I generally regard the Hampton Bay brand as being "cheap," but as I was installing this fan, I started to re-think my idea of this brand. The first thing that impressed me was a little note in the package with a phone number and a website saying that if anything is broken or missing, "call us first," and they will promptly ship out replacement parts for free. That seemed like a manufacturer standing behind their product. As I unwrapped the pieces, I was surprised at the quality - metal parts, real rubber washers and grommets, decent quality wood, and included CFL bulbs, and a solid feeling fan component. It even comes with a blade balancer kit (which I did not need). For the price, I was thinking this was really good stuff! As I assembled the pieces, I noticed the attention to detail in the design. In particular, I really appreciated the little hook so you can assemble the wire nuts without an assistant holding the fan mid-air! I was so impressed because I've been installing all these other fixtures, and fumbling with the fixture in one hand, and the wires and nuts in the other. They really put a lot of attention to detail in the design and it shows. It took me over an hour to install (at a relaxed pace). This is partly because I did not read the instructions carefully, and had to redo parts - like forgetting to put on the collar that hides the screws from view. I appreciated the fact that the fan had a simple switch to change directions - and instructions for which direction you want for warming/cooling. Finally, I appreciated that they had a detailed fan-sizing chart on the outside of the box, which prevented us from accidentally getting a fan that was too small for our room (we see now that the one we originally had in mind would have been too small, but thanks to the chart, we got the right size the first time around). Also, they have a chart that details power consumption vs CFMs. A really quality product with lots of attention to detail.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by SelfInstaller Neat. Quiet.
This is a very quiet fan, I donât remember if the box indicated that, at any speed. It moves the air in the room that it is in. This is 12 X 10 foot room. I absolutely like the lighting, Very bright. It came with light bulbs, a plus. The fan has been installed over a month ago, and runs about 16 hours a day. It came with a 3 and 6 inch extension for it to hang lower. I did not use that, no problem with that installation. Like the look and brightness of the lighting. Great buy.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Cookie The biggest pain in the neck to put together!
We have bought Hampton Bay ceiling fans before and never had the problems we had this time trying to put the fan together. There were too many wires to put the light casing together. We had a hard time getting it to closed without the wires hitting the top and making noises. Then trying to attach the fan blades was a misery. They were very hard to install. The little groove lined up but trying to put the screws in to keep the blades in place was a horror story. Then once the blades are in and they seem like they're in fine, the fan wobbles and you find that the blades loosened. I am tempted to take it apart and send it back, but I am too aggravated at this point. A word of advice, don't buy this model!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by DK67 Nice looking and quiet so far.
It was relatively easy to install. The directions weren't great, but you won't have any problems if you've ever done a fan before. First time installers, you might want to put on a pot of coffee on (and maybe get some Irish cream).

Rated 1 out of 5Â by gatorlca DO NOT BUY if you have high ceilings
I cannot hang my fan becuase Home Depot does not have Hampton Bay downrods. I was told a Hunter downrod would work however the hole that mounts the ground wire is a different size, the Hunter is threaded and the HB one is not, and the whites are different (obviously).
How can you sell fans that are your own house brand but not offer downrods for higher ceilings. Even online, Home Depot doesn't offer downrods for Hampton Bay fans.
I will be returning it for a Hunter if I cannot get the downrod to work with this fan which is unfortunate because it's looks like a decent fan
