I previously purchased this same brand's ceiling fans, but one step lower on the price and quality, and it failed to work; the electrical was bad. When I returned it, I decided to take the next step up on my fan for another $10. It was absolutely worth the extra $10 to get the fan that works. The design of the fan has been improved, so it's even easier to install. It took me less than an hour to install, which included removing my other light I was replacing. This fan is great in my 10x10 office, and is strong enough to blow my office papers around, and definitely keep everything cool. I'd buy this same fan over and over because of the low price, great look and ease of installation.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jetrod Low price, quiet at highest speed, low light
I've installed quite a few Hampton Bay ceiling fans as well as other brands. I was amazed at how easy this one was to install. With one exception, the bracket that mounts to the ceiling box does not have mounting hardware included. The slots on the bracket are wider than any screw that normally fits into an electrical box so you have to use washers (also not included).
Other than that, this fan performs well. It is quiet at the highest speed. It cools down my 8'x 8' bedroom. The fan didn't need to be balanced either. The 40 watt limitation on the light is a bit low for my tastes, but I like a lot of light. The low price seals the deal.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by sbfrost What an awful project
Our kitchen fan needed to be replaced. So we chose an attractive looking fan and picked it up at the Home Depot in Danbury.
The wiring instructions (and wiring is something I would deem to be VERY important) were incorrect. It took two of us several hours to figure out what the wiring configuration should be. During this procedure we did contact the customer service number and the rep said many of these fans have been returned for similar reasons.
At several points we were tempted to just throw it all back into the box and return it for a credit.
The mounting instructions were also incorrect and the pictures did not accurately depict what the actual equipment looked like.
Now that it is installed it is working fine and looks fine but I certainly wouldn't buy another one of these.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jonny Easy to install, attractive and inexpensive
I was very impressed at the easy installation tools this fan provided. Hanging hook, shroud, plenty of screws and nuts. For the price this was an excellent choice. Have run it every day since installing and it makes no noise and does not vibrate. This fan did not require balancing.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by cediger Very nice fan
Very nice fan, installed it in a house built in 1890 with the old cloth wiring. Once I figured out the copper wire was the hot wire it was downhill from there.
My 2 knocks on the fan:
The high fan speed is not as fast as expected, but it is ok.
Installing the fan blades could be easier, the bolts are at an odd angle as I was hoping to get a cordless drill to install the bolts.
Overall was an easy install... only wished I had 3 hands a couple of times.
Sidenote: some of the reviews said it was a loud or noisy fan, seems nice and quiet to me.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Consultant Good fan but has an unusual size downrod, so you can't extend it.
This is a good fan "as is" but it's only good if intend to mount it as is and close to the ceiling. If you need to install a ceiling fan down-rod to lower the fan unit away from ceiling fixtures, etc. you can't, because this fan has an unusually small down-rod that no one has. Even Home Depot doesn't carry that small of a down-rod and there's nothing on the box or the advertising that tells you about the odd size down-rod.
