Customer Questions & Answers

The rim and finial tip appear blue on the picture, is it blue in tone?

Asked by: Mother
I actually thought it was matte dark-brown, but I just shined a flashlight on it and it's actually almost black. It does look a bit blue in the pic, but it's probably a very dark brown with a lot of black. The black may have blue tones in the pigment, but that would only show under the flash condition in which they took the pic.

Can I use my wall dimmer for this?

Can I use my wall dimmer for this?
Asked by: Shelby
This fixture does not include bulbs so that depends on the bulbs you use. (Some LED bulbs are not dimmable by all dimmers)

Is this a LED light fixture that puts out a bright light?

Asked by: JAKE
That depends on the bulbs you use. With 2 60W-equivalent-luminance LED bulbs it is quite bright.

Just purchased it and relating a heads-up: The placement of the canopy screw holes in the mounting strap is poorly designed. In my case those holes are blocked when the strap is attached to the outlet box so the canopy screws can not be screwed into the strap far enough so that the canopy is held to the ceiling. The only solution I found was to put nuts on the canopy screws so that the nuts are tightened and hold the canopy in place rather than the screw heads. This solution required enlarging (filing) the screw holes in the canopy so that the nuts can pass through them. A lot of work and experimentation that could have been avoided by a better fixture design in the first place! BTW the good thing about this fixture is that it is simple and uses standard replaceable LED bulbs. It replaced a fixture with a permanent LED light plate that went blinky after 2 months.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Spend a bit more for something better... This fixture looks nice once installed but there was much swearing to get it there. My husband installed this last night in a hallway. I was considering buying another for the front door entryway but not after watching him struggle to get it installed. The insulation is super thick, which doesn't help you to line up the mounting screws through the holes, and then it takes a lot of effort to get it flush to the ceiling. Somehow he managed to rip off the insulation on the inside of the fixture while struggling to line things up so he had to use double-stick tape to put it back on. Reflective insulation was raining down on him. Next time, I'm going to read reviews before buying and will pick up something of better quality.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 3 months later... A little hard to install, but we loved the bright light and how diffused it was over the room. Then it started turning off. And on. And off...and on.... Threw it away and bought a better quality light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks nice! This light fixture looks great! However, it was a bear to install. After you screw the mounting bracket to the electrical box, you then have to slide the fixture and about 3 inches of insulation onto the mounting screws. The insulation has holes for this purpose, and it sounds easy enough, but the holes didn't seem to line up with the mounting screws and we couldn't get the screws to "punch" though the insulation. We could get one side in, but then not the other. We finally got it/forced it, but ended up with insulation dust all over us, including in our eyes. I would recommend that the manufacturer make those holes wider. Once installed though, it's beautiful! Note, this fixture is deep, dark brown and has no orange, brassy color showing through, like typical ORB.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Freaking awful!!!!! oh my gosh... what am I missing??????????????????????????????? Why is the insulation in this light 5 feet thick????????????????????????????? installing this light should have taken just a few minutes. I'm on hour two!!!!!!!! I'm having to take a break because my arms are so freaking tired. The top of the light has the expected insulation. However, the insulation is twice as thick as it needs to be. This makes installing this light a bloody nightmare. The concept is simple, guide the mounting screws through the holes in the insulation, through the slots in the base and turn. Yeah, in theory a child should be able to do this in seconds. First off, you can't see the freaking holes because your head can't get up close enough to the ceiling. Once you ++++think++++ the screws are in the holes, you have to look up and align the fixture with the screws. Inevitably the insulation gets all mucked up and you can't see the screw heads. After my 50th attempt to do this, the insulation is so torn up, I don't know if it is even possible any more. Honestly, I do not know if the depth of the insulation has to meet some code, but my gosh, it makes this a maddening chore. NO, I don't recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fairly difficult install This is a nice-looking, cheap fixture so I gave it a shot. Everything went well until I got to the getting the mounting screws through the thick fiberglass insulation. The insulation holes weren't exactly centered on the mounting holes, so I had to rip the insulation wide enough to find them. This might be cured if they put a real barrier/facing on both sides of the insulation instead of a micro-thin layer of aluminum foil on one side (literally 1/2 the thickness of the stuff you buy in the store. It ripped right off when I was ripping the insulation.) Now for the low price I don't expect miracles, but I would have gladly paid an extra dollar to have proper insulation facing on both sides. Other than that, it was a pretty typical install. And it is a pretty cheapie item, the "metal" is plastic but it looks ok when installed. Next time, I would probably go with a better quality fixture as this one mishap cost me about 15-20 mins of frustration (as the install location was in a small soffit over a base cabinet.) The fixture looks more realistic on the rep pic here than it does on the box. The box shows the glass as off-white, when it's actually straight white (with "alabaster" patterning.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprise feature I had an electrician install this piece. I had bought CFL bulbs to place in it. The CFL's do not dim. I was told that if I put regular bulbs in the light, I could use a regular flip light switch to dim the lights by switching the switch up and down within 2 seconds to change the brightness. So if you're looking for a light to dim and don't want to have to pay the extra money for the dimmer box, this is the way to go. The light looks great, modern, and stylish. Good quality.
