I originally purchased the Hampton Bay 3 LED light set. Big mistake. Looked like some kid's toy & plastic too. My 3 LED pocket flashlight is brighter.
So I bought 3 of these. Yep, my friends thought I was nuts spending $120 plus tax on 3 solar lights. But let me tell you, these guys aren't kidding when they say its 230 times BRIGHTER than a cheap three dollar solar light.
This sucker has a big solar panel and takes 2 batteries, but its worth the ugliness because its on all night. Don't waste your time with any other solar light. Kind of pricey though but you get what you pay for. I love these and they are made out of alloy, not plastic.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by nobetta High output solar powered spot light, home depot SKU 256-091 (UPC 082392208486) Hampton Bay
This is the best solar spot light that was on the market. It works excellent and the quality of how it performs is out of the park. The problem is now Home Depot no longer has it. What does one have to do to ask you to put it back in your stores. The long power cord allows you to put the solar panel at the optimum position while the spot light can also be placed where you want it. The price for this unit was right on the money. I personally do not like the solar spot lights that have the "ugly" solar panel on top of the spot light, this impairs the beauty of where you want to put the spot light and distracts from the foliage that you are putting the spot in as well as detouring the ability to get the maximum sun / solar to charge the unit. The light that this unit produces is right on the money and lights up the area you want and them some. I wish they would try and find and bring this product back into your store. Thank you

At first, I was a bit surprised how expensive this 1 solar light is ($40) when I can buy 4 for the same price.
After a year of owning it - I'm OK with the price. First of all, I live in New York and my yard gets very little Northern sunlight (3 hours in the summer). It seems "day light" is all it needs. It charges during the day and it works (with bright light) from sunset until 1 am. I'm using it to illuminate a statue and it works really well. Secondly, and the main reason why I'm writing this review - I forgot this light outside all through out winter - nothing happened to it. Negative 10 degrees: no problem. It's like it's indestructible (hopefully forever :o).

Rated 5 out of 5Â by fatcat Still crazy bright
I bought another one. At $40 a pop they ain't cheap. So now I own 4 of these bad boys .
Since my last review Oct. 2011, they still are bright through two seasons of heat and cold rain. Only thing I do is spray Fantastic on the lense to get rid of the cobwebs and I sprayed out a brown spider living in one today.
I really can't believe after 2 seasons I didn't have to change the batteries. Of course the new one looks as bright as the 3 older ones.
Again, you pay for what you get. These are aluminum housing lights NOT PLASTIC and the bulbs are rated in watts, not milliwatts. The batteries are also lithium 3.2v
1000 mAh so they are powerful. Most cheap solar lights
run on 1.2v 600mAh. The higher the mAh the better and of course, the higher the voltage. Now you learned something.
Regardless, the brightness and construction outweigh the hassle of replacement batteries. Just don't place them anywhere a thief can steal them, like I said they are $40 each. Probably one of the best home improvement purchases I made so far. I can't say enough about them. Good luck and happy solar lighting!

Rated 4 out of 5Â by sheli3 Good bright spot for small area
I was happy that it wasnt made of plastic as is the case with many others. It has a good deal of light for a small spot. I would recommend it to someone looking to spot a small area. We have a "tree face" on a maple in our front yard. We use this spot at the bottom of the tree and shine it upwards. It works really well and all the neighborhood kids love the "tree man".
