Can we use different light shades other than ones provided?

I liked some of the other colors and shapes in 2.25 inch light shades I have seen in the store, and online. Would any fit well? I did notice that opening is only 2 inches wide on this particular model, and now I worry that that I could get stuck with shades that were provided with this fan, but I am not very excited about their look all. Are these original Lyndhurst shade universal fit and size, or not? Would any other light shade type/size fit? Many thanks
Asked by: LillyEmily
They say you can use different shades as long as they are the same thickness.

The only issue I have with the item is that after installation a couple of the CFL bulbs that came with the unit do not work properly. The do not come on when the light is turned on unless I tighten or loosen the bulb. I can't tell if it is the bulbs or the sockets they screw into. I am reluctant to tighten too much because the bulbs are fragile to tighten. I am wondering if I can bring the bulbs to HD for exchange. If it turns out to be the sockets, that will be a different problem.

It is DEAD. The lights work but the fan doesn't. I have had it less than three years. The fan I have replaced lasted longer 23 years not three. I cannot recommend. In my opinion bad quality control. However, Hampton Bay customer service hopefully will help. Who knows.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Value This fan was very easy to install. It looks great in the space and moves a lot of air even on medium. Had to switch from updraft to downdraft, as it came in updraft mode from the factory.

My challenge with this product is there are so many parts that you need to install or remove to install. My fault for not reading the step by step instructions, but I install lots of fans as I am a manager/maintenance man for 27 unit apt. building. After awhile you tend to know the steps needed to install the fan. With this one, if you didn't remove a screw at this point of the install, you could not do so later on, or a piece had to go in at this step. With other fan kits, you can do steps a little later which make installation so much easier and faster. I would think twice before I purchase another one of these. The end result doesn't pay off with the labor and time to install.

Going to add a universal remote and call it a day. The fan is OK, 3 speeds and it does what it should do without any buzzing in the switch or from the unit itself. The lights ( 4 bulbs x 60 watts each) put out 240 watts, it's bright enough that you can really see....believe that you can ACTUALLY SEE! The bulbs are the energy saving ones, so they take a moment to reach 100% of their brightness.
