Thank you for your question. The Marlowe fan can be installed to a standard on/off switch only. You can wire the light wire directly to a dimmer switch, but the fan's stepped can not be controlled by a dimmer type switch. Wiring the light to a dimmer would require bypassing the remote's receiver and render the light control on the remote obsolete. You would also need to install dimmable bulbs. The other Read More

The other option is to bypass the remote altogether and wire the fans speed wire to a wall mounted variable speed control - not a dimmer. Read Less

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in the Marlowe fan. The remote controls the fan's 3 speeds - High, medium, and low, as well as the lights on & off. The fan and light can be operated independently.

Two Fans, One Room

What if I were installing two of these fans in one room, large room, vaulted ceiling--what would be the best way to control the fans? Would the two different remotes interfere with one another? Would one remote control both fans? How could we wire the fans to be controlled by a wall switch? I was thinking of just mounting the remote control near the seating areas the fan will be located in (large room, one side will have TV area type seating, the other side will have a dining table type seating arrangement). Thoughts?

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in the Marlowe fans. There are a couple of options. Depending on the room size, yes, one remote could control both fans. We do not recommend installing this way because the fans could get out of sync due to distance from remote to each fan (for example: if you are closer to one fan and turn it on high speed, the other may not receive the signal if it is too far away). We do not recommend installing this way because the fans could get out of sync due to distance from remote to each fan (for example: if you are closer to one fan and turn it on high speed, the other may not receive the signal if it is too far away). We would suggest having 2 separate remote controls for the fans. The remotes will not interfere with each other if the dip switches in the remote and receiver are set to unique settings. Dip switch setting instructions are included with the manual. As far as wiring both to a single wall switch, it can be done, but you should consult with a licensed electrician on how to do so. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Nice looking, but..... Ordered two when on sale. Received in a few days. Had electrician come out next day, put together easily. But, neither came with remote or sensor for fan. Very odd. I would think one maybe, but both we ordered were missing.?.? Not sure if it was perhaps a batch of fans that were missing remotes, or what the problem was. Called to order new ones. (Even the nice lady said it was odd, almost not believing it) Now have to wait 7-10 days for them and also pay electrician an additional fee to come out again!! Fan does look nice, even though it's not up, but not happy with having to pay electricians fee twice!! October 1, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A solid purchase, but need additional parts for vaulted ceilings. Love these fans, we initially bought them for the *Pine* look on the blades. Which ultimately doesn't look like any pine I've seen, it actually matches our red oak floors better than pine. We installed two in our master bedroom and they look great. They are quiet and create quite a bit of wind on the high level. A couple of things you should know when installing these, if you have a vaulted ceiling, you will need to get additional parts. You will need a longer downrod, the downrod that comes with these is only about 6" long. Along with a downrod, you will also need to get additional parts to allow to hang from the angled ceiling. Home depot has these, but we found the best one is from Lowes. These additional parts allowed us to hang from the ceiling and have the downrod not rub against the main part it hangs from on the ceiling. Once we got these things figured out, we were very pleased with the product. August 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk stuff DO NOT BUY THIS FAN!!! It's been giving problems right from day 1 after I installed it. First the receiver inside the fan stopped working. I called customer care and they sent a replacement. However there are no instructions on how to install it. I had to pay $50 to the handyman to replace the receiver. Now the remote stopped working. Changed the remote battery just to see if battery is causing the problem. I will NEVER buy a fan from Hampton Bay again. September 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bedroom fan Great fan, totally silent compared to other fans I have had. Easy installation. Looks good and keeps the bedroom cool. October 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very happy with purchase The ceiling fan is well made and looks very nice. A perfect blend of rustic and modern. As with other reviewers experiences the wires are crazy long and my husband needed to trim them. Other than that installation was easy. The light comes with 2 light bulbs that have a warm tone. Doesn't put out a ton of light so I think I will need a higher wattage for my dining room. On the positive it also doesn't use a ton of energy like our old ceiling fan. Circulates air nicely. Love the remote option. Would definitely recommend. April 21, 2015
