Is there a way to operate top and bottom lights individually?

I am thinking about buying this fan. But I have read that you either have both lights on, or both off. Can I switch the top lights on without the bottom...or vice versa? Otherwise, not sure what's the point in having 2 sets.

Answer:
They are either both on or both off. They will both dim at the same rate too. I was hoping they would be independent but they are not.

Nope, they work in unison. You cannot control them independently. I was hoping for the same thing.

Hi OxfordGirl. Thank you for your interest in the Minorca fan. The light for this fan is either all on or all off. The light kit is dimmable. The newer version of this fan is the Home Decorators Collection Chardonnay fan (currently only available in brushed nickel). That fan's light kit operates the uplight and downlight independently via the remote control.

Answer:
If you didn't change it on the fan part, the default for the 4 dip switches is all on. (that was the default in the remote too) If you changed them on the fan part & remote when you installed it, you'll need to take a ring off, unscrew 2 screws & twist off the dome thing that covers wiring. You might be able to see what the fan is set to & then match that to the remote.

Answer:
Hi Dave. The remote code is set by the dip switches in the battery compartment of the remote. You can set the switches to any setting and then set the switches in the receiver to match. The remote and receiver are shipped with all dip switches in the up position.

Replacing some existing hardwired fans with lights and do not want to use the remote that comes with this fan and light system. Will purchase 5 fans if we can bypass the remote receiver and hardwire the fans?

Answer:
NO. That is the reason I wanted it so I wouldn't have to run wires down plaster walls. This thing is a bear to install though. The fishing walls would have been easier.

Answer:
Hi Rev46. You can bypass the remote as long as you use separate switches for the lights and fan speed control. Please note that we do not recommend using one switch to control multiple fans.

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 122 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One Great Ceiling Fan This looks absolutely fantastic in the library of our new home. The fan was absolutely the easiest I have ever installed and, once in place, I didn't even have to balance the unit. It ran perfectly with no fan wobble even at the highest speed. My wife especially likes the upper and lower lights on this particular fan. We are considering additional units of the same fan as replacements in two of our bedrooms. We really like this product and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a really attractive, easy to install ceiling fan. August 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Finally found a fan I love! We were looking for a replacement fan for our dining room. We knew we wanted one with some character but we didn't want to break the bank. This fan perfectly fit the bill. We were very pleased with the quality. My husband installed it with ease. The fan is quiet and looks amazing. It is a real plus to have a remote control. Love the fact that the light also has a open top on the globe to bounce light off the ceiling. Would definently recommend this fan. August 26, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Problem Remote receiver went out after only a couple of months of operation. Now, trying to hunt for replacement. March 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice and Quiet We purchased this fan to replace an existing fan. The picture is a bit misleading. The glass parts are not as "yellowish" as pictured. They are more a dull yellow and the blades are not as rich brown as pictured. But, it's a very nice fan nonetheless. One thing I do not like about the fan is the candelabra lights required in the lower light portion can be see through the dull yellow glass vs just seeing illumination. I won't be using the lights for anything significant, so it's okay. However, if you're looking to use the lights regularly, just be aware of that. The remote works very well and with a nice distance for operation. We had a professional electrician install this fan, so I'm guessing installation wasn't an issue. October 26, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by No remote function for reverse feature I had this fan installed by my handyman due to the 17' height of my living room ceiling. Looks and works great, but not having a reverse feature on the remote would have been a deal breaker for me, had I known. Why have a remote that doesn't operate all functions? Imagine if TV manufacturers included a remote that didn't have a "channel up" button. At the very least, the item description should clearly state "manual reverse", for those who don't mind getting up on a ladder and reaching into the motor housing via the upper light, to reverse the fan direction. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great value I would definitely recommend this ceiling fan/light. It made our room look very elegant. Low voltage light bulbs so dim lighting. Causes nice breeze. Only thing I would say negative is that I wish it was a little more powerful. However, the issue could be because we have Cathedral ceiling so that may be what the problem is. Remote works great too. Still really love the look and can't really beat the price for the quality. Very happy with the purchase! September 15, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Elegant and Functional Too! Recently purchased two of these fans and we are greatly satisfied. Quality is good they were easy to install and run quietly. Only disappointment is I wanted to purchase (3) three more and they are not available. Disappointing that no one seems to know if or when they will be available. So I hope I'm not stuck with two fans that I can't match. Hope for the best I guess is the best attitude. All in all I still love the fans! SED in California. September 15, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice fan It took my husband awhile to change out this fan but admittedly he is not an electrician. The control box that goes inside was a very snug fit and he could only get it after a call to the manufacturer. The remote works great (which is why we bought it). The only negative I have is on the dimmer...you have to turn it all the up or all the way down to set it (depending on which way you were last heading). I'd prefer if there was a "dimmer down" or "dimmer up" button. September 1, 2015
