Answer:
I believe there was a paper in the box saying not to use it on a deck or near flammable material. I guess you could use it, but if there's a fire, no recourse to manufacturer and possibly an excuse for the insurance company not to pay?

Are these chairs too short to fit around a dining room table. Do they always lean back, making eating a meal difficult?

Answer:
I wouldnt put these chairs inside at a table as they are a little bulky since they are made more for comfort and relaxing than eating a full meal.

Answer:
I don't think that they would make good diining chairs. They don't really lean back, but the sears are deep enough it's more like you're sitting on a couch rather than a dining chair. They are super comfortable for just sitting around the backyard though!

Yes it does, it comes with a screen raised cover for when in use as a fire pit, and a flat solid cover which covers the pit and allows use as a full sized table.

Yes, a flat insert is provided. It can also be stored on the table brace underneath the fire pit when you've got a fire burning. See my review for pictures.

Answer:
You should use a few pieces of crumpled newspaper with some smaller pieces of wood on top to get it going, and then start using larger wood once you've got it going.

Remember to practice good fire safety even though the fire pit should keep everything controlled. Keep a bucket of water nearby and don't leave the fire unattended. Read Less

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 16 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Quality Easy to Assemble A very nice quality set, easy to assemble, I used a ratchet and the appropriate hex bit to speed up the process . The plastic screw covers were tricky to snap on - tapping with a hammer didn't work , I finally used a screwdriver handle to push down with and that was the ticket. December 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Fire Pit Set Pictures don't really do this set justice. Despite all the really cold weather lately, I've been sitting in my backyard as much as possible. It's just that nice! The set was delivered via freight shipper. The chairs were in one box and the fire pit in another. Everything was very well packed. The chairs are two pieces that you have to assemble. The fire pit has a number of pieces. Each chair and the fire pit comes with its own hardware (screws, hex wrench, and screw covers). You even get touch up paint. The age bronze finish looks great and the cushions are super thick. The spring chairs allow you to almost rock in the chair. The fire pit doubles as a table but honestly the border around the fire pit is large enough to hold drinks or plates even when the fire is going. The pillows, chairs, and fire pit are all very easy to clean. I love how the fire pit tray just lifts out making it easy to empty the ashes. There is only one thing I would change. The cushions you sit on have Velcro straps but the backs do not. It's probably not an issue for most but I get a lot of wind in my back yard which equals pillows on the ground. At any rate this Hampton Bay Set is a great addition to our backyard living space. I highly recommend. February 3, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Campfire Comfort I had been looking for a good fire pit patio set for a while, and this one seemed to be a pretty good option. I have another Hampton Bay patio set, and I'm more than satisfied with it, so I figured I would stick with the brand. It arrived in two big boxes - one 50 lb box for the table and another 125 lb box for the chairs. Everything was packed very securely so no rubbing wear would occur between pieces. All the hardware comes in blister packs, so you don't have to worry about lost pieces. An allen wrench for assembly is also included with each set of hardware. The table/fire pit: Assembling the table was a breeze. There are only 6 parts that need to be fastened together: the top, four legs, and the leg brace. I assembled it according to instructions, first loosely tightening the bolts until all of them were in place, and then snugging them all down twice over. Once finished, the table was still a little bit wobbly. It's sturdy enough that I'm not worried about it falling over or coming apart, but the play is still there. This could have been remedied by fastening the legs to the top with two bolts and the brace to the legs with one, instead of the other way around (see picture). I was impressed by how nice the table looks, and pleasantly surprised to find that it comes with a flat insert for converting it from a fire pit to a regular table. There's a grate for the bottom of the fire pit that holds logs about an inch from the bottom in order to allow air circulation underneath. A sturdy fire poker is included that's great for moving heavy logs around. A screen is also included to keep embers from flying out of the fire. It's about the height of an average coffee table, with enough room in the center for a decent sized fire (no more than two or three logs though). The finish has an oil-rubbed bronze look to it, except for the actual fire pit insert, which is a matte black. A small bottle of touch-up paint is also included with the table. One of my biggest concerns was that the finish of the table would be discolored after a fire, but after one fire I couldn't tell any difference in the finish at all. Something else I noticed was that the fire pit insert was only spot welded together rather than being a continuous bead. This keeps water from puddling in the bottom, but I'm a little worried it won't hold up as well in the long term with lots of heavy logs placed in it. The chairs: The chairs were easy to assemble, with only four screws each. However, the brackets for bolting the bottom of the seat to the frame seemed to be welded on at random offsets. All of them kind of fit except for one, which was welded so far back that the bolt could not reach all the way (see picture). I ended up having to go buy a $2 pack of 3/4" 1/4x20 stainless screws to finish assembling that one, since the original hardware was only 5/8" long. It wasn't a huge hassle, but I had to spend the time and gas to go pick up extra hardware that doesn't match the finish of the rest of the set. Hampton Bay needs to have the workers assembling these use a template when welding the brackets on, or they need to increase quality control measures. The chairs come with a 250 lb weight limit sticker on them, and I can't remember if that was included in the specs on the box or not. The springy/rocking feature is nice, but anyone under 150 lbs isn't going to get them rocking very much unless they really throw their weight into it. The cushions make the chairs really comfortable, and they seem to be coated with some type of water resistance. No telling how long that will last, but it's held up for several weeks so far. The bottom cushions have hook-and-loop fasteners to keep them on the chairs. However, the backrest pillows and the lumbar pillows don't have any type of tie-downs, and they've ended up strewn across the backyard after several moderate windstorms. It would be nice if the backrest pillows at least had some sort of way to fasten them to the chair frame. February 8, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hampton Bay Marywood Firepit Set The table goes together like it had eyes not one problem, all parts were there and packaged to avoid damage The chairs are another matter, once again all the parts were there and well packaged to avoid damage. The problem with assembly is that the brackets on the seat bottom are welded to far from the outside edge, which makes it impossible to get the seat sides and the base rails to come together, some bases wouldn't go with some seats so had to juggle them around to get the best match. Other than this one small easily corrected (at the factory) problem I am very please with the unit. I will follow up if any problems arise. July 14, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good overall Product came short one back cushion. Have contacted Home Depot. Have not heard back. Overall no issues with putting chairs and fire pit together. Looking forward to using this summer. April 14, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product, Design Needs Attention, Still Waiting for Hardware I bought this online on special offer, so I got it for a good price. I chose in store pickup, which worked very well with my travel schedule. Product ordering, shipment and delivery were all very well executed. Assembly was a different story. One of the chairs was hard to put together because the bolt holes did not line up. The bolts also seem a little short: keeping my fingers crossed that they won't drop off and cause someone to fall out of the chair. The chairs are larger than I anticipated and nice to look at. Aluminium construction makes them easy to move around. The cushions are comfortable. The fire pit is sitting waiting to be assembled. It was delivered without hardware and instructions, and I have been told by HD that it usually takes about two weeks to get 'replacement' parts. The vendor apparently has 3 days or so to look at a request and then another few days to communicate how/when they will get the parts out. It's been a week now and I am still waiting for someone to contact me. We are looking forward to enjoying out patio furniture in the evenings: it should make a nice relaxation spot. Hopefully we will be able to do so soon. March 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My neighbors want it! I (a 30 year old stay at home mom) put it together myself with no problem. We had our neighbors over and everyone was complimenting it that "oh my gosh you could fall asleep in these chairs", "the chair are like lazy boy chairs", "I love the color!" We wanted something comfy, good looking, rocker type chairs with a fire pit table that had enough edge on it for drinks/small plates and we got it! December 23, 2014
