We just bought this fan in the store ...nowhere on the box did it say anything about ceiling height or needing a 10ft clearance. Came online to order 1 more and now I see this info online. is it necessary to have a 10ft clearance or not?

Answer:
I've had 3 of these in two locations. One location was a loft, so that's not relevant here. The other location is in a residential 8-ft ceiling room with a short rod. It's a powerful machine, potentially with high blade speed, so just be reasonable and careful. If your ceiling is low-ish, never use the higher speeds (but you wouldn't want to anyway because of the power of the air flow).

Answer:
Due to the high RPMs this fan produces and the industrial design of the fan, UL requires a blade clearance of 10ft from the floor to the ceiling to ensure safety. Installing this fan closer to the ground increases the chance of something coming in contact with the blades and the potential for personal injury.

If you use a standard switch the fan will be at full speed all the time, but you can wire as many as fans as you want based off the switch power capacity which is 15A. I have 3 of them wired to 1 600W dimmer switch and they all work perfectly, the switch that comes with the fan is rated at 1.25A which is 1 fan and will not be able to provide enough amps to power more than 1 fan correctly. These fans move a lot of air and are wonderful in my garage. Read Less

I have successfully run multiple fans (different model) on this same type of wall controller, but don't seem to get the same range of speed as I do operating a single fan (they are slower).

Reading the review's this fan must have 10ft clearance between floor and the blades right?
I'm putting the fan center of my pool table is this ok? Now I have less then 8ft from top pool table to blades.
I'm Imaging the top of the pool table is now the floor, will this restrict the airflow or hurt the motor?

I do not recommend this fan over a pool table. It is a high CFM unit that is designed to be used in barns and warehouses. Buy a standard interior 52-56" five blade model with short down rod and option for ceiling hugger (if needed).

Answer:
Thank you for your question. The 10ft clearance requirement is more for safe operation than airflow. The industrial label and design require 10ft of clearance for safe operation to make sure nothing comes in contact with the blades. The airflow will not be affected by having it above the pool table.

I doubt these fans come in smaller sizes and I do not recommend an industrial fan for the house. The extra air flow is designed for large areas. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it! Love this item. Is the best fan you can buy for you. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 8 years and counting!! Seriously, I've had this "commercial" ceiling fan installed in my contemporary home over a vaulted stairway and running 24/7 for the past 8 years [no exaggeration]... with NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER!! If you don't need a light [we have skylights], you'd be a fool not to invest in this fan!! March 31, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good air movement This is exactly what I needed. In spite of the recommendation it have a minimum of 10' clearance, I put it in my bedroom, and am quite happy with it. Contrary to another reviewer, I don't find that the air movement on the highest most powerful setting is too much to ever use. During the middle of the summer when we have 100+ degree days that's exactly what I need to keep the temp in the room cool enough, especially when I'm exercising in the corner of the bedroom and sweating. However, I certainly don't sleep with the ceiling fan on anything but the lowest setting. I did not like the fact that you have to use a screwdriver to remove the bell housing to reverse the fan direction, so before I installed it I drilled a 1/2" hole in the bell housing so I could reverse the direction without having to remove it. I like the fact that the fan motor has a lifetime warranty. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Ceiling fan I ever purchased! At first I wasn't to crazy about the style as they were pretty modern for my western decor. After they were installed they really don't look that bad. These fans move a lot of air, price is excellent compared to other fans that move about the same CFM's. They were easy to assemble & install. I have replaced 13 fans with this fan and the difference is amazing! The average temperature in July was 108 and I was running 3 A/C's and now we are running 1 or 2. I am anxious to see my next electric bill! August 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dependable fan for machine shop I purchased and installed 5 of these fans in my machine shop in 2005. We use them almost every day and they still provide quiet air circulation with no issues. We are currently adding a new building so I went with 9 of the same fan. Sleek, quiet and easy to clean. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great fan for a great room. I purchased this fan for a 2 story great room that measures 22'x20'. I had an existing 4' down rod from a previous fan and used it in conjunction with this new purchase. The fan is roughly 12' from the floor and on high it will blow papers off the desk in the kitchen. It's noisy but I'm OK with that as it moves a lot of air. The wall switch has 4 settings, low, med, high and extra high. On Low and Med. you hear a slight hum from the motor but it's not distracting or louder than a newer fridge. I would certainly recommend this to anyone in need of a ceiling fan only, no light kit is available. The only complaint that I have is the plastic wall switch feels and looks cheap. Right now it's doing the job but I plan to replace it with something more in line with the rest of the house switches. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Fan! This fan puts out more air than any fan we've ever had!! August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Attractive and efficient This fan looks modern and produces a gentle or a tremendous airflow. The airflow is much greater than other fans that we have owned. We particularly like the fact that it does not look clunky like many ceiling fans do. Both of the fans that we purchased were perfectly balanced. I highly recommend them. August 5, 2016
