this small fixture puts out alot of light...but not comfortable if shining in your eyes directly..I wall mounted mine to light interior of closets....at eye level...to bright ..so I bounced lights off ceiling...worked great...ample light to see with.

Each of the four LED heads provides 200 lumens, for a total of 800 lumens, about the equivalent of a 60-watt incandescent bulb. IMO, this would not be sufficient as the sole source of light for a medium kitchen. (In my own medium kitchen, my main light is a fan light combo that uses three 40-watt equivalent bulbs, and I needed additional task lighting.)

(In my own medium kitchen, my main light is a fan light combo that uses three 40-watt equivalent bulbs, and I needed additional task lighting.)
I installed this fixture over my kitchen sink, and the amount of light seemed excellent as a task light. However, even though I liked certain features of this light (the amount of light, the adjustable light heads, the style and size of the fixture), I ended up returning it because it wouldn't hang straight, and replacement LED bulbs are not available. (I just posted a detailed review, but it may not be visible yet.) Read Less

The ability to direct each light will easily help light a medium size room. I have mine in a large 15x20 room.

I wouldn't recommend this for an entire kitchen, on it's own. More for over counter or accent lighting, as the light heads are moveable and give flexibility for directional lighting arrangements., as I found with my dining table. You can put the light where you want or need it..

I have this fixture in a bath. It would do a great job above the sink, but not to light up an entire room.

These are not LED bulbs. Our installation was over the sink area. More lights would be needed to light an entire kitchen, unless it was quite small.

To use LEDs on a dimmer, you need two things:
1) LED bulbs that are rated as dimmable. Many LEDs, especially older ones, are not dimmable. If the packaging or product literature doesn't say that they're dimmable, assume that they're not.
2) An LED-compatible dimmer switch. If a dmmer switch is not rated LED-compatible, it probably won't work.

The product description for this product doesn't say that the lights are dimmable, but if you open the link for the production installation guide, the installation guide clearly states:
Dimmer Compatibility
This product can be dimmed down to 5% of the full scale using a standard two-wire dimmer.
It also gives a list of compatible dimmers from three of the top dimmer manufacturers, but there are undoubtedly more by now.
So, worst-case scenario would be that you'll have to change out your old dimmer switch for an LED-compatible one, a DIY job for most reasonably handy people. Read Less

I returned mine before installation because I found a different style that worked better in my kitchen. However, since the lamps are LED, it shouldn't give off much heat at all. That's one major advantage of LEDs over incandescents, halogens, and compact fluorescents. (The most important advanatage of LEDs is obviously energy savings.) If you're concerned about heat, definitely go with LEDs.
