks good. Great air output. June 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Met All My Requirements Very efficient blade design - rather than a flat paddle it's an airfoil shape with greater chord and pitch at the root than at the tip which is just as it should be for most efficiency. Speed control mounts in a standard switch box and has excellent range of speeds - lowest speed produces a minimum airflow while highest speed blows papers around on the floor 11 feet below in my installation. The two speeds in between the min and max offer all the adjustment I need. The "industrial" style and lack of a light are perfect for my application which is in a large workshop with 12 foot ceiling and extensive lighting. I installed 3 of these fans and all worked out fine with no issues. Installation instructions have some mistakes but not too hard to figure out. That's the only reason I rated quality and ease of installation as Good rather than Excellent. December 15, 2015
