Answer:
Thank you for your interest in the Midili fan. This fan has an AC motor. In general, most of the fans sold by The Home Depot are AC motor fans. If the description does not specifically call out a DC motor, it issue to assume that the motor is AC. Also, please note that the DC motor fans do not require any special wiring or installation methods. They install exactly like an AC motor fan.

Swapping out with old fan and adding the remote sensor is a pain

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in the Midili fan. This fan does not have a pull chain option. But, if you are swapping out a fan and doing a complete install, wiring the remote receiver is a simple task. The only other option would be to install the fan using a variable speed wall control.

Answer:
This model is actually operated by pull chains. I installed mine using a 3-speed wall slide switch. I don't really like using the remote.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 344 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Fan Easier to assemble and install than any I've had before with the exception of the remote control. There really isn't enough room for the remote control box to fit in the housing, very difficult to get it and the wires to all fit in the space provided. If they'd designed it with more space for the remote unit, would have given it 5 stars. Otherwise, very nice looking fan and works well. April 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice fan, good price This is an attractive Art Deco-ish style fan. Very nice for the price. We put these in the kids bedrooms. Only advice is don't put the round globe on too tight when you assemble it. I changed to LED bulb and had trouble getting the globe off. If you do have trouble getting the globe get two people and have one hold the down bar from the ceiling while the other removes the globe. This is minor and can probably be avoided by not tightening the globe so much on assemble. Minus this I would have given it 5 stars. August 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Who wrote these directions (Aug 2016) Don't bother reading the directions, steps are poorly articulated when not skipped all together. I will not but any more fans from Hampton Bay. To those who work at Hampton Bay, please put this fan together by using the directions provided. Your product is sub-par, please improve it and do some quality assurance checks. August 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by You can dim it. Good fan, for the price. If you can't dim it, hold the dimmer button at least 15 seconds August 13, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Difficult installation; faulty unit I would not recommend this fan due to a difficult installation with poorly written instructions. You're left to figure out most of it yourself in terms of how everything fits. Hint: make sure to try fitting the bulky remote receiver first before doing any actual wiring so you can figure out a wiring strategy...the bulky remote receiver is an extremely tight fit. After the difficult and time-consuming install, the fan ended up not working (only the lights worked). I've installed three other fans with no problems. So in the end, I had to disassemble, re-pack everything and bring it back to HomeDepot. I'll be spending a little extra money and getting one that is known to install easier. June 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by FAN-tastic! We purchased 3 of these fans about a week ago. Had to exchange 1 unit because the fan motor only hummed. Installed in 2 bedrooms and family room. These units are extremely quiet while delivering 3 comfortable speeds. Installation was a breeze for our handyman. The light isnt very bright but solved that with a 60 watt equivalent DAYLIGHT CFL bulb. The only problem we have experienced is with one of the remotes... The 9v battery slides slightly in its compartment and has shifted the dip switch setting. It took a few minutes to figure out why our family room remote was controlling a bedroom fan. June 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ceiling fan 44 in Midili Great product but it is very, very dificult to install. I had a helper and even he was baffled on how to get the remote control installed it the place recommended. It would not fit and had to be placed in the ceiling away from the fan. This makes the remote work perfectly. I don't know how to get the remote installed as per instructions. It is just too large to fit where instructed. I love the fan but would not buy one with a remote again until it can be made small enough to fit. July 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Remote Control Fan/Hardest Install Ever! I would still recommend this product, but only if you have the time to work harder on the installation. We installed it ourselves and we have installed many fans before, this one was by far the hardest. It took us 3 times as long as it would normally. It seems that the wires have to fit into such a small space for the install. Other than that, we love it, we would recommend it; especially for the price. We are just not going to remove it and install anywhere else. :) July 12, 2016
