Customer Questions & Answers

Is it safe to use the fire pit on a deck?

Asked by: aeb430
I believe there was a paper in the box saying not to use it on a deck or near flammable material. I guess you could use it, but if there's a fire, no recourse to manufacturer and possibly an excuse for the insurance company not to pay?

Are these chairs too short to fit around a dining room table. Do they always lean back, making eating a meal difficult?

Asked by: jenna
I wouldnt put these chairs inside at a table as they are a little bulky since they are made more for comfort and relaxing than eating a full meal.

convert to a table?

Does the firepit convert to just a regular table top?
Asked by: ChristinaF
Yes it does, it comes with a screen raised cover for when in use as a fire pit, and a flat solid cover which covers the pit and allows use as a full sized table.

how do you light the firepit

Asked by: linda
You should use a few pieces of crumpled newspaper with some smaller pieces of wood on top to get it going, and then start using larger wood once you've got it going.

Marywood 5-Piece Patio Fire Pit Chatting Set with Brown Cushions is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Campfire Comfort I had been looking for a good fire pit patio set for a while, and this one seemed to be a pretty good option. I have another Hampton Bay patio set, and I'm more than satisfied with it, so I figured I would stick with the brand. It arrived in two big boxes - one 50 lb box for the table and another 125 lb box for the chairs. Everything was packed very securely so no rubbing wear would occur between pieces. All the hardware comes in blister packs, so you don't have to worry about lost pieces. An allen wrench for assembly is also included with each set of hardware. The table/fire pit: Assembling the table was a breeze. There are only 6 parts that need to be fastened together: the top, four legs, and the leg brace. I assembled it according to instructions, first loosely tightening the bolts until all of them were in place, and then snugging them all down twice over. Once finished, the table was still a little bit wobbly. It's sturdy enough that I'm not worried about it falling over or coming apart, but the play is still there. This could have been remedied by fastening the legs to the top with two bolts and the brace to the legs with one, instead of the other way around (see picture). I was impressed by how nice the table looks, and pleasantly surprised to find that it comes with a flat insert for converting it from a fire pit to a regular table. There's a grate for the bottom of the fire pit that holds logs about an inch from the bottom in order to allow air circulation underneath. A sturdy fire poker is included that's great for moving heavy logs around. A screen is also included to keep embers from flying out of the fire. It's about the height of an average coffee table, with enough room in the center for a decent sized fire (no more than two or three logs though). The finish has an oil-rubbed bronze look to it, except for the actual fire pit insert, which is a matte black. A small bottle of touch-up paint is also included with the table. One of my biggest concerns was that the finish of the table would be discolored after a fire, but after one fire I couldn't tell any difference in the finish at all. Something else I noticed was that the fire pit insert was only spot welded together rather than being a continuous bead. This keeps water from puddling in the bottom, but I'm a little worried it won't hold up as well in the long term with lots of heavy logs placed in it. The chairs: The chairs were easy to assemble, with only four screws each. However, the brackets for bolting the bottom of the seat to the frame seemed to be welded on at random offsets. All of them kind of fit except for one, which was welded so far back that the bolt could not reach all the way (see picture). I ended up having to go buy a $2 pack of 3/4" 1/4x20 stainless screws to finish assembling that one, since the original hardware was only 5/8" long. It wasn't a huge hassle, but I had to spend the time and gas to go pick up extra hardware that doesn't match the finish of the rest of the set. Hampton Bay needs to have the workers assembling these use a template when welding the brackets on, or they need to increase quality control measures. The chairs come with a 250 lb weight limit sticker on them, and I can't remember if that was included in the specs on the box or not. The springy/rocking feature is nice, but anyone under 150 lbs isn't going to get them rocking very much unless they really throw their weight into it. The cushions make the chairs really comfortable, and they seem to be coated with some type of water resistance. No telling how long that will last, but it's held up for several weeks so far. The bottom cushions have hook-and-loop fasteners to keep them on the chairs. However, the backrest pillows and the lumbar pillows don't have any type of tie-downs, and they've ended up strewn across the backyard after several moderate windstorms. It would be nice if the backrest pillows at least had some sort of way to fasten them to the chair frame.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Fire Pit Set Pictures don't really do this set justice. Despite all the really cold weather lately, I've been sitting in my backyard as much as possible. It's just that nice! The set was delivered via freight shipper. The chairs were in one box and the fire pit in another. Everything was very well packed. The chairs are two pieces that you have to assemble. The fire pit has a number of pieces. Each chair and the fire pit comes with its own hardware (screws, hex wrench, and screw covers). You even get touch up paint. The age bronze finish looks great and the cushions are super thick. The spring chairs allow you to almost rock in the chair. The fire pit doubles as a table but honestly the border around the fire pit is large enough to hold drinks or plates even when the fire is going. The pillows, chairs, and fire pit are all very easy to clean. I love how the fire pit tray just lifts out making it easy to empty the ashes. There is only one thing I would change. The cushions you sit on have Velcro straps but the backs do not. It's probably not an issue for most but I get a lot of wind in my back yard which equals pillows on the ground. At any rate this Hampton Bay Set is a great addition to our backyard living space. I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Firepit Comforts I put this beautiful fire pit set together in my spare bedroom because it is winter here in Flint, MI and I didn't want to wait to see how it looked and felt. This fire pit table is like a large end table that you can put your drinks and snacks on with no problem. The table is extremely sturdy and the cover to the fire pit is very attractive. The main reason I wanted this set is when we get out of the pool in the evening, we can sit at the table and warm up with the fire and have a nice glass of wine and roast a few marshmellows and hot dogs in the fire as well, while we dry off. The cushions on the chairs are extremely comfortable. They have a sort of bounce in them instead of them being solid and stiff, so to speak. The added pillows are adorable. Although this set matches my outdoor dining set, I have a feeling we will be eating and socializing at this fire pit most of the time now. P.S. The fire pit table is very heavy so it will take 2 people to move it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice patio set that keeps you warm Assembly was easy and quick. The only issue I had was that I had to do a little mix and match to get a couple of the seat parts to line up. The metal parts aren't precise, so the screw mounts are in a slightly bit different position on each piece. Once assembled, everything was solid and worked as expected. Two of the chairs were crooked, tilted to the side. It looks odd, but you can't tell they're crooked once you sit down. The cushions are simply polyester batting inside a zippered fabric shell. This is good, since it's easy to wash. They are fairly thick and pretty comfortable. The chairs themselves are huge, and I like that. Lots of space to move around or lay back. I was concerned that the light weight aluminum would collapse, but I've bounced on them more than I should (hey it's fun!) and they have held up so far. The table/firebox is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. There's plenty of space on the edge to set your mug of hot chocolate or coffee, or a small plate. The fire 'pit' itself is a sheet steel box consisting of five separate pieces (four sides and the bottom) spot welded together. I'm a little concerned about how the heat will affect the spot welds, but so far it's held up fine. The wood grate does rest against the 'side' pieces however and doesn't put any pressure on the bottom, so I feel a little better about that. The box hangs below the table and it gets hot - gotta watch your feet! But as a bonus that heat from the box helps because the whole thing puts out a decent amount of usable heat. Overall a very nice patio set, and it makes it much more fun and comfortable to be out on the patio on those cooler nights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My neighbors want it! I (a 30 year old stay at home mom) put it together myself with no problem. We had our neighbors over and everyone was complimenting it that "oh my gosh you could fall asleep in these chairs", "the chair are like lazy boy chairs", "I love the color!" We wanted something comfy, good looking, rocker type chairs with a fire pit table that had enough edge on it for drinks/small plates and we got it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it, but.... The fire pit/table came in one box, the chairs in another. One of the boxes was shipped separate and caused a delay in delivery time. I put the table together first which couldn't have been more simple and easily done with one person. Looks great, good quality, that part i love. But.... when i opened the box with the chairs, cushions, etc. i was disappointed to find out they had left the hardware, screws, washers, allen key, etc. out of the box. So now im stuck with a table and chair parts laying around it. When i contacted HomeDepot, they told me to allow 2 weeks for the hardware to arrive, which was not what i wanted to hear after the original delivery was late as well. I had hoped to use this for the remainder of the summer, but if the hardware does take 2 weeks, looks like ill only get about 6 weeks of use out of it this year. Overall, great product for the price, but taking a star off due to shipping and hardware problems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great looking Patio Fire set Was looking for a patio set with cushions and saw this which had a fire pit and it immediately looked functional and useful. It was delivered in 2 huge shipments, one of which did not even fit thru our front door, so had to unpack all boxes outside the house and bring the parts individually to the patio. All the parts are provided and instructions are simple to understand, but the assembly is anything but simple. You need 2 people, preferably 3, as the screws need to be perfectly aligned and straight and should freely rotate, otherwise you could easily strip the nut and the joint becomes loose and may damage the furniture. So be very careful and undo & redo again if needed. The wrench provided is also too small and the holes for screws are in odd places to be easily reached. But once all parts are put together, the product looked fantastic. The cushions were good and were even nicer in color than the pictures. The chairs & tables are made of wrought iron, and are not heavy. The chairs have a slight swing in them, so you could sit back and relax and swing it a bit also. The table has a fire pit which is deep enough, with a grill and holes in the bottom for water to drain off (in case it collects in the pit). When you are not using the fire pit, you can cover it with a flat cover, which is really useful, as it then makes the table completely flat and you can keep stuff on to it, without the fear of things falling off. So its good that there is no incline or slant on table top. I have not got a chance to use the fire pit yet, but come winters, and that's the first thing I'll do. They even provide a iron rake / rod sorta thingie (dont know what its actually called) to poke the fire logs :) Overall, i feel its an excellent product and looks really nice in my backyard. The only pain was installing it and I wish it came with covers also to protect it :)
