How do I install this item?

I am not a novice. I have built, wired, and installed light fixtures in two houses, a pottery studio, and a barn/workshop; including Hampton Bay track lighting with floating power feeds. The instructions on this product are poorly written, with questionable terminology.

For white track:

How do I mount the white plate (mounting plate according to the instructions) without silver screw heads showing?

What is the purpose of all the raised areas on the upper? side of the mounting plate?

Why do the instructions show the mounting plate holes in an orientation that would put the plate 45 degrees out of line with the way most tracks are mounted?

This is apparently the WORST product I have ever purchased from Home Depot and it is only 130 miles round trip to the nearest Home Depot store so I can switch to a floating power feed.

If you can answer my questions, I'll keep this product, but I can't fathom any rational response you can give.

In 10 minutes, I could design a far superior product.

Hey there,
I'm a lighting associate at my store in Atlanta, so I've had knowledge of this and track lighting systems for the 13+years I've worked in my stores.
This track feed was designed to be installed at the end of the track (obviously its name) over a junction box or connected to conduit via the end 1/2" knockout.
It comes in either black or white for the cover. Since it isn't a floating feed connector, this piece must be connected to the end, using either the black or white connector.
I haven't seen the instructions (since I'm not at the store at the moment), but I've never heard of this 45 degree alignment you speak of....it must be snapped in with the track itself. A silver screw head should still be showing.
As to use it, you can opt for returning (I realize it is a distance to your store), but you can trade it for a floating feed, or simply purchase one online here. That way, it will give you freedom to give you more installation options.
If you install it on the end of the track, and it is a Hampton Bay/Lithonia Lighting or similar designed track, this end feed should work for you.
Apologies if your results are less than satisfactory.

Rated 1.8 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Awful Design This is a terrible, awful design. They make you drill holes in the plate which have to be perfect for a square fit. They don't provide screws for the plate - really!! They say it is for white or black but the full cover only comes in black. So if you want to use the full plate cover for a white track you will need to spray paint it it white. This is border line dishonest advertising. We are taking ALL the Hampton Bay tracks and parts back and finding another track design to use. This is one of the worst designs I have ever seen! Avoid if you have a choice. June 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by No trouble Okay after reading the reviews I was nervous after selecting this brand for my track lighting. I purchased the track lighting online as the bronze didn't come in the store. Well the only problem I had was I couldn't find the cover plates in bronze. We purchased the black and you can hardly tell as the bronze is a dark brown. We bought four of them and my husband had no trouble installing them. He didn't need the white plate as we don't have new installation we have existing track lighting. It screwed right in over the track and covered the hole where the electric came in the ceiling. Honestly the only trouble we had the one box was missing the black screw so he used the white one and we got out the sharpie! October 21, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Stupid company After installing the track and lights, I discovered the company sells track, lights, and covers in white, but does not sell black end covers. Even tho the box is labeled black and white. July 22, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by also buy some spray paint if going white Agree this design is poor for same reasons stated by the other review. (note the "floating" version does not have the same flawed design as this "end" version) I chose to use flat-white spray-paint to make the black cover white, and ditched the bottom-plate and small cover altogether (the track holds the connector against the electrical feed). Don't forget to also paint the little screw for securing the cover. (I painted the black screw instead of the bare-metal one, since it already was painted, i.e. primed.) Result looks great with no lifting of the track at the connector-end. Giving it a poor so they fix the design, or at least begin supplying a white cover. April 8, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Design I'm amazed that there hasn't been any design improvements. Does not sit flush against the ceiling, I guess I'll have to paint the black cover white to hide the hole from the mounting plate to the connector that is very visible. Hampton Bay, Please design a better unit for future buyers of this product. April 17, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hampton Bay is of lower quality than most track components Junk. Does not come with enough hardware to install it. September 2, 2014
