is top real copper?...not just painted copper

Please confirm top is "real" copper...tks Hampton Bay Model # 47022-001PC Internet # 202067489 Outdoor Antique Copper LED Solar Post Cap Light
Asked by: debbie
I have 10 of these copper posts which are made of a hard plastic material, and are not real copper as I also expected when the purchase was made. I have not found any product to help preserve the copper finish nor restore it after it becomes discolored.

what is typical cause of lighting to fail

my light only works for about an hour. I have had it for 3 years and it just started doing this. I have cleaned the solar panels and it still has not improved.
Asked by: prescottbob
I purchased multiple copper LED caps. ONLY the top of 2 turned black (of course they are discontinued) and after one season one will not light (on the post). If I remove it and replace batteries it works until I place it back on the post??? If I am lucky it will stay lit for 2 hours the first day. Good Luck. IF ANYONE has the answer t the lighting problem or how to clean the black off I would REALLY appreciate it.

my deck does not have posts ...only a railing. can I screw it directly to the rail

Asked by: 1234
Not directly as they do have a lip to overlap the posts. However if you were to screw 1 x 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" squares onto your rails where you plan to place them they will work very well.

Customer Reviews

Outdoor Antique Copper LED Solar Post Cap Light is rated 2.6 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from I woud reccommend to a friend BUT ADVISE!! The products (4) were ordered and shipped and received with no damage in a timely matter by Home Depot. The description of what of what it can be mounted to should be revised. It states a 6"x6" which dresses out at 5/12"x5/1/2". which is still a SHADE larger than for it to slip over. Post needed minor modification. After keeping off for 48 hours to charge batteries this is where the product has a mind of it's own!!! With the four (4) several on some days come on at dust some days while the other wait for pitch dark. Some shut off after running in darkness will stay off for a while then come back on. It' become a game. "Whose on 1st" . The style and design is what we desired and installed is what we wanted. It added the frosting to the area. If your looking for light and being uniform we would suggest another direct wired product and not this solar.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor quality I purchased 8 of these to top off a new deck finished for a family reunion. From the start, only 3 worked and all the instructions were followed to a T. I couldn't believe it! We messed around w/ them for a week--new batteries, turn off for 2 MORE days, and turn them on--and the 5 just wouldn't work. I called the help line this morning and am sending them back and ordering 5 new ones. I really like the looks of the lamp and hopefully, these new ones will work.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from solar post cap needs direct sunlight to charge. Does not stay charged for more than a couple of hours.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product is unreliable Bought 4 lights. Of the 4, one didn't work from the beginning, probably because batteries were already installed in light, whereas others had batteries in separate package. After one week, 2 of the remaining lights stopped working. I am now returning all 4 lights to the store and will look for alternative lights elsewhere.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap I didnt realize nor did I see in the description that the bottom was an ugly cheap looking beige plastic. By the looks of the picture I just assumed that the bottom was wood. Bummed because the price was good on them if they were wood.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Works Sometimes I am disappointed with the quality of this light. I ordered 2 of them and one no longer works at all. The other one works on and off.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worse Hampton Bay purchase ever We purchased 10 of the Copper 6x6 solar posts caps, which were costly, exceeding $20 each. They were easy to assemble, and illuminated a bright light for 4 to 6 hours in late evenings. The copper tone began to tarnish in less that 6 months, and the lights no longer work, although we have replaced the rechargeable batteries several times. The finish after less than a year is discolored with a black and rust like appearance. There is no cleaning agent to remove, or restore the caps to the original color. The Hampton label gives a no rust guarantee, which is misleading since the caps are made of a plastic and non -metal material. We have removed all of them from our deck and regret having expended such an amount of money on a product which offers no TRUE guarantee. Unless you want to splurge on a short timed satisfying item as these, we would not suggest you purchase them.
