Answer:
Yes, you must use a fan rated wall switch that has "stepped" fan speed controls. Basically a wall switch that has speed selections 1-3.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 38 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Dull Fan Light Looks ok. Remote works well. Good air flow. Lighting is horrible. Very dull. New pkg came with a burnt out bulb. Would have returned if it wasn't so much work to take back down. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice for a large bedroom Fan was pretty easy to install. Still smooth and quiet operation after a full month of use June 7, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Difficult to install; not very good lighting This ceiling fan looks good......if you can get in installed. We have installed many ceiling fans over the years, and this one took several hours to get it completely installed. The light quality is very poor, it is not bright at all. Don't bother with it. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Looks nice when installed but poorly made All of the parts are very susceptible to scratches the moment you take everything out of the box. I installed on a sloped ceiling and was very disappointed that the instructions didn't explain which way the ceiling box should be angled. Additionally, for an angled installation it's fitting the wireless receiver along with the other wires is VERY tight. I agree with most other reviews that the lights aren't very bright. I think Hampton Bays is a Home Depot only brand. Not happy with their support, their installation videos or the limited hours for tech support. I've bought Hunter and Hampton Bays. I will only buy Hunter going forward. November 3, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice looking but not very bright light This is a nice looking fan although a little bulky. Definitely want it in a larger room. The light is not very bright at all even though the amps are decent. I think the type of glass casing may make it appear less bright. It does dim which is nice but additional light will probably be needed. August 11, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice looking but very low light output This is a good looking and good quality fan. It has a high flow output and cools our room down. The only problem is that the light output from the three 40 watt candelabra bulbs is much too low. It is barely enough to light the room. We have had to add an additional two lights just to have enough light in the room. If light isn't a big deal then this fan will blow you away. July 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Absolute Junk, But Looks Good I would NOT recommend this fan. It looks great, but is of very poor quality. I have purchased and installed 2 of these fans, in hopes that the first fan was just a fluke. The first and most important problem is with the motor. It gives off a hum that I can hear from the other room. If this is how sounds brand new, think of how loud it will be after a few years. (both fans I purchased did this) This should NOT be the case with a fan that costs close to $200. Second, the fan is not balanced so it wobbles. Even after trying the wobble correction kit, I couldn't get it to be still. Finally, installation is pretty easy, except for attaching the fan blades. April 29, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good but not great This is a good looking fan and has great air movement but the light output is very low. It has three low wattage candelabra lights that don't put out enough light for a standard room. I purchased three LED lights that put out more light and now it's okay but still not great. This fan/light needs to be in a room with high ceilings above 8 feet because the light is directed straight down and does not go outward into the room. June 21, 2016
